The Middle-Eastern Theatre (WW3)

The Nemmar IFV was just about the most heavily armoured IFV in service. It was based closely on the hull of the Merkava series, which was no slouch in the pretection department. And this abnormally large hull gave ample space for weapons. The 60mm internal mortar added a new item to an infantry squad's box of tricks: indirect fire, while the 40mm cannon was not to be scoffed at.

The man at the hatch was, unmistakably, a Bedouin. To anyone who knew the status of ethnic minorities in the IDF, that meant he was a member of the Desert Recon Battalion. In the distance, an M113 was visible. Replaced by the Nemmar in most units of Isreal's Northern and Southern commands, Central command, the reserves, and the Magav all used the vehicle extensively, often upgunned with such goodies as a 60mm HVM turret for close support.

They were rumbling down a rugged track in the Israeli-controlled Golan heights, watching for the expected Syrian attack. Watching and waiting...

INS Hanit leapt gracefully through the waters of the Mediteranian, throwing up a pure white bow-wave that came close to lapping over the boat's sides. Behind it, a long trail of cyan slowly faded back into deep sea blue. It was a Sa'ar 5.5 missile boat, the Isreali Sea Corps newest weapon, only two of which were in service. Hanit, an upgraded and refitted Sa'ar 5, was serving as the flagship of a squadron which also contained the Sa'ar 5s Eilat and Lahav and the submarine Tekumah.

They were making all possible speed for international waters just off the Syrian west coast. To the south, much of the Sea Corps was preparing to sail. In the event of war, they, with the assistance of the US 5th fleet, would strangle Syrian sea trade and naval operations while the troops in the Golan heights tore into Syria and the Iraqi-American forces to the east would strike and catch them thoroughly off balance, ending Syrian militarism once and for all.

Well, that was the plan. You know that old phrase about plans and contact with the enemy...

The Pentagon, 09:45

President Frist entered the Pentagon's briefing room, already worn from going through the Pacific theater strategies, when the Middle East had become yet again a priority.

"What's the scoop now, everyone?" Frist asked as he walked in.
"Israel-Syrian tensions are firing up again," Defense Secretary Darrent Polis reported briskly.
"As they never do," Frist sarcastically replied. "What're Israeli sentiments?"
"They ain't gonna be fucked with."
"Good. Who's in the Mediterranean?"
"Yorktown and Enterprise as of right now, and Stennis is in the Red Sea. Back at home for atlantic fleet, we've got Roosevelt, Truman, Reagan, and Eisenhower, with reserves in the Pacific at Vinson, Saratoga, Nimitz, and Lincoln. Wash and Bush are already rendevousing at Guam to bolster Taiwan."
"Excellent, those three should be good for now with the sub compliments of Bahrain. Mobilize Ticonderoga's SAG near Morroco to redevous with Enterprise and Yorktown and move them all in near Israel to bolster the IDF's naval forces."

CVX 2 Yorktown, Mediterranean Sea, 14:20

Captain Timothy Bell of the two-year old Yorktown CVX carrier was happy with his post. He liked action, and action was on its way in the turbulent Mediterranean. The CVX carrier was an even better gift-the newest carrier of the CVX program that had begun with Saratoga, the Yorktown had a glittering compliment of F/A-35 Lightning IIs, to compliment a standard TACAIR wing. A very nice addition. Then the battle group was also formidable, a large compliment of missle frigates for protection in the deadly Mediterranean.

"Sir," his XO, Kuali Abdumajad, a native Liberian, stepped up, solemnly. The man was always solemn in Bell's eyes.
"What's new, XO?" Bell replied cheerfully.
"CINCOMPALT reports that Ticonderoga's SAG is on its way. We are to rendevous, than meet with Enterprise to head full speed towards Israeli coast for defense of Israel against potential Syrian aggression."
"Thanks for the heads-up, will be done."

(Televised and radio broadcast by the new Khalif)
It is time for all those loyal to their faith to retake the sacred sites. We must regain control of the holy city of jerusalem where the prophet ascended. we must stop these foreignors from disrupting our lives and destroying our people. Iraqis, Stand up in arms against those who try to control your destiny. Don't let the sins of past rulers keep you from asserting the rights that your controlers claim to have given to you if you are truly a democracy, a ruling of people you must stand up and do so. The time for war is growing nigh. My brothers and sisters, please hear my call...
(ooc) this can't do nothing in countries where muslims reside. it might not do much, but in places like iraq i doubt that

"Well, I should probably have expected this."

Zacharia grimaced as the broadcast continued.

"Well, I don't know what we can do about Iraq, Rav Aluf, but this could potentially re-ignite the Lebanese conflict. From there it's only one more step to a two-front war, and that's not something anyone wants. We need Central intact and mobile. As to Jerusalem itself... we have a peace treaty with Jordan. Hopefully we can persuade the government to co-operate with a counter-insurgency. The same goes for Egypt. And Syria... does it make any differance? Now, I need a speech, and I need it fast."

"IDF Sea Corps HQ to US Battelgroup Ticondera, glad to have you have with us. Given that we've never operated a carrier force, you'll be maintaining tactical control during coming operations. No strategic orders yet."

Zacharia adjusted his tie and took the mental equivelant of a deep breath as the speach reader before him lit up.

"People of the Middle-East, I appeal to you not as Jews, nor Muslim, Christian or followers of whatever God you choose to worship. I appeal to you as fellow human beings. Let us rember that the same blood flows in the veins of a Jewish Isreali and a Muslim Palestinian.

"We share fundamental rights, and one of those is the right to life. A peaceful and unarmed man in Jerusalem does not rob you of any Human right. The presence of a force of liberators trying to restore your country to greatness does not violate any of the laws that Yahweh or Allah or our fellow human beings have laid down for our safety and prosperity. Do not let the rash actions of one Isreali or one American reflect on the good intentions of our countries. We do not judge you by the actions of the leaders that incite you to murder your fellow men and women! Muslims of the Middle-East, treat us as equal citizens of the Holy City and so shall we, but as Prime Minister of Isreal, I will not hesitate to any attack on my country, and I will not waver from the use of lethal force!

"Let this be a warning to those who would have war. We shall play along, and we shall leave yor cities in ruins."

Re: a truce
As things stand we both have other fish to fry, so we suggest we both declare a un official truce between us, and leave each other alone, at least for the duration of the current conflict.
Will be waiting your reply.

to israel as a whole
since the beginning we have had no conflict with people of the book, whether one follows judaism, catholocism, or islam is of no concern to us. What is of concern is the mistreatment of our people. There is always conflict in the holy city, and we as believers in the will of the one god must put an end to this and return it to peace. It is not the people that we detest, but the matter in which they treat those of my faith, the way that the government does nothing to stop these atrocities. Look back through history. The catholics invaded this land and razed the city. They desecrated our lands, both jewish and islamic. Look to the holocaust in Germany. The ones who thought up the killing were killed, but the ones who performed these atrocities were let live. This is the inequality that we seek to destroy. We have no quarrel with your government unless you uphold the rights of those who have wronged you. The holy land is not all the jews held that was taken from them. You were once prominent in all of europe and we held no quarrel with you. Why not take back your standing in mainland europe, why not take vengeance on those of the so called greater states who killed your people by the thousands. The ones who forced you into the ghettos of every town and village since the fall of the roman empire. These are the same ones who threw us out of the holy city and put you in our place, so it is understandable if you feel an obligation to your enemies. Why do we not share this city as equals and regain our honour together. Why do we not become a unified front against the force of the west. If we work together, people who share not only the book, but the fate given to us by European arrogance, we can achieve great things. We fight each other now and in the past, why don't we show those others what we have learned of war because of this.

We have no reason to fight. Eventually, we must all learn to share this Holy Land.

since the beginning we have had no conflict with people of the book, whether one follows judaism, catholocism, or islam is of no concern to us. What is of concern is the mistreatment of our people. There is always conflict in the holy city, and we as believers in the will of the one god must put an end to this and return it to peace.

A commendable sentiment, but some of us need to learn to follow it. Some of those people are Jews, but most are Muslims. And if their leadership would incite Muslims to do this, that leadership evidantly has no wish for peace.

It is not the people that we detest, but the matter in which they treat those of my faith, the way that the government does nothing to stop these atrocities.

We have trials. The guilty are punished. This is not something many Palestinians can boast acces to.

Look back through history. The catholics invaded this land and razed the city. They desecrated our lands, both jewish and islamic. Look to the holocaust in Germany. The ones who thought up the killing were killed, but the ones who performed these atrocities were let live. This is the inequality that we seek to destroy.

A holocaust analogy is inappropiate. A few men who, through emotional stress or similar, commit crimes against those in their custody are a world distant from a huge, carefully organised government sanctioned and systematic slaughter of innocents.

Why not hate every German for an insane forefather? Why not hold the mistakes of their ancestors against every Frenchman and Briton and Spaniard and Pole? Because we wish for peace, that is why!

These are the same ones who threw us out of the holy city and put you in our place, so it is understandable if you feel an obligation to your enemies. Why do we not share this city as equals and regain our honour together.

As religiouns, we can. Come to Isreal. You may not be well trusted at first, but there are no murderous Jewish conspirotors waiting to hang you in pig skins. We have mosques in Tel Aviv.

Why do we not become a unified front against the force of the west. If we work together, people who share not only the book, but the fate given to us by European arrogance, we can achieve great things. We fight each other now and in the past, why don't we show those others what we have learned of war because of this.

A unified front against the bigoted rulers and the fearful populace who let themselves become sheep? A unified front against all the wrongs in history? That would be a good thing. But must we let history reflect on those who live now?

you speak of peace with us, yet you arm yourselves so readily. you throw my words back in my face as if they were filth. you yourself seem to wish for this conflict between our peoples to continue.

you said this. and yet you don't apply this sentiment to us who you believe to be your enemy. is this not holding a double standard to us and the europeans? why not work to make your land a neutral ground similar to switzerland in all the old wars. why not make the holy city the new paris. if you truly want peace then tell this to the world instead of working to destroy it through threats and verbal dishonesty.
make up your mind in this matter and inform the world as a whole of your plans. i will not be the first to attack you. i will send ambassadors to your government though in the hopes that others will soon join them.

Debate is not throwing words back, it is countering them. If you can't stomach it, don't engage in it.

And yet you don't apply this sentiment to us who you believe to be your enemy. is this not holding a double standard to us and the europeans?

Men under stress very seldom scream religious slogans as they detonate suicide bombs. The death of 3000 in a cunningly executed attack on primarily civilian target is not the work of one shell-shocked private.

why not work to make your land a neutral ground similar to switzerland in all the old wars. why not make the holy city the new paris. if you truly want peace then tell this to the world instead of working to destroy it through threats and verbal dishonesty.

We've told the world once and we shall tell them again: peace is our ultimate objective. A Middle-East in which we can all co-exist. But there are people out there who wish to murder us for the sin of being Jewish. People who will think no more of Israeli neutlarity than the Germans of old thought of Belgian neutrality. And so we must stand against those who would trample the teachings of your prophet with lies, oppression, and war. And we must be prepared to fight them to the dying breath and show them that there are still men, Jew and Muslim and Christian and whatever else, who are prepared to fight for us not because we are Jewish or better equipped or patrons od because we fight for freedom!

I am glad you will not rashly strike us, but I will not remove troops from the Golan heights. They are freedoms first line.
