Hey, Im kind of new to this, but I have played before a while back.

I want to set-up and RP a fantasy type nation or similar, and would very much like some help from any players in this area if possible.

Any help appreciated and thanked for in advance.

If you're looking for a pure fantasy tech nation(in a fantasy world), it might be best to rethink a bit as there are very few nations that fit that catagory for you to rp with.
Also, how do you intend to define fantasy(D&D type, warcraft type, alt-history type(where magic replaces science, ie: Jinnetic engineering in stead of genetic engineering)?

Basically a bit more information on your intentions is needed before help can be effectively given.

Well I was thinking something more character based (although not necessarily character roleplay) than all out wars with your typical air and land warfare (neglecting the sea battles) between nations. For me thats a bit more than boring. Id like something away from the real world, perhaps like you said more magic than science. I wouldnt like to follow the lines of D&D or similar things like Warcraft. Alt-history would also be too much like all out war really, in my experience anyway.

Does that help at all?

Then why not pick(or if you're feeling ambitious, create) a race and give them some defining characteristics. Then maybe an invitation to a ball/party by the head of your nation to leaders/notables from other nations.

Perhaps magic only works in your nation(and the immediate outside environs) while technology not working except in the immediate outside environs which could lead to interesting developments at/getting to the ball. It would also make war much harder until someone came up with some way to breach the 'bubble' (but also curtail your ability to wage war).

Hope the suggestion helps.

I've never seen any reason for tech level to be an impediment to interaction. Over the years have successfully worked with modern, future, fantasy, and everything in between. It's really not that difficult even for a nationstate consisting of magical anarchist space elves, among other things.

If you're looking for war roleplays, then you might have trouble finding partners to work with outside of the futuristic space setting. There aren't too many pure fantasy nations out there who like to get involved in pointless wars.

If you're looking for character oriented roleplays, which does not exclude the possibility of armed conflict, then you can be anything you want to be. Case in point is my [limited] involvement in a conflict that has participants ranging in technology from the 1950s to far, far future.

I'd suggest regardless of the issue to go with what you feel you'd enjoy playing most. There are always interested parties out there, and in the case of character-oriented roleplay tech level tends to matter very little as long as it's not abused.
