The Sentient War (Open)

A golden morning sun crept over the trees, the snow falling softly as the cold breeze frizzled upon the heads of the soldiers, who marched and walked the long way towards their destination, their fur coats billowing and their rifles in a steely black as they held the grip of their fingers with utmost diligence. The freshly fallen snow was pressed down upon the frozen dirt ground, treads visible as tanks moved from the northern sector to the south, the mountains blocking their ways as the soldiers continued to move, their breath frosty and their foggy emissions of their tongues warming up the air around them. Small heat lamps were brought out, plugged into tiny trucks around them, their hands placed near the crackling source of heat as they looked at the small between them. “There lies Nakros Sentiauhk.” They claimed, sighing as they lifted their rifles, seeing the small contingent of sable silver men walking along the snow, their coats crisp and their pistols on their ends, long, large trucks behind them as the lights were turned off and the engines shut.

These two officers, conversing, walked around in circles, as the small group of soldiers stood in a neat, organized line. One of them, a bawdy officer with a slightly bulging face and a throbbing chin line, looked with amusement at another officer, his eyes watery and his nose a small slither of flesh upon his thin skinned face. They both walked in circles, chattering amongst themselves as their soldiers looked in anticipation. “The order is given for the retaliation?” The first officer asked the second one, as the second one nodded.

“Yeah, we just need to make sure that they’re not aware. If they are, we can’t fire since it would be simply raining shrapnel.” The second officer reasoned, as the first one nodded appreciatively.

“Sadly the mainland does not want to assist us.” The first officer said sadly, referring to Jenrak and it’s Temsplace power. For these men were not Jenrakians – they were Sentiauhk, men and soldiers who fought under the crown of Jenrak – they were one of the many cultures the Jenrakians have taken under their wing. For in the poorest of lands, Jenrak comes with promises of wealth, safety, and stability. But in return, complete loyalty and control was to be turned to the Jenrakian crowns in the Jenrakian mainland. While they did so prosper respectively, that these poorest of lands become prosperous and wealthy cities, each with militaries pertaining to themselves, far different from their Jenrakian masters.

Yet they favour was their bane, as they regularly went to war to impress the Jenrakians in hopes of gaining stronger ties, in hopes of becoming more wealthy, more prosperous, to increase their coffers with shinier gold. Yet this was different, something was odd. They were not trying to impress Jenrak. They were trying to punish another rival, another brother city. This was completely aside from their ancient father. This was a vengeance amongst brothers. For beyond the pass lies the gateway to the lands of the city of Nakros Heidha, a city of equal prosperity, a city that developed its own military. Yet why were these men here?

As the first officer nodded, a jettison of flames and noise crackled in the once chilly morning air, a blast of hot gust warming them all, as the small flicker of lights from the trucks’ trunks emitted large rockets that splattered and sprayed into the air, breaking into segments as they swayed as depths of locusts into the sky, their trails sliding towards the pass, disappearing as a sea of screams and rumbling followed, a fiery blossom of flames slightly visible beneath the tall hills of the tiny pass.

Nakros Heidha rose every day and fell every night, as if the sun and the moon held respective domains over the city, but when the fist of the sun rose that morning, a small swarm of missiles blasted into the helm of the city’s tallest skyscrapers, a shower of glass and hellfire blazing down unto the streets as the people had bustled out to work. Destruction and chaos lit up in a fiery devilish blow as they screamed, another swarm tearing apart a school and a nearby factory, a shockwave sent throughout the city as the people were flung apart and their blood splattered against the wind. As their screams fell onto deaf ears, the small sector of that city was levelled, before the mayor reacted.

People of the World
We have been attacked by the city of Nakros Sentiauhk! We call for anybody wishing to help to send forces to assist us immediately! The Jenrakians refused to have sent reinforcements, and now we need to ask for help from others. Please, I implore you, help us live, help us fight back!

A counterattack was necessary, but why did that attack begin in the first place?

Fire lit up the sky along the disc of flames that was the sun. Enemy rockets bombarded the tall structural fingers of the city as Nakros Heidha built its forces together as they placed themselves along the edge, awaiting the second enemy bombardment. Silence, there was nothing. Still, silence reigned his empire across the snowy landscape, the streets filled with glass and flames and stones and snow and blood. Still, it was silence, as the soldiers rushed through the edges of Nakros Heidha, breaching towards the plains as they heard another blast of enemy rocket fire bursting through the clouds towards the city, another racket of flames bursting smoke into the sky, screaming continuing.

They had to move fast, seeing a small pass within the hills, a tiny glitter of light that sprung up, the soldiers nodding as they rushed through and placed their fingers upon the end, waiting to fire as they rushed upon the snowy embankments. “Take them.” The captain ordered, his rifle blazing with yellow spurts, the lights flashing up as enemy black-tipped soldiers rushed through the sides their guns firing wildly as they encircled the defenders, rocket fire still pounding in the distance.

Skies were darkened, the night fallen upon the snowy dusk as the purple haze of sunset had already given a slight shade of azure upon the magenta blood stains upon the city of Nakros Heidha, the buildings crumbling and the dust like light mists, the people screaming and the sirens heard in the distance, gunfire blasting as the only noise every so often. Still, refugees poured through the stone streets, the magnificent wall upon the northern sector now a frozen, sombre monument to the destruction as the refugees looked in sorrow. From here, one girl, a saddened face upon her stricken blue eyes, her long black hair dirtied as stains of dust were visible as smudges upon her once sleek slivers, her fingers bloodied and her features shadowed by a small burlap hood. She walked along the thin line of people like her – equally desperate, sad, and torn from their homes, as they looked at the rushing group of soldiers, their arms thick and their rifles sleek. They screamed in terror.

The refugees ran farther away from them, the city’s minimal defenders fighting off the small offensive group that plunged, the citizens heartbroken as they watched their children die against the relentless Sentiauhks. Gunfire and pops of light lit up in the misty battlefield, giant statues and pillars of stone fallen against the broken erect forms of Enkur and Ciranaar, the fists of their gods pushing against them.

Still, the Sentiauhks pushed on, their armoured columns blasting through the walls as the technologically advanced infantry tore through the weakened Heidha. Still, from the highest reaches of the small building nearby, she watched, and heard. Thumps were heard downstairs, and they were loud.

OOC: Since I am not actually using Jenrakian military (these Jenrakian city states), the tech will be somewhat PMT, yes.

She whimpered, she cried, as she huddled in the closet, her only place of hiding, the blue eyed girl choking on her tears, the thumping on the doors becoming a smash, the Sentiauhk seeing small feet in the closet, dragging her out, their rifles aimed at her crying face. They snickered amongst themselves. Such a pretty thing, crying. As they undid their belts, she pleaded.

“Please, don’t.” She begged, but they paid no heed towards her, tears running down her face.

She cried the whole time.

“Bring the flames.” The captain ordered, as the enemy soldiers marched through, the Sentiauhk walking along as their steel truncheons and their powerful bodies rippled, their patrols looking for survivors, gunning them down whenever they were found, before a blast of inferno from below crackled the Sentiauhk patrol, talking and gathering information as they trudged through the dust filled streets, awaiting for a sign of life to extinguish it. The flames were large, cumbersome, towering, walls of the devil himself, as the place lit up in an apocalyptic state. The Sentiauhk cried in fright, firing madly as the Heidha snipers picked them off, bullets whizzing through the air.

Small rounds of lead began to sleet past the mist, the soldiers falling, the snipers viewing through heat seeking goggles. The initial napalm trap was effective, as the captain ordered it set up through the outer ring of the city, trying to keep Nakros Heidha safe, the armoured columns still pushing through, the firepower tearing apart the buildings, the rubble falling down in hives. The snipers pulled back, their rifles dipped from the building windows, and out of sight, as they tried to regroup, to escape, yet something shot them from behind. Enemy fire emblazoned from nowhere, steel retribution shattering the air from seemingly nothing, as the snipers cried in pain, bullets into their wounds, but no shooter. As the captain pulled back, as he ran to the safe zone, he was smashed in the jaw, his mouth bleeding, yet he saw nothing. As he laid down on the ground, a shining shape emerged from the mist, a long black rifle aimed at the captain’s head.

Sentiauhk stealth soldiers.

"What is this you bring before me?"
The Consilar-General flipped through an intelligence folder cast upon his desk by one of his aides.

"It's a war sir. War between two client states of Jenrak."

"And is Jenrak taking any part in this?"

"Not as far as we can tell sir. Our HUMINT assets in that region are minimal to non-existent, and as far as we can tell there's been no government statement on it from any party involved.
Oh, no, I forgot. The city under attack has called for assistance."

"So, what do you recommend? Or do you bring this here just to disrupt my work?"

"A rapid deployment sir. One Airborne Brigade, followed by more force if necessary."

"You want to send 1st Airborne into this hellhole?"

"Yes. Part of the humanitarian intervention that gained you so many votes in the last election."

"Gather some more information first. I won't send them in blind. Where is this place? What's the geography like? Locals?"

OOC: Don't want to tread on any toes, so if that one brigade is ok with you...I could use information on where I can bring them in, and what they'll meet when they arrive.

Gunfire still rattled through the streets, pockets of fiery light, shining up the misty outlying edges of Heidha, the Sentiauhk pushing through, the stone armoured columns of the enemy soldiers cutting apart the structures, artillery fire levelling building by building, blocks of Heidha’s glorious city dying in the midst, the hundreds dead within the blast. However, as napalm struck against in defence, the flames came into another fist.

From the seemingly safe city of Sentiauhk, a small group of Heidha aircraft were seen overhead, slightly bulging against the sunlight, before blackish stomachs poured open, bombs dropping down into the chiasmic streets as infernos lit up the air night. Pummelling carpet bombers placed Sentiauhk on the defensive, as the Heidha aircraft stabbed a wave of destruction, fingers of safety creeping up into the sky, the planes amongst the clouds. It was only a second before a blast of noise was heard, followed by a rain of shrapnel that pierced the civilians underneath.

Sentiauhk forces mobilised within the city of Nakros Sentiauhk, preparing for a counterattack to the Heidha backdoor attack. The Heidha geared themselves for the second offensive, and this time, they would not be caught off guard. Meanwhile, in the small abandoned apartment, she sat there, in the corner, crying. She had been stripped of her dignity, though vengeance was a kind gentleman, as the soldiers laid in the closet where she had hid, blood dripping from their pants, their bodies limp, their tongues cut out as the soft fleshy mouth muscles stabbed onto the walls by kitchen knives. On the walls, a message was written.

Kiss, kiss. Kiss and tell.
Pray you, pray you, kiss and tell you.
Kiss, kiss. Kiss and tell.
Pray you, pray you, heaven and hell do.

She stilled cried, amidst the blood dripping from her mouth, her nose, her tears.

OOC: Sure - the Heidha are resorting to urban guerilla warfare to try and drive out the Sentiauhk. The Sentiauhk have deployed stealth soldiers to deal with them. If you plan on dropping your forces near a firefight, expect to be bogged down in a crossfire. However, you will also expect messages of help from both sides if you don't state a specific allegiance.

How do you insert an airborne force into an unknown location?

The obvious answer is, you don't. Initial airborne reconnaissance was followed by covert insertion of reconnaissance teams to ensure the ground was clear.
Following this, teams were helicoptered in to secure preliminary landing sites.
At which point insertion reverted to the classical 'leaping out of a perfectly good aeroplane'.
This was doubtless noticed by the locals, only a few miles away. The plan would continue on schedule until interference occurred. At present that was minimal, so the go-ahead was given.
Initial elements consisted of veteran airborne troopers, parachuting into DZs secured by their comrades. As platoons and then companies linked up, they would begin pushing for the nearest airstrip, permitting reinforcement, resupply and possibly - if necessary - evacuation.
(OOC: Is there a nearby civilian airport or old airfield they could commandeer?)
RoE were at proactive self-defence - no attacking non-combatants; self-defence only until the Brigade has come under attack.
Right now it seemed likely that neither side knew how to respond to the Incognitian presence. Contact was expected from both in due course.

“A new player.” The Sentiauhk commander spoke, his harsh raspy voice behind the metal mask in his stealth suit throbbing, his long specialised rifle in his arms as he walked along the large Sentiauhk camp a group of elite stealth soldiers, looking at him with interest. “We must get the acceptance and assistance of these new men. Only then we can truly drive out the Heidha with the city intact. We must have vengeance.” He ordered, as the soldiers nodded alongside him. As he walked upon the grass, the blades falling magically as he began to become camouflaged, he breathed rashly, the dusty mist of the camp flowing alongside his breath.

“Send emissaries. We must maintain pact with the Ithrimm. Send word to Nakradriunn about the growing problems we may face if they are hostile.” The commander said coolly.

“A possible ally.” The captain said, his rifle reloaded as he waited for the quiet steps of the enemy, but heard none, as he nodded to himself. Beside him, his surveyor looked with beady eyes, as the Captain gave the good-to-go. “We need their assistance in driving the Sentiauhk out of this city. Too many have died.” He said, hurried, as the surveyor rose, and his tiny feet paced with frank speed through the dusts.

Ashes began to fall like snow amongst the baleful grey mists.

At the location where the foreign teams were spotted, 4 buggies began to rush towards there, followed by two armoured tanks and a small car carrying a crisp suited man with a small wooden cane atop a thin handlebar moustache. The Sentiauhk were coming for negotiations and alliances.

However, an open transmission was also sent. “The Heidha need your help. Our parents have betrayed us.”

The best airport site had been selected, and advanced parties were even now securing the deserted field, clearing out enough space to bring in cargo aircraft.

As soon as word of this went home, planes that had been standing by began procedures for take off, to bring in the bulk of the brigade.

The advance party that met the Sentiauhk was aware of their coming from some distance away, obviously. As such most of the men took cover in firing positions covering a clearing.
The remainder stood in the clearing, gathered near their Captain. The said Captain stood a little way in front, and as the slightly bizarre party arrived, he waited for them to speak first. He knew one thing above all others. If they were truly to have an effect here, they had to land the brigade before openly aligning with either side; otherwise their small deployment in theatre could be wiped out, the airport they had painstakingly cleared destroyed, and the whole operation turn into an embarrassing waste of lives.

The stealth commander was not a kind man, he was not a pretty young man of impeccable flesh, of intricate thoughts within a beautiful shell - he was coarse, harsh and his voice was a creepy, metallic throb in a voiced machine. He was in a small box of a car, protected by a series of elite stealth soldiers, their breaths heard as they rasped, sitting beside him. He nodded as they approached the abandoned airport. It seemed to be a small force, though the Commander knew better - more would come.

As they got out, the commander, in his sable silver armor and his shivering azure shades, took his rifle upon his back, and walked like a skeletal monster towards them, his soldiers following suit as the buggies died in their roaring engine noise. "Who are you?" He asked rashly, standing still, his guards behind him.

"Sir, have you recieved the reports? Should we advance the 32nd Battalion to Jenrak?" asked General Ishiyama to Emperor Asano. "We see many points in doing so. Our VR recruits can recieve field training and we can gain some prestige in the UN for humanitarian aide. The 18th Cybernetics division has began preparation 20 hours ago. If you would like, we can deploy a SpecOps groups to Jenrak, It is your choice sir." Ishiyama curtly and impatiently asked the monarch.

"General, I knew that the marines would come to me, asking to deploy. I have prepared an answer.", spoke Asano as he was looking at a multitude of reports on the country's status, "Yes, send in the 18nd Cybernetics division along with an intitial air surveilence of the battle area. Understand general?" he said, signing a document and swiftly handing it to him. "Yes sir!" Ishiyama exclaimed.

OOC: Am I interrupting anything? If I am, sorry.

Supply trucks rushed through the snowy pine-covered forests, as small cars whizzed their way up into the cavernous mountain stronghold on the edge of the city of Nakros Sentiauhk. They whispered within their metal cages, the suppliers blasting their cargo upon the snow. "More ammunition?" One of them asked, a burly, rugged man with a short stub of a beard and massive forearms, as his partner nodded.

"This war is quite a doozy." The second man said mockingly.

From the airport, the Sentiauhk Commander looked at the Incognitian force. He nodded to himself, as he always did. "I am Askabrath, Commander of the Sentiauhk anti-guerrilla forces. I am a stealth soldier." He said respectively.

Captain Naples was a little surprised that he had made contact with someone so senior, rather than a mere patrol commander.

"Perhaps you can explain to me then, what this war is all about. Why you're fighting?
Oh, and of course, whether you intend to interfere with our deployment here."

"It is a long tale, and we have little time to tell it. However, to help you in understanding, know that the Heidha mayor had a son - his name was Alamann. Alamann went to diplomatic meeting between the cities, there he met the daughter of our mayor, her name was Cecily. Cecily was kidnapped by Alamann, and Alamann stripped the fair girl of her pride. We now seek vengeance by bringing Alamann to justice, and the Heidha who defend him will not live in our crusade of vengeance." The stealth commander said quickly.

"Assistance is graciously helpful, but if you plan on not helping us, do not get in our way."

"You realise we will need some form of backing for this story? We can't just take your word for it...
And also we would question the idea of razing a city and destroying its inhabitants for one slight, however grievous.
However, if you are truly the wronged party, that will change matters. I will have to pass this up the chain of command, and they will have to look for corroborating information."

"Have you ever wondered why Jenrak has not responded? Our homeland does not want to take sides in a war of vengeance. If we were doing wrong, and not wronged, then they would help the Heidha defend their city. But alas, we are innocent."
