Reorganizing the Military (Earth II)

Fredrick Bulov read over the reports of their 'military', a group of over 2,000 Freedom Fighters, he knew that this would not be enough, they would need at least 100,000 to properly defend their borders even marginally, he thought for a moment before getting an idea in his mind, a way to quickly raise a standing army of at least 100,000 Troops quickly, he would issue a speech to talk with the masses and pursuade them that inorder to have total peace within their nation they would have to have a standing army worthy of defending their borders.

He would also have to get new weapons soon, most of their's was surplus from the fall of the former Soviet Union, AK-47's and the like was what their military used, Perhaps in time they could be able to manufacture their own weapons more efficently...

He began writing his speech and prepared to use his Communications Link to connect with the Trenskian Local Television station and broadcast his speech, about two hours later he finished and opened up the link and nodded to the small screen upon his desk, a small video camera was brodcasting his image on the local television and bringing his voice to the people.

"My fellow Trenskians, it has been brought to my attention the staus of our Military Forces and we should be ashamed of ourselves at it's state and frightened, only 2 thousand brave souls from the Liberation Movement comprise the Armed Forces of Trensk, thus, we are vulnerable to outside forces who would take our newfound freedom from us and twist us and make us as we where before.

While gallant our brave Liberation Force is, they still do not stand a chance against a modern army, thereofore, i call upon Trenskians who have dreamt of protecting their loved ones, their country and faith to rise up and take a stand with our forces and protect your wives, children, brothers, sisters and all family and friends from those who would seek to harm them and us...

Let the world know that we shall not be pushed and subjected, but we shall bring them a message that we will not stand for it and protect ourselves in any way we can.

Thank you for your efforts and time my fellow countrymen." With that the screen went from it's Broadcasting Blue to black, signalling to him that it was over and he relaxed in his chair...As he watched as the screen light up to a Screen detailing what Forces he had at his command, surely and steadily they slowly started to rise...Soon he would have the military strength to back up his promises to protect Transk...All he needed now was time...

"Tanker om den Trenskianske opprustningen?" [Thoughts on the Trenskian military buildup?] The man sitting at the end of the large conference table in the building overlooking downtown Oslo asked, folding his hands in anticipation of the answer.

"Det ser helt legitimt ut. Våre kilder rapporterer om en stående styrke på to tusen dårlig trente og utrustede geriljasoldater. Det at de har som hensikt å øke styrken med cirka hundre tusen ser vi på som uproblematisk. Det er Trenskianernes rett til å ha en relativt stor stående styrke for å forsvare landet sitt. Dessuten så kan våre styrker likevel knuse Trenskianerne relativt enkelt dersom det skulle bli nødvendig." [It looks like a completely legitimate course of action. Our sources report a standing force of roughly two thousand poorly trained and equipped guerillas. The fact that they're intending to increase the force by an estimated hundred thousand is considered to be completely unproblematic. It is the right of the Trenskians to have a relatively large standing force to defend their nation. Besides, our forces can still crush the Trenskians relatively easily, should that become a necessety.] One of the other men replied in a casual tone. He was the head of the newly established Trensk Section in the 10. Department's Baltic Office, the small six-man unit within the clandestine military intelligence agency FO/E that was responsible for collecting information and producing analysis' on the new nation.

"Okay. Så vi skal ikke se med uro på denne utviklingen?" [Okay. So we aren't to look at this development with concern?]

"Nei. Vi burde faktisk tilby å forsyne Trensk med våpen og trening, slik at vi øker vår innflytelse i Trensk, samt at vi har en bedre oversikt over deres militære kapasitet. Hvem vet, kanskje det kan bli nyttig en dag?" [No. In fact, we should offer to supply Trensk with arms and training, thus increasing our influence in Trensk, as well as giving us a better image of their military capabilities. Who knows? Perhaps it could be useful some day.]

The next day, an encrypted satellite communication was issued to the Trensk head of state from the Cottish Defense Ministry.

Re: Military Assistance

Dear sir,

I am referring to the communique of 3.12.06 in which you were open to the prospect of military cooperation between the Realm and the Trensk Empire. The Realm has noticed your intent in upgrading your military, and we would like to offer our assistance in doing so. We can offer you many modern, state-of-the-art weapons of war, logistical support, and what's more important than that, modern training for your armed forces.

Should you chose to accept entering further talks in this subject, we will send a representative from His Majesty's Government to Tallinn.

Respectfully,

Open Communique to The Trensk Empire

We are thrilled at the prospect of a new neighbor and are more than willing to assist in helping your developing nation with building a modern Military capable of defending your territory. We have several Military Industries within the Borders of Hawdawg that can supply you with small arms, munitions, etc. We also have a fleet of slightly used, but fully functional Naval Vessels we would be willing to donate to your cause for a small fee. I have talked to the DoD and they are willing to send Military attachee's to assist your upstart Defensive Team in this building process, should you request it. We look forward to building a substaintal trading business with your Empire.

A few days later, a V-17/A Gulfstream landed at Tallinn airport, carrying representatives from the Defense Ministry. A total of twp civilians and two military officers, both ranked Lieutenant Colonel, stepped off and approached the Trensk welcoming comittee.

"Sir, I am Terje Engels, senior advisor to the Defense Minister. Minister Alvheim regrets that he was unable to attend himself, but I assure you that I have been given authorization to act in his stead. Allow me to introduce my associates. This is my assistant Line Romøren," Engels said, motioning towards a beautiful twentyish year old blonde-haired woman dressed in a smart business suit, "And my two military advisors, Lieutenant Colonels Harald Sætre and Ulf Pedersen." Motioning towards the two officers. One was dressed in the green uniform of the Royal Cottish Army, while the second one was dressed in the light blue of the Royal Cottish Air Force. Both had a number of decorations on their chests, indicating lengthy service and combat experience.

Engels waited to hear from the Trensk representative.

The Transkian greeters consisted of Commander Holtz, a former German who immigrated to Estonia 4 years ago, he was a man with white starting to show at the tips of his blonde hair and a set of Ice-Blue eyes that seemed to peirce the soul of the other man, he wore a Uniform that seemed almost like the German WWII Uniform, however there where some differences, instead of Green it was black and had the Trenskian Insignia which consisted of 2 Eagles with their wings spead and a Bayonet separating them from one another, there where 2 others with him, a Diplomat by the name of Joseph Urial who wore a buisness suit, he was middle-aged and had brown eyes and charcoal coloured hair, he casually nodded and gave a welcoming smile.

The third member was a man in a Uniform standing behind Holtz wearing a similar uniform, only he had Captain Bars instead of a Commander's Insignia, in one hand he held a briefcase with Documents that would be required most likely and a stern expression, showing that he would do his duty if anyone tried to harm the Diplomat or the Commander.

Cold winds pushed against them while Transkian Defence Force Troops patrolled the perimeter for any threats with AK-47's, there was a snow-storm comming in which would ice the runways unfortunatly...

Having being used to the cold weather Holtz gave them a welcoming smile and put out his hand for a shake.

"Welcome to Transk, i am Commander Holtz, King Bulovs Cheif of Staff, the stern man behind me is Captain Arnold Trent and the suited man who looks like a blood-sucking lawyer is Joseph Urial which." He cast a smirk towards Urial who kept his calm and nodded to the guests.

"Welcome to Transk, i am here to be the Voice and Eyes of the King while your visiting, i am to also handle the paperwork and report to the King once our buisness is concluded here, i believe that we should be going now, we are going to go to Castle Blatz which is just outside the city, it is a Castle which serves as a Winter retreat for the King and Government officials."

A Limo was parked just outside the airport with 2 Black BMW Cars with the Licence Plate designating they where Government Cars, the driver tugged at his gloves while waiting for the Diplomats and Military men to do whatever it was that they do and get to the car...

The Department of Defense wasted little time in sending an attachee' to broker an arms deal with the Transkian Government. Rear Admiral Thomas Kincade sat comfortably in the small unmarked Government Jet as it touched down at the Tallinn Airport. After he disembarked the plane, Kincade noticed a handful of men walking towards his security team. He mumbled an "It's okay." to the men and they moved behind the Rear Admiral.

Kincade: "Ah, you must be my greeting party? I am Rear Admiral Thomas Kincade and I am charged with full powers by Prime Minister Gordon Wells to assist your glorious nation in building a modern military force."

Leman Frelandz waited patiently for the Hawdawgian Ambassador to land, when they finally did and got out of their plane he as well as two escorts walked towards them, Leman was dressed in a standard uniform, his Commander's bars showing on his shoulders proudly.

He nodded to the man and saluted.

"Good day, i am Commander Leman Frelandz, Commanding the 2nd Treskian Infantry Division and advisor to the King, shall we get to work and skip the formalities? I am sure that we are both extremely busy and want to do this fast yet right."

Leman was a serious soldier, a verteran of the Revolution who had led hundreds into battle with the old regime and come out victorious through tactics and good planning...

After the drive to the Castle Blatz, the Cottish delegation followed the Trensk inside and ended up at a conference table somewhere inside the castle. After pulling out a few laptops and a number of dossiers, the leader of the Cottish delegation, Engels, spoke.

"Esteemed hosts. We have been sent here by our Government with a clear mandate: To assist the Trensk Empire in transforming itself from being a poorly defended state to becoming more than capable of defending itself. We intend to do just that, but first we require to know what the Trensk longterm military objectives are, what kinds of doctrines you intend to employ for your forces, et cetera."

With that, Engels sat down and listened carefully to what Commander Holtz had to say.
Soviet Trasa
07-12-2006, 03:16
Commander Holtz nodded and folded his hands on the table as he leaned over slightly.

"The Army will be Defensive, we will unlikely be drawn into a conflict outside out borders unless our security is threatened or an Ally calls or aid, our soldiers are quite fond of surgical strikes and hit-and-fade tactics and have grown quite efficent at them, we will also need to know how to construct excellent defenses like for example Bunkers and Tenches in a hurry" He took a small breath before continuing "Also, when we go into battle we like to get all the facts of the opposite forces and the layout of where we expect to fight first as quickly as possible, that is all i can really say about that."
Cotland
07-12-2006, 03:33
So in short, you won't be depending on massive armies of tanks but rather infantry, which is more efficient in securing borders than a tank is. Well, we believe we can be of assistance there. We can offer you a full sortement of small-arms for your infantry forces, ranging from assault rifles and machine guns via personal defense weapons and submachine guns to light anti-tank missiles and landmines." Engels said enthusiastically. "Naturally, this will cost a little, but I'm sure we can sort something out. Additionally, you will require an air force. You are lucky, as we have just what you need to ensure your national sovereignty."

With that, Engels' assistant pulled out one of the dossiers and handed it over to Commander Holtz so he could see.

Holtz again looked over the dossier of the Anti-Tank weapon and looked at the other man calmly.

"If i may ask a question, how thick armour can one of these weapons peirce before it is ineffective?"

He was impressed sofar from the weapons that have been shown to him already, but he was a careful man, he wanted to know how effective these weapons where before actually taking them into combat to defend Trensk.
Cotland
09-12-2006, 22:53
"As it says in the dossier, the armor penetration depends on the warhead used, they are fully effective in damaging or destroying the target as long as they can penetrate the armor. As you can see, the HEAT and HEDP rockets can penetrate both explosive reaction armor and a substantial amount of armor. I don't remember the precise amount of armor, but it is all in there. RHAe means rolled homogenous armor equivalent, but I'm sure you already know that, being a military man and all." Engels said.

"Outstanding," Engels concluded, having the aide write it up. The two Cottish military officers sat on the sideline, observing the situation. While they were here to provide technical insight in case the Trenskians required it when it came to the weapons being offered, that was only part of their task. Both men were secretly attached to FO/E, the Cottish Military Intelligence Agency, and tasked with observing how the Trenskians handled the offers made, numbers of weapons requested and how they generally behaved towards others.

Meanwhile, Engels got a note from the aide, and glanced at it. He looked at Commander Holtz and said, "Well, we've got the price for the equipment you wish. from what my assistant has figured out, your requested material costs a total of three point eight seven zero seven billion universal standard dollars. I am aware of the economical situation in Trensk, and as such I have been authorized to give you a small discount by the Defense Ministry. Therefore, I am willing to offer the equipment to you for the nice and round sum of three point five billion. A small price to pay for the safety of your nation, don't you think?"

"Excellent," Engels said, smiling. He would get a hefty bonus from the Defense Ministry for pulling off this deal so quickly. "I am glad that I could be of service to provide Trensk with adequate means of self-defense."

At this point, Lieutenant Colonel Ulf Pedersen from the Royal Cottish Air Force spoke up, moving into the next set of negotiations.

"Sir, it is my understanding that the nation of Trensk is pretty much without confirmed allies in this world, and that this can be a very dangerous condition to be in. For this reason, I have been asked by my superiors to convey an offer of an non-aggression pact to be signed between the Realm and Trensk. Such a pact is considered by the Realm to be the precursor for a more solid alliance, and a sollution that will make potential enemies of Trensk think twice before conducting any actions against Trensk."

The man spoke like a diplomat rather than a soldier, but that was part of his job, being an intelligence officer. Now he just waited for the Trensk Commander to reply.

Commander Frelandz stepped into the car with the Hawdawgian Rear Admiral and the car started towards Truth Square, which was located near the City Hall where they would be conducting their buisness.

"We are going to heading to Truth Square, the location of the final battle between Rebel and Local Forces and where we claimed victory, it is quite well guarded and we shall be safe from outside interference."

The square was busy with activity, people bundled up in winter clothing rushed about to conduct their buisness, patrols of 7 men actively searched the area for anything suspicious and to the far side a pair of citizens where being questioned and their ID Passcards being checked, the square was infront of a large building, which looked like it was built in the late 18th century, about 6 Stories high and made from stone, Frelandz stepped out of the car and held the door open for the Rear Admiral.

"Welcome to the City Hall, we will talk easy within it's walls."

Holtz raised an eyebrow, a Non-Aggression Pact this early in their relationship? Prelude to possible alliance?

What was this other man up to he wondered...

He merely smiled and shrugged his shoulders, his appearance gave off the look of a cheerful and carefree man, but that was his disguise so he could read the stance of the other man without fear of being...Rude.

"The Non-Aggression pact sounds quite pleasing, but i wonder why form an Alliance with us when all the troubles in the world lie further south, you would have had better logistics forming an Alliance with one of the nations involved there, if i might ask, why us Treskians? We are smalltime compared to a nation like for example Hawdawg or North Germania."

Very well Commander, I have been authorized to sell several hull designs I think your country would be most interested in. Shall we have a seat, I will get my schematics out.

The Rear Admiral sat down and began to pull documents from his briefcase.

The officer merely smiled as he answered the Treskian commander's question.

"As I'm sure you're aware, the Realm is already allied with the Holy Republic of Hawdawg, the Fourth Reich of North Germania, the Insurmountable Empire of Layarteb, the Armed Republic of Soviet Bloc and the Commonwealth of Hirgizstan through the October Alliance, the most powerful alliance on the planet. Still, the Realm is committed to peace, and wishes to gain as many friends as it can in the belief that if we're already friends, we cannot be enemies. We have many treaties and non-aggression pacts with other nation states in the world, and we feel that given the recent trade negotiations between our nations, that a non-aggression pact is an appropriate course of action. Surely you have no plans to attack the Realm, do you?"

The officer didn't mention that the reason the Realm didn't offer a mutual defense pact at this time was that the Trensk military was ill-prepared for combat operations, and that the Cottish political leadership wanted to see how the new nation behaved in the world before offering to expand the treaty. He didn't mention that this offer was a test for the Trensk either. If they accepted, the Trensk had taken a huge step in the process of being trusted by the Realm. Likewise, if they denied, they would be percieved as a potential threat and dealt with accordingly, should they turn hostile.

Holtz thought for a moment before nodding.

"At this time we can agree to a Non-Aggression Pact, however an Alliance will require time, i only have the authority to form minor Pacts with other nations, a full Alliance would require the King's presence, but he is a busy man, trying to get this country back on it's feet and restore all the industry that was damaged during the Revolution, however i will bring the possability of such an Alliance to his attention, the nation of Trensk would only attack if the integrity of the Empire was at risk of invasion from outside forces or some other threat, however that is only if we are absolutely sure of such a threat and have proof, so fear not, we know the Realm has no ill-will against us fornow, i am merely required to ask those questions on the King's behalf."
