Port City of Troan, Rennidan

~ The Angelo Santo sat just outside the port of Troan, the sun striking its metal surface, the reflections playing off of the waves lolling along the hull. 8 large ships surrounded the massive battlecruiser, two of them being aircraft carriers: the Raggio di Sole and the Calabrone. The other larger craft besides the battlecruiser and aircraft carriers were 3 destroyers and 2 frigates, but there was more than that.

15 transports were behind the protective semi-circle created by the larger ships, and inside those transports were all manners of infantry, armored divisions, artillery, and so on. Going through each of those divisions, one would encounter even more splits as the infantry went into sub-groups such as medics, communications, engineers, and so on, and even the armor branched into mobile hospitals, command centers, and transports. It was a diverse group, and it was created and shipped for one purpose: to train the men and women of Rennidan in the arts of war.

Admiral Bertrille Faccina, in the flagship the Angelo Santo, strode into the bridge of her warship. The crew were busy at work making sure the ship (and the entire fleet) was functioning, and at the sight of their commander, they practically jumped at her feet to see if there was anything they could do for her. Bertrille had worked hard to earn her position, had bested her male counterparts in every training and actual combat exercise, and had been given the honor to show her skills and talents to Nueve Italia's allies.

Staring out of the windows at the country before her, Bertrille could not help but surpress a small grin to finally be promoted the Admiral of her very own fleet. But first, she had to earn it in the combat exercises of the next few weeks. She took two steps towards a comm. officer and tapped him on the shoulder.

" Patch a transmission in to Troan," her voice dripped with a honey-like savoriness to it, but it was more reassuring and comforting than sexy, " and tell them the Nueve Italian training fleet has arrived. Request permission to make landfall and dock our ships."

The officer nodded and turned back to his controls, wiring the message out to the Rennidanian port. . "

Docking Agency, Port City of Troan, Rennidan

Police had had to be deployed on the docks, to aid the mass of writhing Rennidanian people trying to get a view of the war fleet on the coast. It wasn't a sight Rennidan was given every day. Rennidan Action News had already arrived to broadcast the arrival of Nueve Italia's forces, an event the public had be waiting for since it was announced. This was one of the first steps for Rennidan into a more prosperous nation, something which they had been waiting for centuries now.

Sat inside the Docking Agency of Troan’s ports was a tall, thin man, sat in a small office chair, hunched over last years transmission receiver/broadcaster. Listening intently to the message Nueve Italia had just broadcaster to his small station. With a satisfied grin, the man held down a small button and spoke into a microphone attached to his grey and somewhat warn out headphones.

“This is David Lentoff of Troan’s Docking Agency. You have full permission to dock in our ports. We have previously been advised to allow you to commence landfall. The town’s pubs are at your disposal as well, if you’re interested.” And with an audible giggle, he released the button and stood up to stare out the window, out at the large fleet of ships outside of his docks.

~ " Admiral Faccina!"

The communications officer had signaled his commander over and relayed the message he had just recieved from Mr. Lentoff. Bertrille nodded and asked him to give the order to start the docking process and to make sure to stay in contact with the Troan Docking Agency so everything went smoothly.

Several Hours Later. . .

It took some time, but eventually, the transports had landed and gotten the infantry off, and the larger ships had also let their crews go and stretch out around the city. Press and civilians were everywhere around the docks, trying to get a better glimpse of the foreign soldiers. Some entertained questions and engaged in conversation with the populace whilst others stood in straight, rigid lines, faces blank, ready to move on the signal of their commanding officer. Eventually, every division was given an "at ease," and the mood turned friendly even among the most hard-core of the soldiers.

What attracted most of the attention was one special group, however. Dressed in dark grey and forest green uniforms, they also donned black, hooded cloaks over their regular dress. They were the elite special forces of Nueve Italia: the Vestaglies Neres. They each had a royal blue scabbard strapped around their waist (the sword was a symbol that the soldier had completed the brutal training needed to be a Black Robe), and slung their R-22 rifles, unloaded, over their shoulders. Their leader, a charismatic man named Fidellio Solle, stood by chatting with some reporters and civilians. They merely had nothing else to do until the Troan or Rennidanian authorities gave them a designated land to either be housed or set up a camp. Until then, the soldiers enjoyed the only company outside of their untis they had had in weeks. . .~

Lord’s House, Rennidan City, Capital of Rennidan.

The large, adorned chair was glittered in silver and emeralds. The cloth a fine deep green. Upon the throne sat an older man, wrinkled skin and aged white hair, but he still appeared strong. He was Lord Tri Rennida, the head of both the dictatorship government and the nation’s holy leader. He had just received word that Nueve Italia’s forces had landed, a small smile upon his dry, cracked lips. Taking steady sips from the silver goblet beside his chair, he spoke to his messenger. His voice was strong, a powerful deep tone, the kind that suited the leader of a nation who had fought for his position.

“Give them the plains just outside of Troan to set up their camp. And… have the monks visit them. Have them tend to their needs, and have them help the troops where they can.”

A few hours later…

The masses of people mingling with the Nueve Italia soldiers brought a small smile upon Lev Rennida’s face. Son of the Lord, he was one of the heads of the monks within Rennida, and as such was also a powerful military leader. He was young, barely twenty, leading to the nickname of “General Baby-face.” Soft blond hair and muddy brown eyes, along with his untarnished skin surely gave him the look of an innocent child. Truth be told, his scars were on the inside. He had already completed two of the three Rituals of Ria, both Rass and Ruua. On his left hand he wore a silver ring with the Ria symbol carved on it’s outside, a symbol of completion of Ria. His other mark was upon his back, in the form of a dark green tattoo of the symbol of Ria, a sign of completing Ruua, the test of endurance. Still, he wore a smile as he arrived in Troan. His deep green robes covered his body, the collar circulating around the neck and covering his mouth and nose. Upon his back he had a staff, resting through his chest harness. The crowds begun to part as he reached the entrance to the sea-side town, leaving only the bewildered soldiers of Nueve Italia, wondering why the pleasant locals had suddenly left them to walk to the sides of the roads.
Following Lev were at least one hundred monks of Ria, each donning their ritualistic deep green robes. Many had shaven heads, over which green tribal tattoos sat. Most of them wore silver rings, like Lev’s; others wore headbands, a sign of completing the third ritual of Ria, Reem the test of knowledge.
With a soft voice, Lev spoke aloud, filling the parted masses.
“Nueve Italian soldiers. On behalf of Lord Rennida, leader of Rennidan and the Ria way, and my father, I welcome you to Rennidan.” The man made a fist, and pushed it against his other open hand, before bowing slightly. The mass of green monks behind him follow suite, bowing to their Nueve Italia allies.
“We have been told that you may make camp to the plains just on the border of this city. We will guide you there shortly. We have brought spare supplies, and are at your disposal to aid you with any needs you present to us.” With another smile and bow, Lev stood straight, the pin on his robes glaring in the sunlight, the very pin that declares himself as a General of the Rennidanian Army.

~ Major Fidellio Solle, one of the highest ranking officers of the Nueve Italian force in Rennidan (besides the top generals and Admiral Faccina herself), made his way to stand in front of Lev Rennida. He returned the bow (and his soldiers followed) and thanked him for the land and assistance.

" I don't believe we'll need anything else, thank you, however, we would like to extend to your military and even your civilians an invitation to some lectures we'll have in our camp tomorrow morning on military strategy and tactics. It will be divided into five separate categories, and we encourage you to spread the word."

Solle paused for a second and let Lev take in this information. He brushed his uncovered hand through his auburn hair, which was slicked back anyway. As he did, he realized that he would have to shave: on board one of the transports for the past few days, his goatee had grown a little thicker than he liked it. He would take care of that at the camp tonight, but for now, he continued.

" We'll be able to set up by ourselves, but we thank you once again for your hospitality. I don't believe I mentioned my name: I'm Major Fidellio Solle, eleventh division of the Vestaglies Neres, also known as the White Eyes. Admiral Bertrille Faccina is the overall commander of our forces here, so direct anything of major importance to her, please. The courses I mentioned earlier will be held from seven in the morning to one in the afternoon. Thank you once again."

He bowed once again to Lev Rennida, turned to his men, and explained where their camp would be. He then spoke into a small comlink on his uniform collar to Admiral Faccina, telling her where the camp was supposed to be. The Nueve Italians then bowed and thanked their hosts profusely and left Troan to the campsite.

Next morning. . .

The Nueve Italian camp had been constructed using quick all-weather tents, mobile command vehicles, and other structures that had been built quickly out of parts that had been pre-made, broken down, and shipped with the troops. It looked almost like an army barracks, but with a much greater bustle of activity. Nueve Italian soldiers, Rennidanian soldiers and military leaders, and civilians as well walked around the camp, most of them heading towards the lectures that Solle had promoted.

Blurbs from the military lecutres:

Infantry strategy with Captain Carlos Jiño

" Infantry are the most versatile unit any force can deploy: they fill every and any niche."

" The basic infantryman is essential to warfare: he scouts areas, captures key points on the battlefield, and is the bulk of your force."

" Infantry are the cheapest and easiest to equip for battle, and their gear can be constantly changed to suit the changing battlefield."

" Do not underestimate the power of a squad of soldiers: they can destroy vehicles, buildings, and, with the proper equipment and position, decimate enemy forces."

" Remember the four F's of combat in infantry versus infantry engagements: Find, Fix, Flank, and Finish your enemy."

Mechanized strategy with Tank Commander Alessandro Viele

" The days of the heavy tank are over: speed is the most important attribute of any vehicle in war."

" You are not invincible in a vehicle: the lowliest soldier with a rocket propelled grenade can kill you and your crewmates if he sees you first."

" Vehicles are the fastest way to transport infantry across the battlefield: they need some type of transportation or they'll never get to their destination on time."

" Tanks should always be backed up with infantry to scout positions and eliminate sappers and anti-vehicle troopers."

" Vehicles are extremely hard to use in urban combat areas: use them only when there is an advantage to having them deployed."

Naval strategy with Captain Franco Greggili

" Use range to your advantage: try and stay as far away from the enemy as possible and pound them from afar."

" Using countless missiles on your enemy wastes your ammo and your country's defense budget: attack only when you will succeed."

" Air power must back up your ships, or you will lose them."

" Always, always be on the lookout for enemy submarines: if you don't have countermeasures against them, they can decimate your entire fleet."

Aerial combat strategy with Colonel Seraphino DeLucia

" Know why it's called dogfighting? Because in the old days of biplanes, aerial combat looked like two dogs trying to get eachother's tails. Do the same thing: do whatever it takes to get on your opponent's six o'clock."

" Learn your enemy's plane inside and out: know its top speed, climb rate, dive rate, turn rate, and armament. This will save your life."

" On the other hand, also know absolutely everything about your own fighter."

" Use what your plane does best to your advantage. If you can dive upon an opponent faster than they can dive, get above them and come down on them."

" Don't fight the enemy's fight: if they have a higher turn rate then you, do not get locked in a spiral against them: they will out-turn you and shoot you down."

" Learn every defensive manuever in the book: es-turns, immelmans, pirouettes, everything. They will save you."

Finally, overall Military Strategy with Admiral Bertrille Faccina

" Keep your army well equipped and stocked: without supplies, you will fall apart. Remember, an army marches on its stomach."

" Do not diversify your equipment: keep your infantry using only variations of one rifle, your tanks variations of one main model, and so on. Creating different weapons to fill one niche makes it hard for your troops to learn to use them all, and it's harder to supply ammo for five different rifles than it is to supply for only one rifle."

" Combine all the branches of your military to assist eachother in a strike: Use infantry to support tanks by taking out vehicular threats, tanks to support your air force by removing SAM batteries, your air force to support your infantry by bombing pillboxes and bunkers, and so on."

" Soldiers have morale: keep this in mind. If their morale drops, they will flee from battles, arrive late to key sites, and lose the war overall. Keep troops well stocked with supplies, do not force the same units to keep moving and attacking or they'll get tired, and don't attack when you are not able to to keep morale up."

The lectures went on like this for some time, and many dropped by to hear these words of wisdom and comment upon them . . .~
