[MT] Space Station To Be Built (Need more nations to help build it)

The United Ed States
18-11-2006, 16:45
The [MT] Constitutional Monarchy of the United Ed States, in hopes to build up a bigger space program, wishes to build a international space station above the Earth's atmosphere. This station will orbit the Earth continuously, and with assorted rockets all around it, although limited in mobility, it will be able to move slightly out of it's usual orbit, say, to hover over an earthquake that is rocking the Earth, or get a bird's eye view of any other natural disaster.

Prime Minister Randolph, Prime Minister of the United Ed States, asks all nations to help fund and build the space station. All nations interested who do help (and even a little help is appreciated) will have equal claim to the station, and may house astronaughts there during an emergency, or even just to enjoy the satelite TV's aboard. This is an INTERNATIONAL Space Station, and so the more nations that take part in the construction, the better.

Space Station (named Station 1 until a better more suitable name is found)
will have the following features:
-4 full size shuttle docking ports
-2 smaller emergency exit ports
-A 6 chamber facility, each facility is connected to the other, but each is self reliant, so multiple nations can take there own facility but still meet with other nation's astronaughts
-The usual shuttle like accomodations (the obvious, several bathrooms, space suit stations, control rooms, etc.)
-1 main "Fuel Storage Center", which powers the station, and can re-fuel up any docked up spacecraft (the fuel source can also be re-filled itself by re-fueling spacecraft)
-1 main solar light power center (although there will always be fuel in the storage center, this solar power chamber will significantly lessen the fuel consumption. The solar power can also provide enough power to provide neccessaties for astronaughts living on the station, i.e. proper sewage, cooking, lights, and other basic living features can remain powered by this solar system even if the oil is gone)
-enough facilities to house up to 100 astronaughts, although it may be a tight fit (realistically, it can house 50, but heay...)
-contains 2 satelite "light retrieval" spacecraft, made to sit in the hangar (special on-board docks) of the station and has the ability to retrive sattelites, slow moving asteroids, or even damaged space ships (alhtough it cannot fly far, and definately cannot survive a flight down back to Earth
-8 cylinder missile launch weapon system, the station's only armament. It was designed only for extreme issues. The primary function of the space station is research and all other peacetime activities, but nobody quite knows what the future holds. If in the future, if space ships are capable of firing missiles, the station needs some sort of defence. The 8 missile tubes will be filled with specialy fitted Patriot missiles, capable of locking onto targets and completely annhilating them.
-N.T. Esuatu Supercomputer (a recent developement in the UES, this supercomputer calcuates almost everything that a space station needs i.e. plots courses, calculates orbit, finds space locations, etc.)
-The Backerbloc Air UES Radio Code (BARC) is a system that allows you to use the station only if you know the code, which is a incredibly complex code of radio signals, recognized by the space station's supercomputers. The code may be changed at will periodically. The chances of guessing the code are about 1/1,000,000,000,000. So, the station can only be accessed (wether it be opening the bathroom door or firing the ship's missiles) if you have the code, which will be given to all members of the newly formed International League of Space Research and Development (Project I.L.S.R.D.), the group of nations who participate in the building of the station.

So, anybody wanna help?

Aerospace Logistics is interested in space development, and would be ready to participate. But... Project ISRAEL? We are afraid it might deter many people with counter-zionist attitude. Besides that, Vault 10 has deliberately destroyed tracks of citizens' nationality, so we won't be able to choose appropriate ones.

Comment from the Vault 10 XII JMC:
While it is certain that some circles may still research and debate on whether there is life outside Israel, one of our scientists has recently presented a solid proof, in form of several CDs all named "Live in Israel", and we all have agreed that these invitations mean there must be someone outside.

Yes. ISRAEL wasn't even purposeful actually. I thought it might be interesting, but I suppose you are infact right. I will change it. As for your nationality destruction... what kind of sick people are you??? Nationality leading to nationalism is one of the things a nation's people should value most! How do you expect them to be proud of there own governmnet if they can't even be proud of there heritage?!?!?!? Whatever, but may I also ask what Vault 10 is? A giant vault where your people are locked away, or perhaps a giant vault where the people's records of there nationality are locked away to the masses?

A huge underground Vault created to withstand the nuclear war, built below a nuclear weapons production complex, which employed many thousands of people from all over the world. As it was expected, the surface got struck, and, years after the war, the doors of the Vault have opened and the citizens have carefully started to rediscover the surface. Intense radiation, struggle of rebuilding their favorite business, nuclear weapons manufacturing, heavy mutations, progress of genetic engineering and cybernetics made citizens of Vault 10 one of the most cynical in the world.
Vault 10 companies play a large role in producing a number of the most offensive and intolerable shows like Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things, terms "insult" and "cenzorship" are unheard of, genes are considered but pieces of open-source software, religion is a topic for mockery, and the people are proud of that.

Yes, very interesting indeed. Well, with all of your V series rockets, perhaps you would like to make the rocket platforms for the new space station? If you are still interested, that is.

Of course. As the new V-9 is to enter the production, we have ten V-9P prototype/test vehicles, which can carry the materials to the orbit. Due to their not too reliable nature they are best for relatively inexpensive constructions and supplies of food, water, air and other resources. The only issue is that some territory is needed where risks are not high; unfortunately, Vault 10 ecology policies prohibit the tests, and changing them would take a lot of time. Lifetime of V-9P is hard to evaluate, but we can handle all the consequent launches with full-scale V-9 which will be built after the technology is perfected with V-9.

Besides that, we can provide 20 V-7 as 99.75% reliable transports for lighter loads, up to 25 tonnes practical.

Ok, very good. Building is beginning. It is expected to be completed within 10 NS years (about 10 days). We thank you for your very generous donation, and yes, you may use it. Also, you may be interested in registering all your space units with the International Space Station. I hope to make this Space Program more than a station.

IC: Astronaught Captain Terence Dean was in his all suited up, and holding a small wrench, attempting to screw the fuel compartment base onto the rest of the structure. He was attached to a long cord, which was in turn attached to the space ship that brought him and his 5 man crew, The HMS Fox. "That's it, nice and easy...," said Flight Commander Richard Yetsin from a window inside the shuttle. "As soon as you screw this one in, you'll switch with Joe." Dean clicked his radio headset, "copy that, Rich." He had just finished screwing on the base, and now he had to ease it back until it clicked into position. "Almost done," said Dean. Bing! Yetsin yelled in confusion, "what happened Dean, you all right?" "Yeah... this is weird... the snap mechanism isn't fitting into place, it's making all sorts of strange noises...," said Dean. Then Yetsin saw it. Out of the attachement mechanism, a rod had losened and was slowly snapping out of place. Yetsin screamed, "Dean, get out of there, the rod's snapping!" It was too late. Dean moved, but his rocket boosters on his suit moved quite slowly. The rod snapped finaly, and after another loud Twang!, the mechanism base swung around and smashed Dean's helmet, creating all sorts of hissiong sounds. "DEAN, ARE YOU OK???," yelled Yetsin. There was no answer. Yetsin yelled, "Joe, get your suit on!" He then pushed the button labeled, "contact mission command, Edland Heights UESSF." "Mission command, we have a emergency..." Within an hour, the swinging rod was stopped, and Dean's body recovered. He was dead. The station had claimed it's first life.

OOC: I just posted this because I figured constructing a massive station like this one would probably have atleast a few accidents, so in this case, a life was claimed.

We are glad to join the coalition building this station. Following the tragic incident that claimed the life of Capt. Dean, our investigators have pinpointed the flaw that caused it, and Wink Aerospace, our leading manufacturer, has prepared a replacement module, funded with 2.5 billion coulombs from Parliament and compatible with the Vault launch specifications sent to my office. We require only the coordinates of a Vault launch site in order to deliver it to the station for assembly by a Lower Columbian crew.

Also, the government-affiliated (but currently not owned) Mirage Heavy Industries Corporation has a proposal to make, which I have attached with this e-mail.

--------

Mirage Heavy Industries

Greetings! Numerous experts often mutter about an asteroid hitting earth. Now, we have no way to of confirm this but wanting to be safe rather than sorry, for the sake of the earth, we have proposed an advanced anti-asteroid weapon for mounting on the spacecraft.

SCM-100 Anti-Asteroid Cruise Missile

Weight: 1,750 kg on earth
Diameter: 50cm
Length: 7m
Price: $1,750,000

The SCM-100 is a cruise missile designed for the sole purpose of re-directing an asteroid away from earth, it is not at all designed to vaporize it. We have not yet developed plans for a specialized launcher (however testing shows that it may be launched from a tube); however plans and testing for the SCM-100 are nearly complete and may be put into production as of now. It uses the same propulsion system that propels rockets into space. It is fitted with a camera and a receiver, and an astronaut actually pilots the missile from a distance, ensuring almost a guaranteed hit. Fitted with 600 KG of explosives, which may sound impressive but really not, around 20 cruise missiles will be needed to redirect an average-size asteroid away from the earth. The missiles cannot be used to attack earth targets, as they vaporize in the atmosphere since they have no heat protection, so you should not worry about these missiles being used for war.

Mirage Heavy Industries shall donate 40 cruise missiles (They do not have to be transported up at the same time, of course) and 40 launching tubes free of charge, the Oslean government and our Corporation will fund the creation of these armaments. Again, we reiterate, these missiles cannot be used for war and they are designed for the sole purpose of asteroid redirecting, so please consider our offer.
