Republiki ya Kóngo Demokratiki
République Démocratique du Congo
Repubilika ya Kongo Demokratika
Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Kongo
Ditunga dia Kongu wa Mungalaata
President (Head of State): Iris Sabrine Tshitenge
Prime Minister (Head of Government): Mahmoud Ngolu
Type of Government: Semi-presidential republic, under authoritarian rule
Current Party in Power: Parti Démocratique de la Révolution (Democratic Party of the Revolution, Trotskyist)
2006: After continued rioting in Kinshasa, incumbent President Joseph Kabila extrajudicially extends his presidential powers, making him an effective dictator. The Eastern part of the country all of a sudden experiences a surge of rebellion yet again, and the entirety of the country begins to get very angry with Kabila...
1/3/2007: A ragtag group of dissatisfied elements of the military, anti-Kabila protesters, and a small Trotskyist outfit called the Parti Démocratique de la Révolution, led by 25-year old Iris Sabrine Tshitenge, "forcibly impeach" President Kabila. Tshitenge quickly forms the Direction Administrative Congolaise (Congolese Administrative Directorate) as the provisional executive branch of the country, with herself serving as Chairperson of the DAC. The originally miniscule PDR's ranks swell as it becomes the sole legal party of the nation.
1/5/2007: The Tshitenge government initiates a program called, "Jamais Encore," a program whose point is to smash the Ugandan/Rwandan-created militias in the East. The program begins, and the military begins a brutal campaign against said militias.
2/28/2007: The government begins a campaign to stamp out corruption. Hundreds of officials denounced as corrupt have their assets seized by the government, and are promptly jailed.
5/25/2007: In response to dirty looks from the West at her human rights record in the East, Tshitenge gives a speech at the UN, in which she brutally attacks the West, saying, "My people are my number one priority. Not treating the troublemakers nicely, and definitely not pleasing some little fascist, imperialist, corrupt ape halfway around the world."
9/31/2008: The Lubumbashi Peace Accords officially end the Second Congo War. Tshitenge's largest excesses stop, although she continues to suppress opposition, both within and outside her party.
2008-2013: Tshitenge's government attempts to expand relations with Russia, China, and other African countries, seeing as her relationships with Western countries were damaged badly.
10/1/2013: The DAC officially steps down, and free elections are held. Only, they aren't really free. The PDR maintains an iron grip on the country, winning 71 percent of the legislature and the Presidency. Tshitenge is officially sworn in as the Sixth President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
2/15/2014: A new constitution, similar to Hugo Chávez's Bolivarian Constitution, comes into effect. A semi-presidential system is introduced, and Mahmoud Ngolu becomes the first Prime Minister of the DRC. The constitution introduces a term limit, in which any president could only serve two six-year terms. However, since Tshitenge's current term began before the Constitution of 2014 came into effect, her current term didn't count.
10/1/2017: Legislative elections yet again. The PDR continues its dominance of Parliament, taking about 76 percent, due to both suppression of political opponents and boycotts.
6/30/2019: Tshitenge wins presidential elections yet again. This term would count technically as the first term under the 2014 Constitution, giving her only one more term in office and making her eligible for a recall referendum in 2022.
3/23/2022: A protest in Bukavu for recall of President Tshitenge. These protests came after a petition for the recall referenda, which wasn't to take place, couldn't be provided, although rumors abounded that the petitions were destroyed by the government. The Congolese army attempts peaceful control but ends up firing into the crowd and killing two civilians.
10/1/2023: Legislative elections. The Parliament continues to be overwhelmingly full of PDR members or PDR puppets, but the PDR itself only holds 69 percent of the legislature due to the Bukavu protest.
6/30/2025: Iris Sabrine Tshitenge, now 44, is reelected as President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Having ruled officially for 17 years, she is officially the second-longest serving head of state of the DRC.
