Live from Gholgoth: DEATHMATCH

Pictures of warfare come over the airwaves, which is nothing new. What is new is that the feed says 'Live from Gholgoth'.

A fireteam advances through the woods and opens up on an enemy, who is in a humvee type vehicle, machine gunner on top returning fire. As the camera pans out, it becomes clear that this is a convoy under attack.

One vehicle is captured bythe attackers, who are revealed to be even more numbers than seen a few moments ago. The driver is shot dead and dumped nto the roadway as the five ton truck takes a side road and vanishes into the woods.

The camera rises up to about five hundred feet. Obviously it has to be on an unmanned drone being controlled from elsewhere. It slowly spins and gives a view of a beachline, a ship offshore painted it white and bright green and zooms in on the emblem on it's side.

A female voice comes over the feed. "What you are witnessing is Deathmatch. A mix of Roman arena matches, paintball, wargames and mercenary work. Three islands are part of the Death's Door chain of four islands. One is for vehicle combat, including beach landings. One is for small unit combat. The third is from a mix of the two and any other type of combat that can be thought of, short of WMDs. These men and women are all here by choice. In fact, they paid to be here... 15,000 USD each into a pot for the island you just saw. 10,000 for small group battles and 25,000 for vehicular combat. Though spectators all 'spike' the winnings for at least 1000 each and up to whatever amount they wish."

During this, other video plays, of several different 'games'. "The winner gets 60% of the minimum for his or her island and 90% of and 'spikes'. The other fourty and ten are for operational costs of maintaining the games and profit. In the larger matches, a person or team could become very, very wealthy. Losers? Dead men don't complain. In some cases you are permitted to surrender yourself to the enemy, in that case, you get nothing, but get to keep your life. Safe Zones are in several spots arond each island. If you feel that you can no longer compete in these game, physically or mentally, you can enter these areas and confirm that you are ready to leave and you will be picked up via helicopter and be taken to the fourth island, which has rooms, medical facilities and a spa. After getting cleaned up and checked out, you are free to leave or to compete in the next set of games, if you are able. This island is also the recieving facility for those that come to compete."

The scene switches to a man standing on the Control Ship. "My name is Bela Szabo, Retired Staff Sergeant in the Crimmond Imperial Marine Corps. I'm more well known by my nickname though... Dracula." Probably from his enjoyment of battle and his first name being Bela. "I invite any who have the money and the steel in their balls, or ovaries, to some here and prove what they are made of. Not for glory, but for money. I invite any who do not have the steel to compete to come as well, so long as they contribute to the winnings. Such is the price of being a spectator.

"Gholgoth just got a bit bloodier." He chuckles and the feed cuts out.

[OOC: Here's how I'd like to do this... either two nations compete against each other on a seperate thread, or, for those that are more focuse on story than winning, they can have their own series of matches in their own thread, all linked back to here.

This is a way for you old nations that can't find a good war to do something with either military, para-military or just a street gang with cash and guts.

Small group means no more than eight to a side. Vehicular means nothing more than Bradleys. Mixed/other means convoys, objective based missions, air strikes(from trainers armed with machine guns, phosphorus rockets and maybe a little napalm) and any other type of assault you wish to come up with.

There are several areas: Urban, rural, woods, dense woods, small mountain and beach. None of the islands were suitable for desertification.

All non-combat vehicles(which are air and sea only) are painted bright white with bright green stripes. Very hard to mistake for an enemy.

Weapons are any that you bring with you, with purchasable one person weapons availible on the fourth island(ranging from pistols to .50BMG sniper rifles). Vehicles are mounted with standard weapons and are provided to the competitors(unless they bring their own, in which case it will be insected throughly so that it's confirmed that no chemical or biological agents are aboard. Nuclear is obviously not allowed.).

[OOC: I'm interested, simply because I've read a whole lot of war RPs and they can get very detailed and story-like; but I've never actually participated in a real one, being something of a n00b. Therefore, set my name down for the island with the small mountain and preferably some forests; I'll find a way to work in a team, preferably against someone who has a similar appreciation for telling stories as opposed to statwanking or similar activities that tend to make up the bulk of war RPs on International Incidents.]
