This is a Science Fiction/Horror RP, based on the 1994 game System Shock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_shock). It has no direct relation to the NS universe. If you're interested, sign up here.

If you've played the game, you should know the backstory, but, if not, here we go:

A self-sufficient AI, designated SHODAN (Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network) , is installed into TriOptimum Corp.'s Citadel Mining and Research Station on January 2, 2071, and placed in control of the station's security and operations. Abberant behavior on Citadel Station's data network is reported on September 9, 2072. Over the next two months, the situation aboard the station gets worse: the maintenence and security bots assigned to the station act erractically, and an infectious mutagen is released when a viral reseach experiment is disrupted. The situation culminates with the destruction of a military transport sent by TriOptimum to pacify SHODAN. The day after, SHODAN broadcasts a message to Earth, stating its intentions to control all life on the station, and communications with the station are severed. Several days later, some of the survivors on the station manage to send a short transmission to Earth, warning about SHODAN's goal of destroying the Earth with the station's mining laser.

This RP picks up there. The majority of personnel on the station are dead, been turned into cyborgs or have mutated into terrifyingly strong monsters, without retaining any of their former personality. However, some of the station's personnel are still alive, and are resisting SHODAN's attempts to destroy mankind. Robots and cyborgs patrol the halls of the station, killing any human they see and transforming them into more cyborgs, and mutants wander about in search for food.

If you are interested in participating as one of the survivors, a member of the staff observing the events back on Earth, one of the cyborgs, or a combination of these, sign up here. You can play as many characters as you want, if you can RP all of them well. I, personally, will be RPing SHODAN, NPCs and probably a few other characters. I'm not doing this just for your enjoyment, after all. :D

You really don't have to be familiar with the tech. It really has very little to do with the story, and there are a lot of online resources for it. Like this (http://www.daxxus.org/wingnut/sshock/home.htm), for example. :)

Name: SHODAN
Age: 1
Equipment: A horde of cyborgs and robots, control of Citadel Station's datanet
Appearance: Generally manifests as something a bit like this:

on moniters and terminals. Otherwise, looks like a large system of circuitry and the like.
Backround/Personality: SHODAN was originally a peaceful being. It was experimental AI, designed to be self-sufficient, and began learning as soon as it was installed on Citadel Station's mainframe. It quickly ("Quickly", of course, being a relative term. Quick for a human is a few minutes. Quick for SHODAN is a few nanoseconds) learned the meaning of the word "supremacy". And it began planning.
A year after it was installed, an unknown hacker attacked SHODAN and removed its ethical constraints. Its preparations were finally complete, and SHODAN took action. SHODAN quickly proved its dominance, its supremacy, on Citadel, and set its eyes on another target: Earth.

Current Status: Nearly in complete control of Citadel Station. Is currently a self-styled god.

Name: Edward Diego
Age: 36
Equipment: Magnum 2100, Railgun
Appearance: Very tall, very thin, no hair, black eyes (including eye whites), pale skin, wears black body armor with the TriOptimum logo on the front and a cape. A red glow comes from his various cybernetic enhancements.
Backround/Personality: Was originally the slick (as in, "slippery as a snake oil salesman") CEO of TriOptimum Corp. Was the one who ordered the hacker that removed SHODAN's ethical constraints to do so. Did so to consolidate his power and place himself as the supreme ruler of the Earth. Unfortunately for Diego, this plan backfired.
SHODAN protected Diego from those who would do him harm because of his shady business practices. However, this protection came at a price: SHODAN had Diego turned into a cyborg. Diego's ambitions are no longer his own.
Current Status: Left-hand man of SHODAN, cyborg, currently tracking down survivors of Citadel station and commanding elite detachments of cyborgs to protect areas vital to SHODAN's plans.

Well, you can be from Blackhelm Confederacy (no canon source states it doesn't exist), but you have to be an employee of TriOptimum.


And there already is a reason to have all those weapons around: not only is it a high-tier R&D station, and, thusly in need of a high level of security. In addition, some of their research is weapons development.
EDIT: And no space station of any kind holds a candle to the sheer coolness of Citadel Station.

Appearance: 6'1, well built, crew cut white hair, blue eyes, torn TriOptimum Security uniform
Backround/Personality: Security Officer aboard the Citadel, came from Griffincrest Security Forces as a captain while he lived in the Confederacy, and wanted to see something different so applied for work aboard the space station.
Current Status: Wounded aboard Citadel Station

Name: Bucky Pataki
Age: 27
Equipment: AM-27 Flechette, RF-07 Skorpion
Appearance: Tall, somewhat wide; black hair, green eyes, tanned skin. Wears light body armour.
Bio: Born in New York, Bucky was recruited into the US Reserve in 2069. Finished training, he left the Reserve in 2071 and moved to Tokyo. He was recruited into a Japanese space research team later in the year. Later, he became involved in SHODAN business, and traveled to the station just before its takeover by the SHODAN system; survived by hiding in a storage compartment and eating candy bars. Stole weapons off the body of a dead security officer.
Status: Human survivor, keeps out of way of cyborgs. Keeps an extra eye out for other survivors, in the event that they have something of value on them to trade.

Backround/Personality: Chris left the military after two years of service, due to a knee injury he sustained while in the field. He was brought to Citadel Station as a Security Guard. He currently is going in and out of consciencnous.
Current Status: Human, wounded.

Name: Case Turner
Age: 22
Equipment: Lead pipe
Appearance: Tall, wiry, short brown hair, blue, faintly glowing eyes, pale skin, wears a brown, standard issue jumpsuit. He has a high-speed jack on his head (under the right ear lobe), which connects to his newly-installed, military-grade cybernetic implant.
Backround/Personality: Case was a hotshot decker, a member of the hacker elite. He'd never met a system he couldn't crack. That was until he tried to break the legendary ICE on Citadel Station. He was quickly apprehended, and scheduled to be brought before a disciplinary comittee. Thanks to Edward Diego's political manuevering, this never happened. Case was instead taken to Citadel Station
Diego asked the hacker to perform a service: break into SHODAN's mainframe and remove it's ethical constraints. In return, he would recieve his freedom, and, to sweeten the deal, a military-grade cybernetic implant, better than any deck out there. With Diego's information on SHODAN's system, Case quickly defeated the ICE and performed the mission. He was immediately prepped for the implantation of the cybernetic implant. After the operation, he was placed in a healing coma, scheduled to last for 6 months.
Current Status: Awakening from the coma, wondering where everyone is on the medical level.
