Hello all you fellow rpers here at NS. I am Telros, as some of you may know of me. I have read a couple threads about FT and how easy it is to wank and all without rules. So, before I decided to go about with the new nation I have devised, I thought I would post it here, for your eyes. Critiquing is HEAVILY suggested and all kinds of comments.
Also, I do not mind people arguing in here, consider it a Jack of Trades thread of sorts. Anyways, heres the info:

History:
The history of the Grand Telrosian Republic is long and glorious. In the ages long ago, from whence the great race of Telros came from and conquered, making the Republic, first began their society. This was year 0 AC(after creation). Many tribes appeared and died, under the harsh conditions of living at the time. By 44 AC, the tribes had reached medieval status, and three kingdoms had arisen. The Dominion of Azaranthia, the Kavarkian Empire and the Telrosian Kingdom. Once they had managed to gather a sufficient powerbase, they entered a long series of conflicts that came to be known as the Foundation Wars, as it set into place the building blocks for the rise of the Telrosian Republic.
After the wars were over, which lasted until around 67 AC, they backed off, rebuilding and manuvering for position. War has always been a driving force for technology, invention and creativity, so this one was no different. The technology had been pushed ahead so far, they now had ships with which to cross the seas. All three factions did so quickly and without abandon, trying to keep the other two from gaining a significant edge. Many skirmishes occurred during this era, which came to be known as the Era of Discovery. It was during this period, lasting from 67 AC to 85 AC, that artists, writers and inventors really had their golden age, as various techniques from science, art and books flooded the world, helped by the powerful navies of the world to spread their message. This age of Discovery ended with the truce between the Dominion of Azaranthia and the Telrosian Kingdom, and their combined invasion and subsequent destruction of the Kavarken Empire, in the year 98 AC. The two kingdoms, having become bloated and large, struggled to hold onto their territories and build up for a final conflict against each other. The Telrosian Kingdom had the advantage as it had become a world power ever since the Era of Discovery. Finally, in 126 AC, the Dark War began, as both sides unleashed all their might against each other. At this point, machine guns, shells, tanks and the like were being used. Massive airstrikes wiped out entire counties of people and life, armies were killed in a single day and the quality of life plummeted. Each nation was driven to the brink but, the Telrosian Kingdom came ahead with it's bigger stockpile of men, material, resources and determination.
However, this is not to say that their troubles were over. After a long siege of the Azaranthian capital that ended in 134 AC with it's razing to the ground, the generals returned with the Telrosian, war-weary armies, only to find the Kingdom in chaos. The horror and strain of the war had caused various revolutionary groups to pop up. One advocated total control of the nation by the peasant class, a commune of sorts, others advocated a democratic republic and another wanted to bring about a fierce dictatorship, even worse than the monarchy currently in power. These three factions, and the loyalist faction of the king were locked in a deadly battle for supremacy. The general had the power to change history, as the factions were in a stalemate. Fortunately, he leaned towards the democratic side, and he threw his cards in with the republicans. Within a month, all the other forces were defeated and were called together to a Council in the ruined capital city. There, the king signed away the government and went into exile, and the other two factions promised to not revolt ever again, in return for a say in the government. The republicans, getting what they wanted, agreed to it and nominated the general as the first Archon. Moving quickly upon being elected, he used the army to secure the kingdom and had a constitution written up, and the new political system worked out. The people would elect a council who would then elect the new Archon. The beginnings for three new political parties then appeared: the dictator faction became an expansionist, war-mongering party, the worker party became the isolationist party, focused on internal affairs and the people, and the final one was a social plan party, focused on bettering the nation and keeping the people happy.
Once the Archon died in 167 AC, the newly elected Council voted in the first official Archon, Lord Tidus. And henceforth, the first act he made upon entering office was to rename the Telrosian Kingdom into the Telrosian Republic. He also established the Parliament and the practice of having a Cabinet to aid him in affairs. During the reign of the first three Archons, they rebuilt the Republic, spread all over the planet, enacted social reforms and researchogy, as the new culture developed, as the various Telrosians finally joined together as ed technolone entity, one nation. By the year 175 AC, they had developed Ion Drives, which enabled them to send ships into space and go colonize other worlds. Quickly over the next three decades, the Republic explored, captured and colonized eight new worlds, along with an asteroid belt. And has spent the last fifty years just building up it's infrastructure, allowing it's colonies to flourish, as well as building up it's military. It isn't large, as it hasn't faced a wartime situation since the Dark War, so they have a small yet elite military. In times of trouble, it could be expanded but for now, they remain at their size. Scouting programs are being initiated so as to see what else is out there and, secretly, because the expansionistic party wants someone to start a war with.

Transportation: Hover vehicles and aircraft transport the peoples of the republic across planets and the navy for between worlds.
Government: The Republic, is as it's namesake suggests, a republic. It is a democratic republic, so it's electoral system and legislative process is almost fully in the hands of the people. The Head of State is the Archon, who is elected by the Council, five people who in turn are elected by the people of the Republic. The candidates of the Council act much like the running candidates in a normal democracy, campaigning on the various inhabited worlds of the Republic to win voters. They promise to address certain issues and problems within the Republic, but it mostly boils down to the three main parties who have the biggest power bases in the Republic:
The Economic and Stability Party is somewhat a deceptive name; the only thing this party wants is war, and lots of it. They are the descendants of the dictator-favoring rebels back in the stormy beginnings of the Republic. They want conquest, booty, expansion, all things they view as good for the Republic. They are loyal to the Republic, but not to it's ideals.....Also named the Sword-bearers, for always verbally having their "swords" out. It is currently led by two members on the council, Councilmen Vaerdun and Selaren.
The Worker Party of Social Freedom is the exact opposite of the ES party, for they view the Republic as the entire universe, not part of a one. Favoring isolationistic views, they have fought hard against any scouting expeditions over the 121 years that the Republic has been in existance, ever since they tried to revolt and establish a entirely people-run government. They are a weak party, as national interest in expansion and other possible colonizable planets has given the other two parties the advantage. However, if something bad happens, they could get a resurgence of popularity unseen in the entire history of the Telrosian Republic. However, they get enough support, since they favor programs that benefit the workers and the nation as a whole. They are known as they "Pick and Axe" party, for they have a banner that has a pick and an axe overlapping, showing the power of the people. Due to their weakened state, they only have one member on the council, Jeleral.
The Social Betterment for the Republic party is a strange party, that came from the faction the first Archon managed to help win the struggle for power those many years ago. They have a bit of the two other parties as well as their own party's doctrine. They favor expansion but on a slow scale, only in scouting trips and finding new planets for resources, they also favor laws which protect the rights of the republic, and the people as well. However, their main thrust in politics is the betterment of the nation itself. Whenever they have managed to gain enough power to implement their policies, they have enacted social, political and economical plans that have, most of the time, increased the prosperity of the republic. They are slightly more powerful than the Sword-bearers but it's close. They have two members on the council as well, Stellis, and Peverion. Their other name is simply the Republicans.
Technology: The technology of the Republic is fairly advanced but it isn't "nuthin' special" as one of the iron workers on Agote would say. They have Ion drives, which help to push the ships through the stars and ensure ability to travel amongst the various trade routes in the galaxy. They also have normal relativistic weapons, missiles, bombs, and the like, along with railguns, and laser weapons. Plasma is a newly found invention that only the military has use of at the moment and is considered an experimental weapon only. Particle beam weapons are also used, mostly as anti-fighter and missile defenses, although they can be used for close ranged combat. However, mostly the railgun and laser batteries take care of the long range combat, supplemented by the relativistic missiles, bombs, and shells.
Nukes are also part of their arsenal but are kept only as part of the planetary defenses or as last resort weapons to help blind the enemies sensors, and/or fry them so they can make a quick getaway. Armor has also been advanced, they used a compound metal, of steel and carbon so as to provide the highest protection against enemy relativistic weapons and railguns and coilguns, and has been also charged with plasma energy, the only use seen for it at the moment, to act as a last defense against enemy weapons, should the shields fail.
OOC Note: For shields I use this method:
"The Langston Field can have temporary holes opened to allow egress of your laser fire. In other novels, the field is on stroboscopically, that is, it flickers. It will be on, say, 80% of the time, and off for 20%. If your lasers flicker in synch with your field, 100% of their energy will penetrate. But since your opponent's lasers will probably not be in synch, only 20% of their energy will penetrate. However, if your opponent manages to match your synch rate, you'll be clobbered.- Atomic Rocket site.
And it is powered by the reactor as well, so it can be beaten down, etc etc.
Medical technology is fairly advanced, having already eliminated cancer and many other diseases that once plagued the republic, but only new ones have taken their place. The comfort level of the populace is much higher and they enjoy a high quality of life, enabling them to live to be around 135 years old.
