The new F-14E air superiority fighter-interceptor is "ready" to enter production, says Head Engineer Obsidian Hawk. The fighter, the Imperial Air Force and Imperal Naval Aviation having ordered 1,600 and 800 each (to be called CN-14E in service), is a derivation of a license-sold design purchased from the now defunct American company Grumman. "It basically brings a reliable design into the 21st century." Hawk was quoted as saying.

When asked about recent developments in stealth aircraft, he said "The F-14E incorporates many stealth aspects, such as radar absorbing materials, "stealthy" intakes, and a new electronic coutnermeasures system.

"Basically, from a front angle, the aircraft is about sixty to eighty-percent as stealthy to a fighter-sized radar as the American F-22 or F-117A. Overall, though, our aircraft isn't designed around stealth. New radar designs, especially from Russia, are believed to be powerful enough to mitigate stealth to a significant degree. New Stealth fighters like the American Raptor or Russian PAK FA are fighters that will enter their prime in the 2030s. Our fighter is in its prime, and the only reason it's not is because of the American abandonment of the F-14 earlier this year."

CHANGES:

-New indigenous AIR-300 Radar capable of tracking fighter sized targets to 200 miles, bombers to about 250, and missiles to about 100
-Compatibile with the AAM-140 Neo Phoenix long-range missile, giving it a 120 mile "kill" zone AND the AIM-120 AMRAAM missile (for potential Western buyers)
-Updated "glass" cockpit relying on three multi-function displays for the pilot (four for the backseater) and incorporating emergency flight controls for the rear seater. "One of the major problems with the existing F-14D Super Tomcat is its archaic cockpit, relying on analog gauges." said Hawk.
-More efficient TenochtitlanTech turbofan engines increase top speed to Mach 2.51 at altitude and increase combat range to 1300km
-"Stealthy" radar absorbing-materials and redesigned edges give it some stealthy aspects at long ranges
-20mm Vulcan cannon replaced with 25mm Equalizer cannon
-Increased strike capability, giving it the ability to designate targets for laser-guided bombs or GPS-guided weaponry and drop them
-Thrust Vectoring System makes this huge fighter about as agile as the nimble F-16 despite being almost twice as heavy
-Fully carrier compatible (or for cold-weather NationStates with frozen airfields that use a wire trap system)

OOC: hmm..I once invisioned something like that..although it had canards, thrust-vectoring, and was called the F-14s/MTD Hellcat.
