Okay. The basis for this Earth, as it were, is basically this. In the year 2050 (in the year twenty-fifty!) an series of near apocalyptic events hit the earth. First, a strain of influenza originated in Asia, and swept through the world like wildfire, killing billions. In the chaos that followed, a radical survivalist group in the United States, having avoided the virus by sequestering themselves from society, siezed control of a nuclear missile silo, launching a strike at China. China, although hit hard by the influenza, was able to fire back, and a nuclear war began.
All this was a long time ago, and doesn't really play into the RP, except as general background. Essentially, humanity has started rebuilding. Though a lot of technology was lost due to EMP bombs employed by both sides during the nuclear war, there are still building blocks. What you can do here is pick a part of the world, and what the people there are doing at the moment, and play from there.
Oh, and for whatever reason, although most animals were hit almost as hard as humans by the virus, Australian native wildlife remained mostly untouched, as did horses, goats, elephants, mountain lions, and house cats.
The technology is going to be mostly primitive stuff, but with some things left over from before the nuclear war. While you aren't going to find something like an untouched nuclear missile silo, there well be some basic infrastructure left in a lot of smaller towns, plenty of rubble, and probably salvagable canned goods in cities, and probably some of the knowledge required to start building up again.
For myself, The Aesonic Tribes are a group of nomads who roam in the now almost empty American Midwest. They survive mostly by herding goats and horses, as well as occasionally raiding the settlements built by those unwilling to abandon city/town/village life.
I'll get a map up as soon as possible.
