2025, America is a very different place. The war in the Middle-East spread like a wild fire, consuming all into the flames of war. The war lasted for five years, the US suffered an economic depression which drove the country to pieces. During the turmoil of war, protests, and depression, The New Republican Party emerged. They spoke of an end to the war, they promised that the economy would improve and all the problems that plagued the US would all disappear with their help. So, 2021 Joseph Stark was elected President in a sweeping victory. The brutal war ended when Tehran was emerged in nuclear light, gone from the Earth. The price for peace was the loss of basic citizen rights in the US. They promise security for a price. At the time, a price many were willing to pay. A new age emerged from the old as it crumbled into the past. The citizens live under the omnipresent gaze of the government and any opposition leads to reprival. Some see the government for what it is and fight for freedom, though the price is great and the danger is great. Betrayal, intrigue, love, can the few stand up to the powerful? Will America be free again? At what price?

History: Johnny as his close friends know him works as a reporter for the Washington Times. He always loved to write and has a deep sense of wanting to help. He's writen several stories criticizing the government which has brought him trouble in the past. However, he continues to try and shed light on the totalitarian regime of President Stark. Life is still difficult. His mother was a political activist and she disappeared when he was younger, his father was never there for him to begin with. He was in a long term relationship with Hollie Ryan, whom he promised to marry. However, they disappeared from each other lives. It caused him great grief to find out what happened to her. Now he's a cynical drunk who is trying to piece his broken life back together.

History: Hollie came from a well-off family in Maryland. her parents were ardent supporters of the New Alliance Party. She always did well in school and is very beautiful. She dated Johnny for several years until something tragic occured between the two, a day which is seared in both their lives. She wanted to become an artist but abandoned it and persued a career with the party. After a few years of brainwashing and fervor she has turned into an ardent supporter. She now commits herself to the party and will do anything to preserve what she believes is the right way.

Thanks for showing interest. My intentions for this rp is to shed light on both sides of the conflict but my two characters aren't major players in the big picture, just every day people who chose different paths.

Well, I'm stuck on base with too much time on my hands and nothing to do. We'll see...

Perhaps you can give more description about your character, physical description, her history, just a little more elaboration.

Saffron was born to a single mother, she had to scrape a living from doing odd jobs around the village, her mother died from a ruthless murder at the age of 5, she was then orphaned, she went to the local youth hostel and lived there for 10 years where she managed to accumulate funds for writing equipment. She then started writing poems for rich couples who scoured the shops, she worked all day. No rest, she fell in love with a man who lead her to believe he was the love of her life when all he wanted was sex; she could no afford contraception - so she fell pregnant at the age of 15.

Her child is now in school thanks to her shock discovery by a publisher who noticed her stunning hidden looks and her gutsiness to her little job.

She now lives in an apartment in Queens, has a vintage mustang and a cat - her daughter is doing well in her education and is showing an extreme interest in architecture.

History: Young Aayan was the grandson of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who many Muslims saw and still consider today, to have been a great man and leader. But with the destruction of his country and his family, young Aayan’s life was changed in an instant. The former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his family fell victim to the destruction of Iran, but Aayan was the only survivor and was scarred for it, hence his eye he lost that he covers with his turban. He now has nothing to live for but revenge for his people and family. He has taken a vow that he will not rest, even in death, until Joseph Stark has paid for his crimes… In his blood.

Will the Senate still exist, also, I know that I am one of the younger RPers on this site, but I would still like to be involved, and possibly able to RP as Joesph Sparks as well as his son, so that I may write some intimate father-son scenes, a clash of the new: George Washington, and the old, John, whom I would portray as a man in love with his country, believing it to be in its second act, I would not make him very powerhungry, just an idealist who believes that his actions were justified to preserve the Republic. He would feel a victim of destiny, and would likely quote much from the classics to his son, who he taught everything that he new.

History: George Washington Starks, born son of John Starks, is a young senator from Vermont. Originally a smalltime politician in the Free State party, he joined the New Republican party in its early days, back when it was a single issue party, soley focused on the end of the war. When he ran for Senate in the predominantly libertarian Vermont (Free State), he won against independent Bernie Sanders, in a tight victory, with many claims of voter fraud coming from the Sanders camp. When he joined the Senate, he voted for small government, however, when his father, who funded much of his campaign, threatened to take away his support, he began to vote in line with the rest of the New Republican Party. As the years went on, George increasingly became disgusted with himself, turning to pain medications, alchohol, and other drugs to help him deal with his self-disappointment. Once, after taking a number of different pain medications, Starks attempted to commit suicide, by slitting his wrists, however, the story was withheld from the press, and they were told that he was in the hospital for fall on the stairs. He stuck with the New Republican platforms however, becoming known to the media as a bellwether of the New Republican views on issues, mainly the view of the elder Starks. Starks stuck with these views until on fateful day in Senate open hearings, he mounted a lone filibuster crusade against a bill that would allow the torture of criminals, suspected terrorists, and illegal immigrants without the warrent required by the current laws. He appealed to those watching the hearings, calling on them to remember the days of freedom, of speech, of assembly and of religion. He reminded the of the right to a fair trial, and to basic human rights. He read the Preamble to the Senate, the Declaration of Independence, and the writings of Martin Luther King, Ghandi and Jefferson. After this, all Senate hearings became closed, and Starks quickly began to distance himself from the New Republican Party.

History: Miguel Fonseca Peralta was born in Porlamar, Estado Nueva Esparta, Venezuela. At first glance, he wasn't that bad off; his family was fairly well-off, running a somewhat lucrative shop that was popular with tourists. He was never faced with famine, could read and write...whatever.
But...there were problems. Domingo Fonseca Castro and Luz Peralta Davíla, his "parents," were in fact his grandparents. His mother was his "sister," Pilar, who had been raped by Miguel's biological father at 14 and had him. As a result, he was alienated from his family, and hopped on a boat bound for La Guaira at age 13. From there, he ended up in Caracas, living out of various motels and rolling with a street gang, until he was arrested six months later.
After this, he turned his life around: he actually went to school and ended up in college. After he graduated, he got a job as a reporter with Amnesty International, and was sent to a funny place:
Los Estados Unidos de America.
Of course, when the government found out who Miguel was with about a year later, he was almost killed. But, the Secret Police were sloppy, and on the edge of death he dug himself out of the ditch they dumped his "corpse" in about five minutes after they had driven off.
No government hospital would treat his gaping bullet wound ("You're just a wetback trying to take advantage of Medicaid!" Pffft. Like Mexicans came into the US anymore?). However, some people did treat him. Resistance people did. And it will be a cold day in hell before Miguel Ernesto Salvador Fonseca Peralta doesn't pay off his debts.
He now operates in a city with the Resistance, churning out Resistance leaflets, harboring political opponents, occasional attacks on the police and military, that kind of thing. However, he does his best to appear as nothing more than a normal citizen, a normal citizen named "Ismael Trejo." And it's worked so far...

We need more round characters, my fellow writers come hither!

The rise of the New Republican Party corresponded with her middle and high school education years, and like many younger people of the time, Sam questioned authority in private, realizing from her studies of the American times before of the 20th century when rights had been open and the peopel happy and free. After she left home to attend Georgetown University at age 18, Sam began to hear rumors of an underground resistance movement against the American establishment. Delving deeper, while using her cover as a student in D.C. to keep her profile hidden from probing governmental eyes, Sam entered the outer circles of the Resistance, though kept her support of the group in secret with the city, and university, ripe with the eyes and ears of the government.

History: A childhood friend of Johnny. William was always a rebellious type when he was younger. During his high years he kept on coming less and less rebellious. After getting out of college he started to write military fiction and watched over Johnny. He knew Hollie and that Johnny was going to ask to marry her, but he also loved her. William never had enough courage to tell her and thought it would ruin the friendships between him and Johnny. Once Hollie disappeared he had enough of this regime. So he joined a Resistance and vowed to topple Joseph Stark's regime.

:confused: How is politics scary, it is much less scary than war, and fighting, and more can be accomplished, both in real life, and (I hope) in the Nationstates world, I am not sure about the latter, as I have only been here a month. I am all for the occasional bloodletting story, jsut look at my history in progress, but I also think that people on this site, mostly the newcomers like myself, focus too much on the war aspect of this and less on the diplomatics, commerical, and political potentials of this site. Of all the "big time" RPers that I have seen, they are war hawks, with so much technical military jargon that I cannot understand.

Well, my character's not really part of the resistance. He's someone who's lost his way and is trying to piece his life back together. I could rp as another political guy if needed.

History: After becoming the youngest senator in history Kal Kilgannon quickly rose up the ranks and was seen as the next in line for the presidency of the country but something went wrong, although he holds great power now he is under watch constantly by the Presidents men

As a child Kal always wanted to make the world a better place and gained a reputation for gaining info from both sides no matter what project he was doing...and even now in his mid 30's he hasnt changed, he is gathering intel on the new republicans and the resistance but to what end and what purpose

the military once ired him as an analyst but they were surprised by his all round skills in weapons and intelligence..a vaulable asset and a dangerous one also

he has managed to keep himself safe and untouchable but that cannot last forever...and it seems time is running out
