OOC: Given my failure to really "take off" in the FT world I've decided to revert back to RPing in the MT areas, hopefully this spurs some sort of revitalization in my participation on NS. I will take the opportunity to announce that I am looking to join an established alliance. I'm going to RP this as if my attempts at developing a feasable interstellar spaceship had failed miserable.
IC: "So that's it?" Says the President to his scientific advisers. "You're just giving up on this whole project? What about the taxpayers? They paid billions into your research and they want results, you can't just give up now."
Dr. Reinhardt chooses to speak on behalf of the group after several seconds of silence. "After 25 years of research we've concluded that space travel is not feasable, and even if it were, you can ask any economist and they will tell you that it would require massive investments that would never pay off. We've already accepted this fact and as you probably read in our report we are advising that you follow the same course of action."
The President takes a minute to think this over, the finest scientific minds in the Dominion were telling him that this was impossible, yet just 30 years ago in graduate school the whole community was buzzing that space travel would become a reality in a decade. All the theoretical physics at the time said space travel was possible and that it would be the greatest change in the history of the world. Today that door would be shut, funding for these programs would be slashed, and of course the Dominion now had to pay to upgrade the armed forces, something which had been shelved 15 years ago when it appeared that advances in space travel would make ground warfare obsolete. The Air Force wasn't in such a tough position, since they controlled how money meant for the space programs was spent they had been constantly taking some of the money to feed their own needs. "Alright gentlemen, you are dismissed." was all the President said.
After the scientists had left James got on the phone and called his Secretary of State, once he finally got a hold of her James told Secretary of State Summers to petition for the Dominion's admission into several difference alliances immediately. The President would have to announce the cancellation of the space program within a couple months, possibly weeks, and he wanted some allies lined up because the military had been severely short on funds for the last couple of decades and for a nation as large and populous as the Dominion it was dangerously low on manpower at this time.
