Planets for colonization (MT/PMT, ATTN All)

British Londinium
22-11-2006, 22:03
Recently, the nation of British Londinium discovered a solar system ripe with planets. We have dispatched a ship of colonists to this system, and the whole system has been claimed in the name of British Londinium. However, we are offering the colonization rights of one planet, Itzama, to any nation willing to pay the price. Let the bidding begin!

OOC: Oooooh! Me want! Planets must be expensive.

IC:

The Democratic Constitutional Monarchy of the Secular Empire of Maraque will open a starting bid of $1 trillion.

OOC: How are MT nations supposed to use that planet?

OOC: How are MT nations supposed to use that planet?

Well, MT would allow for bussard ramjets, so colony ships could reach this planet in less than 10 years.

His Britannic Majesty, Emperor James I, and Her Britannic Majesty, Empress Hemali I, are willing to accept this price, however, we shall let the bidding continue for a few more days.

Emperor Jovan S. Norris wishes to inquire as to what kind of landscape and terrain this planet has, how large in square miles it is*, and what kind of natural resources it possesses.

*Earth is around 57.5 million square miles for comparison.

OOC: Wait, interstellar travel on any sort of meaningful time scale, in MT/PMT?

This planet is 60.2 million square miles large, with a remarkably similiar landscape to that of Earth's, except there's the odd phenomenon of it snowing in deserts. The scope of the planet's resources is not fully known, however, an orbiting science vessel has reported that there are large forests, and deposits of petroleum, gold, silver, uranium, and diamonds are abound.

Preliminary reports show the planet very similiar to its neighbour, Vishnu, which we are in the process of colonizing, so further details shall be released when they become available.

OOC: Bussard Ramjets wouldn't be MT, and they don't work (interstellar medium+giant magnetic ramscoop=drag). Now, RAIR would be a good alternative (modified bussard ramjet), but thats PMT at best. Best you could do in MT would be a Orion ark, but thats a) expensive b) rather dirty fallout wise. Travel time is also a problem, high relativistic velocities are pretty much FT...So how far out is the system? EDIT: 96.88 kilometers square is smaller then some asteroids/minor planets

My country: 30,000,000 sq mi
Planet: 60.2 sq mi

30,000,000 / 60.2 = 498,338.

498,338 x 60.2 = 29,999,947.6, or 30,000,000

The Social Democracy of Haraki is willing to offer a payment in installments, of 5 trillion dollars over ten years. This seems reasonable to us as we do not want a purchase of something that will not benefit us for at least a decade, if not many more, to put us in debt right now.
