M26 Combat Rifle

After several well publicised incidents involving the M25 HVAR exploding when fired (which PRA maintains will never occur with a properly maintained rifle), the Otagian military requested several new rifle designs from PRA using a less volatile round than the M25, including a new rifle for national security forces. The M26 is that rifle.

Using a 6.5x40mm caseless cartridge, the M26 compensates for the lower killing power of the 6.5mm round with improved rate of fire, sending up to 2200 rounds down range per minute. Pale Rider Arms neglected to include the integral grenade launcher common to all its previous designs, citing decreased utility in security roles.

Length: 611.25mm
Barrel Length: 543.75mm
Mass: 4.6 kilograms
Cartridge: 6.5x40mm caseless (7.5 gram bullet)
Ammunition: 40 box magazine (optional extended magazines in 60, 80, and 100 rounds)
Muzzle Velocity: 910 m/s
Muzzle Energy: 3105.375 joules
Rate of Fire: 800 RPM cyclic (2200 RPM burst fire)
Modes of Fire: Safe, Semi-Automatic, 3 Round Burst, Full Auto
Aiming: Iron sights, integral smartgun system
Cost: 1400 USD

M32 Light Machine Gun

Replacing the volatile M30 SAW, the M32 is based primarily on the M26 assault rifle, sharing over 50% of its components. Like the M26, the M32 LMG features a top mounted magazine and bullpup design, as well as PRA's signature integral SmartGun system. The M32 is expected to be issued to both the Red Samurai and Regular Army forces.

Length: 990mm
Barrel Length: 900mm
Mass:
Cartridge: 6.5x40mm Caseless (7.5 gram bullet)
Ammunition: 80 round box magazine (extended magazines available in 100, 120, 140, and 160)
Muzzle Velocity: 910 m/s
Muzzle Energy: 3243 joules
Rate of Fire: 800 RPM cyclic (2200 on 3 round burst)
Modes of Fire: Safe, semi-automatic, 3 round burst, full auto
Aiming: Iron sights, integral smartgun system
Cost: 6000 USD

OOC: A 2,200 rpm burst sounds a little excessive.

OOC: Not really. Only 200 RPM faster than the G11, and the action is less complex on the M26. I probably could pull a constant 3000 or so if I went with a Gast principle action. Anyway, it makes dealing with recoil easier as the entire burst leaves the barrel before the recoil hits the end of the rifle, and accuracy improves as well, making kills more probable.

OOC: You..sold me...a rifle...that explodes?
Well how do I stop it from doing that? Why would it explode in the first instance?

it is like the early M16 rifles, you need to clean them alot.

Awww hell, can't I just fix it with technology.
If not, I'll just have to have widescale training programs for efficient cleaning of the HVAR.

OOC:the explosion is caused most likely by the parts, since he states it wont happen if cleaned in the first post. So no, you have to either properly maintain the guns or get new ones.

OOC: YEs but would have to state how, and not just say it is fixed. Cleaning woud be simpler.

OOC: You..sold me...a rifle...that explodes?

OOC: The MT variant does. The PMT variant, however does not. Chalk it up to more efficient manufacturing capabilities. ;) It's due mostly to the occasional poorly constructed barrel combined with rough treatment lowering it's integrity even further. Of course, since you're PMT, you don't really have to worry, ne?

What about a front grip,? I'm afraid holding the barrel, especially with such a high ROF would get pretty hot. And I would prefer a front grip, and possibly a parasniper variant.

just a nitpick, you left out the mm on the first set of measurements...

The heat shield located over the M26/M32's barrel is more than sufficient to protect the user from excess heat generated by firing the weapon. As for the rate of fire, it's really not that high, outside of three round bursts.
