Nova Aquaria was named by Christopher Columbus in 1492, and it translates into "new waters".

In what language? Certainly not in latin. "New waters" translates to "Novae Aquae" or even "Aquae Novae," presuming the nominative case.

OOC: Quit tearing it apart, say it frustrates when all you get is negative feedback. I would like to see you guys' histories

Medieval Latin I'd guess. The -ia was likely put there to indicate it's a place.

I think not. Aquar is not a principle part of the word for water. The cases for water are as follows:

Case /Singular/ Plural
Nominative /Aqua/ Aquae
Genitive /Aquae/ Aquarum
Dative /Aquae/ Aquis
Accusative /Aquam/ Aquas
Ablative /Aqua/ Aquis

Who appointed you judge and jury of the latin language. It is people like you that make it difficult to get involved in NS. Get it through your thick skull COUNTRY NAMES EVOLVE for example, my countries name used to be Burristane (see my history, that is if you can read) now it has evolved to Buristan, popularized by a king

I currently have an A in my introductory Latin course.

Except the ones with Latin names. Latin is a dead language.

Well hooty-tooty for you, INTRODUCTORY the key word.

Except the ones with Latin names. Latin is a dead language.

Names become shortened, simplified, and changed according to the native language, so yes, even Latin ones change.

Declining a first declension noun isn't exactly super advanced shit.

Names become shortened, simplified, and changed according to the native language, so yes, even Latin ones change.

Aquaria is shortened and simplified from Aquae? I think not.

From Aquaeria perhaps, the -ria denoting it is a place

THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS AQUAERIA!

So, this guy has no idea how to speak latin. It's obvious that Nova is the Medieval Latin form of the word, Aquaria on the other hand... That's it! His nation's name is New Aquarium!

Are you seriously flaming someone for name usage? Very mature. Very mature indeed.

If your going to tear a name apart, why not mine?

Lets see, Krataerbech...

Krater is German for Crater. I added an a before the e to make it look different, and less "English". As for the "Bech", I had just listened to a Beck CD, and decided to add that to the end and make it a little different.

Are you going to rip me apart for that?

You didn't claim that your name meant something. He did.

OOC: Why in the world are you arguing about some guys fucking Spelling? Who cares if it means something or not? It's what he says. Have you ever thought that maybe it means something in a completely different language somewhat related to Latin?

Ok. Stop arguing. No more sillyness on this thread.

We'll criticize his name as much as we want to! Oh and in response to what New Aquarium said way back in the beggining of the thread, if you want my nation's history, go to my factbook. My history is a lot better then yours. Not only that, but my nation's name isn't reminiscent of a lame type of theme park. Nova=New Brittanica=Great Britain. Both were used by the Romans. I would have gone with Brittania, but it was taken. I seemed to remember that the Romans also used Brittanica, so that's what I choose as my nation name.

Why? You realize that you and The Fourth Holy Reich have completley DESTROYED his history thread, right? I have half a mind to report you two.

When I joined nationstates, I was under the impression that you could RP with the most realism you can muster, or you can RP devoid of any reality whatsoever. Nationstates is absolute freedom in whatever you do. Nationstates is only about telling a story, not about keeping with accuracy to the T's. So I ask you, why tear apart a simple name, when it is not about the name but the story, a story of a people, the Nova Aquarians.
