You've heard it before. Its impossible. It can't be done. Its just too hard.
Well I'm here to tell you that it is NOT impossible, and it certainly can be done.
Thats right. I'm talking about mapping Nationstates, or as some of us call it
NS EARTH
Here's how this works. Make or find a map for your nation/region/neighbors. Pick a quadrent where your nation/region/neighbors would like to reside. EDIT: Disregard last statement. I'll decide where your nation/region goes now. If you would really like to be in a certain location, I'll allow that, but otherwise, don't ask. Each quadrent is 6500 by 4500 miles, so remember that when you are submitting a map. Upload your map to an image hosting site, preferably Imageshack (Imageshack.us). I will resize your image accordingly, and add image to the map, as well as a list of nations residing in that quadrent. If you like, submit your NS Wiki or Factbook, and I'll add your link to the list where your nation is. After that, you are all set. Simple no? So what are you waiting for, sign up today!

My Map (http://img218.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newestmaraquemap5000000pt9.gif) is enormous, and my country is approximately half the size of the pacific ocean, so I don't know how it'll look on the map, but I like E3, or somewhere around that general area.

Oh, and the Confederacy of Khorvania is my neighbor. (He's the peninsula in the southern portion of the province of Atrons)

First thing first, yes, that is a sheer cliff with nothing but ocean beyond it. It was made a year ago when my photoshop skills weren't l33t. Also, I didn't request the entire quadrant, only to be located in that area.

Thats not really even the problem. I can work with the picture that small, I'm only going to shrink it anyways. The problem I don't know what is what in the picture. You said it was your region's map, but never said who.

actually that was only my nation's map. But I left a message for my region to create a map.

The other map is of Xanadou and that is my freinds region. It includes the Xanadouien Sea, the island Principality of Kurona and the Empire of Magic Sorcery which is the large land mass.

Great job. I think this is a great thing for the nations that will actually use it as real representation of where their country is in the world. I know I am.

I'd like E-2, E-3, F-2, F-3. It may seem ridiculous for someone of my population (I RP controlling the Northern Half of Mexico, all of the US and Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Carribean (they are a colony). Before you dismiss that, please consider: I will grow soon. In 1 month, that claim will be decently reasonable. So please, may I have that?

I would like to avoid adding nations with RL claims. Also, that would probably leave you with something the size of one quadrent, not the amount you listed. Lets put it this way: My nation, in B3 I believe, is about the size of America. You can hardly see it on this map.

The point of not having them be RL nations is that using an RL nation demonstrates a lack of creativity. No offense of course. There are plenty of Earths you can join so you can have these locations.

Well this is disappointing. Finally, a way to do it right, and no one wants in.

Don't worry, it takes some time for these things to catch on.

Some advice on grabbing the attention of others:

1. Most people like keeping in their little niche groups here on NS, so if you want their input you are going to have to grab each and every one of them by the balls and find a way to drag them here. While labourous, it would probably be a good idea to send TG to the delegate of every god damn region in nationsates asking to report if they wish to be considered a part of NS-Earth or not in this thread (or by email I guess). That's a lot of regions, so you might wanna keep a list of who you contacted so you can break up the immense task before you.

2. Follow up if you can on those that don't get back to you. Find out from those that don't want to take part why they don't want to and try to make them happy. Once you have a confirmed list of yay's and nay's from everyone, hopefully you should have a better idea of what to do with the map.

3. Seek out help, lots of it. A number of regions have dedicated map makers of varying talent that might be willing to assist.

4. Make it clear that local region conditions are not going to change in regards to position on the map. Most people have little to no idea about how the earth works anyway.

5. Add more boxes as required.

6. Include the pacifics, they are the backbone of nationstates - and no, that doesn't necessarily mean each region will front a map with 1000's of nations.

7. Take into consideration that not all regions are active on the general NS forums. Some may jump enthusiastically at the idea, others may decline as they have their own world or whatever.

Krataerbech, I appreciate what you're doing, and, as one of the leaders of our region, I would like to inquire on whether you would accept the land claims we would like.

Ehr... Maybe it is a bit too much. But, anyway, there are certain requirements for the roles we play.
Our region would like reside in sectors near the North Pole - that's, I get, 10B to 13C, mostly, if some reserve is made on the borders. That includes internal seas, it isn't a huge landmass (my nation takes a considerable part of a large continent, close to Eurasia, but it is a post-nuclear wasteland, only a small part habitable). I guess you use nautical miles, not land-walker ones? In any case - we can adjust the dimensions, just that it should fit the real Earth's surface.

Well, I understand if you hesitate. But our region (50-something active nations, growing) decided to have an Earth-sized map for internal affairs. That means, well, that we need something where an Earth-sized map could fit. Please respond with the decision. We can negotiate, but it's actually a matter of combining good internal RP and being externally independent (Freedom Hall obviously isn't a dictatorship), not just land ownership. Basically I'm afraid most of our nations will reject this initiative if they have to resize to fit - we're already quite defined about where we would be on Earth, so the corresponding area can't be considerably reduced. Of course, we also don't need more, and will fit new nations in that map as we grow, giving them our land if needed.
The common map is not finalized now, so it can be changed.

) I suppose, although you'd have to a) give it a whole lot of space (30+ nations) and b) place it within reasonable distance of other groups and nations with which it roleplays, such as Questers, ViZion, Kahanistan, Doomingsland, Bornerifreudia, Gholgoth, et al. And those groups haven't been added to the map yet. So put it somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere, within a reasonable distance of Tocrowkia but with enough space to fit a crapload of other people nearby.

I would rather not ask whole regions, especially the Pacifics, as a great many of them don't RP. I figure, if anyone in a region does RP, and the region is interested, then they'll see this, and ask here. I am planning to add more boxes as time goes on, infact, I've already expanded it.
I am planning to ask the larger regions that RP, such as the Gholgoth's and the like. As for help makeing this map, I think I've got things under control, but I will ask if the time comes. Its really a very simple process I have going on, and I do have the necessary tools, so its not TOO difficult.

I've added Haven. I'll update the rest of the page soon, theres an awful lot of nations to add there.

Eh...could you make my nation just a little bit bigger on the map? I don't want to take up entire quad rents like Maraque, just make me look big enough as to appear that I can reasonably support 5+ Billion people without them all living in huge piles on top of each other.

The maps on the first page of that thread are the maps of Arterus. Arterus is not really a region, more a series of continents for colonization that have become rather well known and important(especially if you are involved with Kraven). Arterus is about the size of RL Earth, and should be somewhere in the middle(kind of off to the side away from whats on there so far).

Also my region, Terra Exitium. Size is the same as it's RL counterpart. Put it wherever you want. Reasonably away from Gholgoth and Haven, I suppose. XD

I'll put Arterus up soon, but I'm afraid I can't see Terra Exitium. I can't see anything hosted on angel fire, not sure why. Could you host it at Imageshack? It doesn't matter if you have to save it as jpeg, I have Gimp so I can get rid of the artifacts.

Doujin, your map should be to scale, based on the size you gave me. I think your misunderstanding just how big this map actually is. My nation, in B3, is about the size of the United States. See how small it is? So your nation should definatly be to scale. I even did the calculations to make sure it was right.

Morvonia, listen to Zukariaa, he's exactly right. How would that look if your nation just all of the sudden ended in ocean? Not too great, I'm guessing. If you don't have a full map, I can do one of three things for you, if you like.
1. I can just get rid of your neigbors, and make you an island. Shouldn't be too hard.
2. I can make you a brand new map. Its like a hobby of mine, so I wouldn't mind it. Plus it'll only take me a few minutes anyways.
3. I can put you somewhere there is a situation like yours. I accidently added a few nations that have neighbors, and I can just put you there.
Choose one.

I'm not asking you to adjust the size of the land mass, I'm asking you to move it down a bit so that it takes up N4 as well :P

Hey, how do I have my nation on the map? What do I do?

I think this is a great idea. I'll be putting together a map of the region of Mercenary Lands (Nations of the Empire of Xeraph). The Empire itself is roughly 1/2 the size of the USA. Known neighbors are:

Crossman Imperium...northeast of ML
Mandalore Prime/Nexia Prime...southwest of ML
Region of Avignon...1200 miles southeast of ML
Region of The Pagan Borderlands...1150 miles due north of ML
Region of Ur Mesop...shares border with region of The Pagan Borderlands to the west.
Region of Mythos...800 miles due south of ML


From past posts with ViZIon, I must be somewhere within striking distance of RL Europe/MedSea/Northern Africa. I have numerous CBGs and landbases in various nations out that way. I don't know how all that will work.

I think you misunderstood my intentions. I am planning on mapping all the active ROLEPLAYING nations in NS, excluding earths. This doesn't mean I'm planning on mapping every single nation there is. Also, its not like this is a tiny map. My nation in the Sturmisch Ocean is the size of the United States, and as you can see its barely visible. Plus, I WILL be increasing the size of this as time goes on.

I think you misunderstood my intentions. I am planning on mapping all the active ROLEPLAYING nations in NS, excluding earths. This doesn't mean I'm planning on mapping every single nation there is. Also, its not like this is a tiny map. My nation in the Sturmisch Ocean is the size of the United States, and as you can see its barely visible. Plus, I WILL be increasing the size of this as time goes on.

Roughly 3.7 billion, but my nation does a LOT of weapons testing. It's what our economy runs on, so we have a LOT of extra land. Basically, if you need new weapons or want a place to test your own, just come on over and we'll rent you out a spot to test it.

Oh, and don't try using them on us. We have a very complex anti-ballistic missile system and a large defensive line along our coasts and the border between the weapons testing area and the main portion of the country.

Here is the map of the Isles of Wohlstand. Feel free to detach from land and add more islands. We are a moderate temperature country with some desert in the extreme south, so wherever works best. We are also cold in the north because of currents.
