Akagi troops march into Beichan

Beichan, Shanxsan-Akagi border

The captain blew his whistle, waving the handgun in the air. Alongside him, hundreds of soldiers took deep breaths, readied their helmets, and charged over the border between Shanxsan and the Akagi-yen Imperium. Private Shima Akiyama made sure his helmet was tied properly, and switching the safety off his M14, followed his comrades into battle, wincing as the artillery lighted up the Shanxsan border fort ahead. He could hear the captain screaming Charge! For the Fusoyen! Don't stop until you reach the walls! but the gunfire drowned out almost everything and he could hear was extended machine gun fire and the thunder of the artillery. Tracers and jets streaked through the night as machine gun and cannon fire probed the fort ahead, explosions rocking the skyline and sending coal-black smoke drifting off into the air...

Akiyama ran forwards, following the comrade in front of him, and miraculously was not hit. He did not see anyone else who was hit either though, so he came to the hopeful conclusion that the artillery battery and fighter-bombers had silenced the fort's response capability, but no so, as they entered the kill zone. He once more heard the captain screaming encouragement and firing his pistol before Akiyama tripped over and thudded into the ground. The piece of shrapnel he tripped on saved his life as machine gun fire whizzed over his head, knocking down soldiers. Akiyama could hear their cries, but spitting out he mud that had infiltrated its way into his mouth from his collapse, got back up again, still hearing the captain and seeing the dive of the fighter bombers and the light of their explosions, charged towards the fort.

Akiyama slammed his full weight into the walls of the fort as the machine gun fire riddled the mud in front of him, still as dark as ever, cutting down his advancing comrades. Across the wall of the fort there were various soldiers who had survived from various different companies and battalions, and Private Shima quickly learned that many men from his platoon were killed and the rest had been scattered across the wall. He paused to take his breath and realized he had only been running for five minutes or so. It had felt like a lifetime. Making sure his M14 was ready, the private took a small rest and went to find an officer like he had been ordered. Surely enough, far enough down the line there was an officer, Captain Hiroshi himself with some engineers.

Private Shima, reporting for duty sir.

Hiroshi nodded, or at least Akiyama thought he nodded; it was impossible to tell in the dark and the black stormtrooper uniform didn't really help. Get behind us private, we're going to blow this wall.

It appeared that the Captain was waiting for reinforcements, and the forts defenses stopped firing for some time. Evidently the first wave was through and the second was preparing. Captain Hiroshi squinted at his watch and muttered something intelligible, but a moment later the artillery fire begun again, and the fort replied in kind with its light defenses, and the machine gun fire started up. The second wave had started, and grinning - again, Akiyama thought he was at least, Hiroshi ordered the wall to be blown, and it was, yellow and scarlet and crimson bursting from the old stone walls of the fort blocking the entrance to Shanxsan. The troops spilled out, and the captain screamed for them to follow him, which Akiyama did loyally. Upon reaching a door, the captain ordered his strongest man to knock it down, and Akiyama did not get a very good view, but he could see his submachinegun opening up and the cries of the Shanxsani soldiers inside. The captain ordered the hastily assembled platoon to move along and wtih an assortment of grenades, rifles, and submachine guns slaughtered all the machine gun crews and snipers on this section of the wall.

There were many other explosions that Akiyama had recognized but not taken into account, and the gunfire and the battle going on were sort of in the back of his head, but after the machine gun nests they had smoked out were clear, the Captain addressed them all.

You have fought well, and almost the battle is over.

An explosion rocked the background as a wall collapsed, soldiers streaming over as it became safe.

But this is just the first step in our glorious nations annexation of these... inferior beings. Tommorow, after the formation has regrouped, we will be at the forefront of the advance into the city of Nanshang. I expect that

The Captain was cut short as an NCO approached him, a line of dishevelled and bloodstained soldiers in dark green uniforms behind him. Their helmets and anything of value had been taken, leaving them with literally just their fatigues, as the boots had been taken and the prisoners were walking in bare feet.

Sir, there are some survivors. I have been ordered to take them to you.

The Captain saluted, and in a moments thought, notioned to another NCO who was already splattered with blood, the crimson soaked into his uniform and mud smeared across his face and legs.

Hideki, pass me your rifle. The NCO did so, and checking the magazine and safety, the Captain pulled the bolt back. He motioned for the corporal to move out the way, and without further ado, gunned down the prisoners in seconds, the BAR spluttering its ammunition and rocking in his arms. The smoke from the muzzle and spent cartridges drifted slowly into the sky, joining the smoke and flames from the battle, and the blood slipped from the uneven walkways into the smallest crevices of the battlements, staining the boots of the Akagi troopers. The prisoners lay dead on the floor, some in shock, some in peace, but all thrown violently against the walls to their deaths. The Captain spat on the crumpled bodies of the dozen or so survivors, and handed the rifle back to Hideki.

Nanshang
Two days later...

The town of Beichan, populated by some 900,000 Shanxsani, lay on a river and around it the hilly terrain and bad roads made movement a pain. The populace had begged the troops to stay, but they were fleeing the advance of the unstoppable Akagi Army, to regroup after the pounding they had taken on the border. The control of Nanshang meant that an HQ could be established and a supply train could be created, so obviously control of the area was extremely important. General Akio watched as the fighter bombers soared through the skies, bombing and strafing the routing Shanxsani troops, their line having been broken and their order to fall back and regroup been given. This part of the campaign would be easy, Akio knew - they had complete air control as the Shanxsani did not dare move their planes in here, although later on further away from the border they may get more aggressive in the air, especially in the tough weeks were there would be no forward airfields for his planes.

The troops moved in, some on foot, some on halftracks, with tanks behinds. The troops spread out in the city to control all the major buildings such as hospitals or the town centre. Curious people gathered timidly at doorsides as General Akio took up his position at the town center.

This city is now under occupation of the Glorious Akagi-Yen Imperium. You will be complacent, you will no resist, for if you do, our retaliation will be swift, fast, and hard. I am warning you now, that

Rifle fire sprang around the general and ricocheted off the side of his halftrack. Furious and red with rage, the General began screaming.

Find whoever did that, now! Then he changed his mind. Soldiers had already moved in to position and began to watch for any thing from windows, but the General had a different idea. Take every woman present and line them up. For every ten seconds the person who did this does not show himself, shoot one.

This is how things worked in occupied Nanshang.

Several days later, when troops were passing through to the front, and planes still soared overhead, flags began to appear. The first appeared probably at lunchtime, but they spread like wildfire, the flag of Shanxsan, from every window of every house. Naturally, Akio was furious and he demanded they be taken down. A great raging fire was set up in the city center and soldiers raided houses, bringing the flags to be thrown on the fire. Anyone that refused to take their flag down was taken forcibly, and after their flag thrown on the fire, they would be shot and the body would join their banner. The reign of terror was efficient, and it was cruel. "Comfort women" were chosen by officers and taken to be their concubines and the most beautiful of all women were taken back to the Emperor himself as slaves. In the first week alone over a thousand people were shot or deported, never to be seen again. The punishment for flying the Shanxsan flag was simple: death, defamation, and cremation.

OOC: First, I have a question. Is there a Shanxsan player, or is this just something you wanted to write, or history your nation needs?

Secondly, this is very, very well written, Good job.

OOC: There is no Shanxsan player, it will all be RPed by me - the factbook (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=507585) (Should really make a signature...) explains this, but essentially Shanxsan is a bordering nation where tensions have soared recently.

And thanks :) I try my best.
