OOC: I got the issue asking about allowing corporate donations to political parties, and the final option being to get rid of elections and take power, so I figured what the hell. This thread shows the transition from democracy to monarchy, and sets up for future internal conflicts. I'll post a detail history that might help some of it make sense in case you don't fully understand certain aspects. Not so much an RP, as it is showing a government transition.

09:37, Parliament;

Prime Minister Harold Seyek stood from his seat, and waited for the Speaker to finish pounding with his gavel for order. The elected representatives of the Commonwealth were in an uproar, Harold's brother, James, was marching onto the capital city of Lordis. 2 Brigade, Mechanized, one of the units of the newly commissioned Raithal Defence Forces, and freshly trained and armed by Crookfur, had been rushed into service, and was setting up across the city with the assistance of the newly upfunded national police, who were outfitted with all sorts of new vehicles, weapons, and body armour.

The military and police reforms had almost caused seccession and civil war, especially among the representatives of the Summerland and its many corporate and farmer's coalition militias. The threat of James Seyek, descendant of the long deposed Royal family, and his attempts to reclaim the throne had changed the delegates minds however. This meeting of parliament was discussing something that had not been done in over a century, a declaration of the war measures act, and in doing so, giving absolute power to the Prime Minister. To do so however, required an 80% approval of the Senate and Parliament. Both were in session, with the Senate being located in the opposite wing of the building.

"Elected Representatives of the people, I know how you feel about the situation, and I agree that this decision is not one to be taken lightly. However, we cannot ignore the threat that my brother poses to us all. He has already declared himself King, and his army has already seized many of the towns along the St. William river, and we all know he marches here personally. Though 2 Brigade has deployed, I fear it may not be enough, while well armed, they have not yet been tested, nor are they fully trained. Even their senior commanders have less training then many nations' platoon commanders, whereas the army my brother commands has seen years of experience and is unquestionably loyal to him. If we remain divided, fighting amongst each other, he will seize power and destroy us all. We have worked too hard to let this nation fall, we must stand together. The only way to do this effectively, and the only way to fight him, is to pass the War Measures Act, and give me the power I need to command our joint forces against him. Together we will win, but if we remain divided, we all fall," Harold pleaded once more, before the motion went to a vote. Several delegates, outraged, stormed out of the room. The rest waited for the Speaker to begin the voting.

After half an hour, the last votes had been tallied. The motion passed, with 87% approval. The Senate, working to be prepared in case Parliament did pass the act, had already conducted their vote. They had passed it by 91%. The motion was brought into law, and after a short ceremony absolute power was invested into Harold Seyek, and he was granted the title of Lord General, the ancient title granted to those individuals who were entrusted with the leadership and defence of the Commonwealth.

After the ceremony was over, a screen was wheeled in and a projector fired up. Parliament was fed real-time visual and audio communication from 2 Brigades armoured regiment, which comprised 58 brand new T-14 Hector Main Battle Tanks, more than one of which had never been turned on until that day. All of them still bore the gray factory paint applied by Crookfur Arms before delivery.

The members of parliament watched as the armour advanced onto the marching army of James Seyek, which moved in an almost parade fashion. As the tanks approached many muttered prayers to the friends and families of the tankers, believing that many of them would die in the charge meant to delay the armys advance.

Then something odd happened, as the tanks approached into range, none fired. Instead, they moved into visual contact, and the banners of House Seyek could be seen fluttering in the wind. Then the tanks split into two groups of 28 vehicles, forming into 2 lines of 14 on either side of the main highway. The remaining two vehicles unfurled the flag of House Seyek and moved to take lead positions in the marching army.

Shock and outrage spread among the gathered politicians. How could this happen? How could the new army so readily betray them? The gathered officials looked to the Lord General for explanation and found him smirking.

There worst nightmares were realized when the doors burst open and infantry stormed in, hauling away the members of the opposition, and even several members of Harold's party. Opposition leader Tom Kennedy screamed and kicked and pried himself free of the soldiers' grasp and charged at the Lord General.

Two shots rang out, and the room went silent. The rest of the opposition members surrendered peacefully, two soldiers removed the body, and a third wiped up the blood.

13:22, Streets of Lordis

News had spread of what had occured in the Parliament building. The senate, appointed by the Prime Minister and his cabinet, remained largely untouched, except for a few outspoken members who were hauled off with the parliament members. Hundreds of thousands took to the streets to witness what they knew would be a historic day for their nation.

The army of James Seyek marched triumphantly into the city, escorted by the armour and infantry of the Raithal Defence Forces, and further escorted by the men and women of the National Police. As they marched, James, sitting in the hatch of a Jager CV, waved and blew kisses to the citizens of Lordis, most of whom were unsure of what to make of the situation. But as the army marched through, in parade formation and wearing berets rather than combat helmets, throwing waves and candy to the children, and exhibiting an air of enthusiasm, it spread through the crowd. By the time they reached parliament, the citizens of Lordis were cheering.

The army halted outside of the parliamentary complex, originally an oceanside palace built by the Kings of old. The bell tower, which was traditionally rung to welcome back members of the Royal family, and had been silent for centuries, rang out strongly as rose petals were tossed at the feet of James Seyek.

He marched triumphantly in ancient ceremonial armour, with a flowing cape that bore the silver sword and star crest of House Seyek. He walked into the courtyard, where the press had already gathered, and Harold, the commanders of the RDF, the cabinet, and the leaders of the Senate.

"Welcome home brother, it is good to see you again," Harold said, smiling broadly, and holding the ancient crown, recovered from the national museum.

"And it is good to see you little brother," James said as he embraced Harold.

The crowd, which had shifted into the courtyard, or were watching on screens the police had set up throughout the city, cheered as they watched their Prime Minister and James embrace.

Over the next thiry minutes, the archbishop performed the coronation ceremony that would make James King, and Raithal was declared a monarchy once more.

14:02, Summerland, City of Tarsis

While the streets of Lordis were filled with joy and jubilation as a new Monarch took the throne of Raithal, the streets of the Summerland settlements, the agricultural, and consequently, economic heartland of Raithal, were filled with fury.

The few federal insititutions were attacked, militias drove the National Police from their handful of precincts, but an advancing brigade of fresh RDF troops, from 1 Brigade, Armoured, forced them back.

"...we shall work together, to reign in the traitors that have sought to destroy our glorious nation..." the sounds of James' speech drifted over the public service speakers as Tasis Coalition gunmen fought running firefights with advancing Hector Main Battle Tanks, already one was burning, and several others damaged by mass RPG fire, but the Coalition fighters were no match for the Crookfur manufactured armour.
