Kiev, Ukraine

After the collapse of the totalitarian regime ruling the regions of the Ukraine, and Moldova, all hell had broken loose.

The Communist Party running its self from both countries had tried to take power, but the Ukrainian-Moldavian Democratic Union had challenged their claim to power. What resulted was one of the bloodiest civil wars in the Ukraine. Both parties had been decimated by the war which lasted a mere two months.

The Republican Front, however, had remained neutral and consolidated their power. Now they were the most powerful party in the Ukraine and Moldova, which had also been a victim of civil war. Leading the Republican Front was Alexi Kalashnikova. He had founded the Republican Front in response to increased Communism within the Ukraine and Moldova. Since he was a child his father had preached of the evils of Communism.

Now he was ready to make his claim to fame. He had organized with his militia leaders in the Ukraine and Moldova to successfully establish a new government. This resulted in the simultaneous execution of High Commands within the Communist and Democratic Unions. The two parties did not suspect the less popular Republican Front to try anything. They were wrong in two crucial areas, though:

1. While they killed each other, the Republican Front had successfully harnessed the situation to their advantage and had recruited many neutralist to their cause.

2. The Republican Front was now much more powerful, and was quickly becoming a household term.

The time of reform was now.

Alexi stood up from his desk in the small run down apartment. He walked over to the dresser and picked up his radio:

"Libertas is go, I repeat Libertas is go!" he said into the radio with a hint of excitement in his voice.

A series of voices all acknowledged his order, and now all he could do was wait. It was expected that it would take two hours in all to successfully terminate all opposition to power. Alexi slowly put down the radio taking in a deep breath and saying a prayer to himself.

He walked over to his bed in the corner and laid down, he would take a short nap to pass the time.

0:13 Local Time

Alexi awoke suddenly to the static voice of one of his militia leaders. He quickly got up and picked up the radio:

"This is Alexi, say again, over."

"Libertas is completed, leaders executed, over."

A wave of happiness and accomplishment swept Alexi as the words passed through him. His plan had worked, the two parties would be in disarray with the deaths of their entire High Command. Now was the difficult part, he had to harness the support of the public to drive the remnants of the two parties out of his new country.

Alexi quickly stepped out his door, radio in hand, to find his two bodyguards waiting by the door. "Lavitz, Dmitri lets go, we must go to the Radio Station now."

Kiev Radio Broadcast Association Headquarters
Kiev, Ukraine

The small SUV pulled outside the badly beaten building. It had served as a final position for the totalitarian regime, and more than earned its share of bullets.

Alexi quickly ran up the steps with his two bodyguards, instead of carrying a radio however, he had traded it for a Smith and Wesson .357, in the event they ran into opposition.

Alexi was relieved as he entered the building to find it deserted. He knew exactly where to go; before the collapse he had served as a technician here at the Radio Station.

Alexi and his bodyguards quickly ran up the stairs to the third floor, where they found the broadcasting studio. Listeners was not a problem, already flyer's and loudspeakers on top of SUV's were being used to inform people to tune their radio's or find a radio to receive an important address.

Alexi, sat down in the chair, and quickly setup the machines to broadcast his message, with the flick of a switch he began his address:

"Ladies and Gentleman, brothers and sisters, We come to you in the finest of hours for the people of the Ukraine and Moldova. We are the Republican Front, and we are here to restore peace and happiness to our homes. It seems as if the fighting has been endless, but I am happy to announce to you that the fighting will be over VERY soon. To end the fighting once and for all we must ask our brothers and sisters who fight in the name of Communism and Democracy to put down their weapons and join the masses.

I come to you not as a leader, but as a citizen of this nation. We must end the fighting and restore our own government. It is the gravest of times, we have seen recently. But do not let those times be the founding stones of our new civilization. Let us open to new skies and establish our own will!

I ask all of you to join me in plaza's, church's, mall's, and community centers to celebrate this new day for our peoples!"

With that, Alexi flipped the switch and sat there, enthralled in his success. His time had come.

After chattering in a park in Moscow with his friends from "the old war," the government-run press asked Milan Srecko how he viewed the situation in the Ukraine.

"It is most pleasing to hear that the Ukrainians have finally eliminated the treacherous, totalitarian pigs that threated our nation; we will naturally recognize the new government," he replied.

Two Years Earlier
Kiev, Ukraine

Alexi Kalashnikova got out of bed with a loud yawn, and then walked to his kitchen. His "house" consisted of one room, with the bathroom, kitchen, and living room all in the same room. He routinely made his morning coffee as he always had for years now. He walked over to his small black and white television that he had spent three months saving for, and even then he was still paying a monthly bill for it. As he turned it on, Yuri Litvo, the "President" of the country was giving a speech. He watched blankly:

"Citizens, the rumors that the Government is bankrupt is completely bogus! Would you believe a bunch of people who don't even have access to our financial records, or would you believe your faithful government! We all know the answer. Now, those who are responsible for this treason will be found and persecuted under the full force of the law. Thank you, and have a great day."

Alexi gave a grunt as he turned off the television "What a bastard," he said to himself.

He walked over to the dresser and got ready for work. Thirty minutes later he walked out the door, locking it behind him.

As he arrived to the Ukrainian Broadcasting Station, he walked up the large steps to the front doors. "Hello Vladi," he said with a smile to the guard outside the door. He went to the third floor, where he was a technician for the broadcasting equipment. As he walked in, his boss, Lev Aetii, quickly called his name "Alexi, come over here please," his boss said with slight irritation.

"I need you to fix the transformer on the fourth floor, get moving please." Alexi nodded and quickly went to the fourth floor.

He spent about an hour fiddling with the transformer when he suddenly heard screams from below. He stood up quickly listening, suddenly a series of gunshots could be heard.

He quickly ran downstairs, but as he came out the door from the stairwell he was quickly met by Government soldiers. "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!" one of them yelled at him, Alexi quickly hit the deck and began to look around. He could barely see into the broadcasting studio. Suddenly he was being lifted to his feet by one of the soldiers and thrown against the wall. He let out a grunt as he hit the wall with a loud thud.

"What do you people want from us?!?" he yelled.

"Some of your co-workers are guilt of treas-" the soldier broke off as one of the men within the studio called to him.

The soldier quickly walked into the room, Alexi crept to the door looking around the corner. What he saw almost made him vomit.

Four of his coworkers had been brutally shot down, and now Lev, his boss, was laying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his leg, and the soldiers were hovering over him with their guns pointed at him.

"Where is your ring leader!" one of the soldiers demanded from Lev,

"I don't know what you are talking about!" Lev said pleadingly

"We know you are involved with this group! If you don't tell us, you will end up like the rest of them." the soldier said angrily.

"I swear to you I don't know." Lev said crying.

The soldier stood up and whispered to one of the other soldiers.

"Fine, but you better watch your next moves!" the soldier screamed at Lev.

Lev began to get up, and saw Alexi peering from the door, he attempted at a smile to show him it was alright.

Suddenly the soldier, drew his pistol and shot Lev in the back of the head. Lev quickly fell to the floor.

Alexi withdrew his head, and closed his eyes covering his face. He couldnt believe this was happening. He wanted it to just be a dream. He slid down the wall as he went to sit down.

The soldiers came out of the room, peering at Alexi they said:

"Your hereby fired, go home."

With that they left.

Alexi didn't leave until three hours later, after the coroner had come had taken all the bodies. He stood up and walked over to where the multiple bodies had been. Blood was everywhere. He couldnt bear it, he turned around and left. He didn't know what to do with himself. As he walked around the city he thought to himself about what had caused this. He wished he could of done something. He suddenly stopped. He ran to a payphone, and called his best-friend Nikolai Yur:

"Nikolai! This is Alexi, I can't explain but we need to meet. Meet me at Boris' Pub, I will explain everything to you there."

He hung up the phone and began to walk in the direction of the Pub.

Boris' Pub, Two hours later
Kiev, Ukraine

Nikolai could not believe what Alexi had just told him. Alexi looked blankly at Nikolai.

"We have to do something," Alexi said quietly looking around.

"Like what? This government is paranoid enough, next thing you know they will out law all gatherings."

A sudden change of expression appeared on Alexi's face.

"Your a genius Nikolai!" he said loudly

Everyone in the pub sort of glanced at the two then turned back to their own conversations.

Alexi looked around quickly then he began to whisper:

"Do you still know that political friend of yours, what his name, uhh-"

"Stepan?" Nikolai asked

"Yes! Him!" Alexi said with a large grin on his face.

"Yeah, what about him?"

"I need you to ask him what has to be done, to make an official political organization." Alexi replied

"Why, whats your plan?" Nikolai said with a raised eyebrow

"We are going to bring a professional, controlled, political party to the peoples of the Ukraine and Moldova!"

Nikolai just about choked. "Are you serious?"

"Dead serious." Alexi said with a serious expression on his face.

"Ok then, I will call him."

Republican Front Headquarters, one year and nine months later
Kiev, Ukraine

Alexi walked into the front doors of the Headquarters of the Republican Front Party. Since he had met with Nikolai, in the Pub, they had successfully established their new legitimate party. Now they were slowly trying to get their message out. They promised a better, more professional, and controlled government.

Of course Alexi, knew very well due to the temperament of the current regime, they had to be very careful how they did this. That was why they had taken such a long time.

Alexi had bigger concerns though, since they had started the Party, problems within the country had gradually deteriorated and riots were becoming more prevalent. Just last week, in Southern Ukraine, there had been a massive riot in the city of Mikyolaiv, which resulted in the deaths of 400 rioters, 200 Police and Soldiers, and the cities Mayor.

Now the government was getting ready to call for martial law, and the local Communist Party was not very happy. Word was spreading in the parties, that the Communist were planning to overthrow the government. It was expected to happen sometime in the coming months. They couldn't have been more wrong.

"So we need to setup a rally in the fishery, make sure to have spotters 2 miles out in all directions, with pairs every half mile back," Alexi explained to one of his demonstration coordinators.

Suddenly one of the Headquarters staff burst through the door as if an atomic bomb had just exploded.

"ALEXI! THE COMMUNIST ARE RISING! THEY HAVE ALREADY KILLED MOST OF PARLIAMENT AND THEY ARE STORMING THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE AS WE SPEAK!"

Alexi dropped his pen, and stared at the man as he ran back to the television.

"So it has began...." Alexi paused

"We have to devise some sort of plan.... The Communist will surely outlaw our party if they seize power...."

With that Alexi realized what the must do.......... He had to call his high level agents within the Ukrainian-Moldavian Democratic Union. There would be a war, it just wouldn't be fought by the Republican Front.

IC - present time: The Emirate of Alif Laam Miim sees every reason to foster close relations with the Republican Federation [despite the awry and ambiguous title...]. We hope that your government agrees to a preliminary exchange of embassies - at the moment, we offer locations in Al Qahirah [Cairo] or Al Iskandariyah [Alexandria], and if possible, we would like to establish an embassy in your capital of Kiev. And for the moment, while we are still aware, we would like to make arrangements for the establishment of a conference to discuss the development of ties further with the government of the Republican Federation, especially in reference to the Emirate's role as the unilateral protector of Muslims and their rights, among other faiths and rights of all peoples.
