Kendall, Lower Columbia (LCPA) - In a royal press conference yesterday, His Majesty King Zachary announced a bold new move for the country's energy industry, with the elimination of all oil consumption.
According to the king, automotive gasoline and diesel usage will be replaced by hydrogen-based fuel cells over the next 20 years, a move made possible by new trade relations with the Kingdom of Krataerbech.
"Thanks to our new Krataerian supply of hydrogen, our country can finally end its dependence on oil," the king said. "What my predecessor King Adam started with the Urban Energy Act of 2359, I will finish for our nation's vehicles."
The king was referring to the replacement of all coal- and oil-fueled power plants with nuclear plants almost 50 years ago, which saw Lower Columbia's air quality improve dramatically. His Majesty expects a similar environmental benefit to arise from this new law.
In addition to automotive fuel cells, the Hydrogen Power Act of 2406 will provide subsidies to landlords and other property owners for installing larger-scale fuel cells in their homes and businesses.
Representatives from Lower Columbia's automobile manufacturers have not yet comented on the new law, which will impact them most.
