I suggest you take a look at the various storefront threads which are found on these forums to see what's on offer.

A good way to go about starting a military is to find storefronts with 'packages', prebuilt groups of units to fill certain roles. These make things a little simpler.
Anything you do buy from them I would suggest keeping lists of somewhere, along with a link to where you got them, for proof of specifications and purchase.
