Raid at Emden RP

May, 1944

The city of London lay in ruins. Many parts of the city reduced to rubble from the German air raids. Once industrious and vibrant, London is but a shell of its' former self. Many of its residents fled to the countryside and smaller cities. However, the skies are clear of Nazis and Allied troops are massing for an iminent invasion of France. The tide of war is turning in favor of the Allies. Yet, they are still dangerous. The war is still long from won.

A month earlier, spies in Germany releaseed documents to the British Military of a secret facility in Emden, Germany. There it was said a new weapon was being developed. One of shocking proportions. Allied bombing raids decimated Emden and the countryside but the actual location of this facility could not be found. A bold and suicidal plan was formulated...

British Military Base, Dover

The room was filled with smoke and men. The dimly lit room was small and cramped. A table sat in the middle with tons of documents, maps, and photos. The high ranking officals muttered to themselves and argued. They had been in that room planning for weeks.
Outside, a lieutenant stood in the hallway, pacing around. The sounds of his boots reverberated through the hallway. He scatched his face and mumbled about this being a waste of time. All of a sudden, the door opened and a colonel met him.
"Lt.Collins" he inquired.
"Yes sir" Collins responded with perfect military bearing.
"You may come in now" The colonel said and Collins followed.

Sergent Wilhelm Braun walked a large German German shepherd around the grounds of the research top secret facility in Germany, he exhailed watching his warm breath let out in the cold air. He stopped and blew in the middle of his gloved hands, an MP40 was slung over his arm,

God damned weather..how id like to be back in Southern France.. He thought..

A German SS private approached and the dog pulled at the leash and snarled at him....

"Down, down!" Braun commanded the dog that sat down at his feet..

"Sergent, i am on duty now.."

"Right, im going in"

He passed the leash over to the soldier and walked towards the stairs leading into the underground bunker. He went deep down into the bunker, jackboots clanging on the metal stairs, Wilhelm turned left down a corridor then turned into a side room where a group of Germans sat playing cards and cheaking their kit,

"Ahh Sarge, sit down and have a game with us" said one of the soldiers..

"I think im gonna heat somthing up and shine my boots, in a bit" he replyed opening a cabnet with some food in it, he removed a can of sausages...

"All we are doing is sitting in this damn bunker, never any action here.." one of the younger soldiers comented..

Braun placed his sausages in a pan then spoke, everyone turned to pay attention to him..

"When action comes, trust me..you will want it to be over.."

Collins gripped his beret tight as the colonel led him into the room.
"Gentlemen, this is Lt.Collins" The colonel stated to the other men. They examined him, muttered and took their seats. Collins stood there, eyes on him. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
"Lieutenant, do you know why you are here?" asked one of them in a Welsh accent.
"No sir, I was just told to be here at 0900" Collins blankly replied. The man stood up and unfolded a map.
"Come here" he called and Collins went to the table and looked at the map. It was of northern Germany, just across the border from the Netherlands. The man laid a finger on the map. His fingernail right at the word "Emden".
"Emden, sir?" Collins asked as he looked at the map, wondering why he was pointing to it.
"That is correct, lieutenant. There is a Nazi facility somewhere around the city. It is at this facility that some of Germany's leading scientists have been working at for the past three years. Intelligence reports and reports from the Dutch underground have informed us that the Nazis are developing a weapon here" the man paused and his tired eyes pierced through Collin's eyes. His face serious "A weapon which could change the course of the war"

Collins stood there, taken back by the seriousness of his tone.
"Wel...why doesn't the RAF or the Americans just blow it to bloody Hell?" he asked.
"We've tried, but the exact location cannot be determined."
"Why am I here then?" he asked even though the answer was obvious.
"You and your SAS team are to infiltrate this facility and destroy this weapon"
"That's insane! Behind fortress Europe in German soil, it can't be done! If the bombers can't destroy it then how can we?" Collins asked, the thought of trying to do this mission boggled his mind. Have they gone mad? Are they serious? All the things that could go wrong wizzed through his brain.

Pjotr Melehov was drunk. For someone from Russia, that's quite the standard state of existing, but to be so without drinking any alcohol for days it could have appeared as something pretty unexpected or unnatural.
For Pjotr it however wasn't. This was what the adrenaline made him to be. As his horse, a magnificent steed from the vast steppes of Don, increased its speed, galloping wildly through the ruins of Emden, Pjotr could reach the old, almost forgotten days of peace, his childhood. His home. This was almost as good as it was back then, and the feel of flying made him to actually laugh out.

No wonder the Germans called him "Toll-Pjotr". Crazy Pjotr.

For it was not actually the peaceful, beautiful steppe of Don that he was using for this practicing of horsemanship. It was, indeed, a city in ruins, and he wasn't having a friendly competition with his comrades about who'd be the first in race from Stanitsa (village) to the riverbank.
No, he was leading a platoon of SS-cavalry, trying to capture the fellow that had tried to shoot one of his men just about an hour ago. The man was riding a bicycle, and he seemed to be one hell of a bicycler for that matter. But, no bicycle could have escaped a pure-breed donskaya when the animal actually decided to show what "speed" actually ment, and the rider was a good one.
All of the cossacks were more than that. They were experts.

The Dutchman had been chased for about 10 minutes. He knew the ruins, and had managed to disappear out of the sight of his pursuers, but it was all in vain. The cossacks spread out in small groups, and forces the partisan to get on his bike once again. And again was he almost captured, before again turning to some back alley and disappearing for a moment.

But now he had run out of luck. Melehov, closely followed by two of the best riders of his platoons (the only ones able to keep up with him); Scharführer (sergeant) Jevgeni Arimov and Sturmman Sergei Petrovsky, could see the bicycler clearly, just about 20 metres in front of him. He urged his steed, going faster and faster, and drew his sabre. Laughing wildly he raised his sword, but just before it would have cut of the head of the sharpsooter this desperate man jumped from his bike, rolling over his shoulder and pulling out a pistol.
It was a good move, but not enough. Arimov's sword struck down, removing the man's left hand. He fell to his knees, screaming in pain.
Melehov ended his suffering with a swift blow.

Just another day of their vacation. Pjotr yawned and told his men to tie the partisan from his anckle to someone's saddle, and pull his body through the streets as they returned to their barracks near the Facility.
The blood on the ground would act as a warning for the rest of these silly people.

Xavier had been sitting in the back of the room watching his company commander chatting with the Colonel. "Ha, got to love that Lieutenant." Xavier said under his breath. Apprently a private had heard him and was slightly suprised with what he said. "What you don't love our Lieutenant, boiy?" Xavier said with a thick Nicaraguan accent.

"I do, sir!" The man replied quickly. Xavier observered that the man was nearly pissing in his boots. He must be green, was the thought that raced threw Xavier's mind. The new guys are always so tense and make the whole battlefield that much more frightening. Xavier planned on giving the Private a good old flogging after the plan's introduction, but decided this Latrine Scrubber wasn't worth his time.

The plan's introduction seemed as if it was taking forever, but as the unit's Technical Platoon Sergeant he had to understand every detail. This is what made Xavier loath his job, the damn notes are for the Latrine Scrubbers to take, was Xavier's idology. "Private, copy your notes and give them to me. Make sure you pay extra attention to the engineering part alright!" Xavier said in a low but strong voice. He then continued to walk to the exit and lean on the door waiting for his Lieutenant to come after the plan's introduction.

Alfons Wajere sat in darkness in the bushes, he had grown used to this routine since joining the resistance. He had no idea what this emergency call was about, but he new that he had to stick to the routine. Young, possibly even naive at a strech but Alfons was not stupid. He knew this was a high risk meeting and he knew it was important and that he had to be there.

was it true he thought have they made contact with the British. He didn't want to but he couldn't help dreaming that they might cross the border....accompanied by the SAS and end the creation of this weapon. It was dream; he had to keep telling himself. Even so, if it did happen, he would be too young to go anyway...

there, a flash of light he began moving through the bushes.

An Obersturmführer ran down the stairs and everyone hopped up standing at attention, Braun turned around and saluted the officer..

"Sturmscharführer Braun, your squad has been assembled outside...about an hour ago Pjotr Melehov's unit was shot at, i want you out there to help them look immeaditly"

"Ja Obersturmführer!" Shouted Braun..

"Good, hurry up...there is a Sd Kfz 7 8 Ton Tractor waiting to take you into the village of Emden, the Cossaks last known location"

Without saying any more the officer heeled around and left,

"Alright, see you guys later"

Wilhelm picked up his MP40 and went back up the stairs where his squad was assembled, there was, Wolfgang, Otto, Heinrich, Franz and Dietar with Peater behind the wheel of the vehicle,

"Ok, lets get this over with..fall out.."

The men climbed on the vehicle and headed away from the base driving through the slush and snow down a muddy road..

OOC: I'm sorry for writing so unclearly, my cossacks are indeen in the actual town of Emden, not village of Stanitsa. Stanitza/sa is the word for the traditional cossack village. I was using the word when trying to describe the difference between Pjotr's childhood ridings and these of the present. My fault, I wrote that badly. My excuse is that I'm really, really tired. Colonel Lorry stood up. The rest of Collin's squad were sitting in on the brief. Lorry was an old war horse, fought in the first world war. His right hand always twitched, no one ever asked why.
"What is said here today must never leave this room. That is a direct order. Secrecy is vital for this operation." the old officer stated as he paced the room. "Mr.Wilford, please tell them what we are dealing with". A man in a suit and tie stood up.
"The weapon at Emden is not just any other weapon-"
"Is it chemical?" Collins asked.
"No, no it's not chemical. This weapon from what intelligence tells us is beyond imagination. It's power is frightening and devastating. The Germans have been trying to build an atomic bomb for years. Luckily, we've managed to stop them. By destroying facilities in Norway we thought that their atomic bomb program was grounded for good. However, we now know that they are on the verge of completing an atomic bomb." Wilford explained.
"What's an atomic bomb?" Collins asked, whatever it was it sounded horrifying.
"When atoms are split they release enormous amounts of energy, this causes a chain reaction which causes other atoms to split. The end result is an explosion of unimaginable proportions. It is theorized that it can demolish an entire city, nothing left standing, no one left alive."

Lorry interrupted "Just imagine one of these things exploding over London. The entire city, gone! If they had enough of these bombs they could blow this island to hell. Do you know how many people, both military and civilian are on this island. The entire allied force could be wiped out. Then they could unleash this weapon on the Soviets as well."

The reality of what this weapon could do began to sink in. A ball of flame, consuming an entire city and every living person in it. The thought was horrifying. Collins believed that the Nazi atomic program was destroyed, that they didn't have enough material to build one, but it turns out they do.

I believe its a little of both, or somekind of mechanical device to stablize the supsension better. And auto-matic loading, which some tanks have would be disabled.

The brief went on for several hours longer. The mission was suicidal at best. Behind enemy lines, in enemy home territory, far away from any allied force or area of control. Collins smoked away a pack of cigarettes.
"There is one more objective" Lorry directed towards Collins. "You are to assasinate Dr.Falherst. If he dies, so dies the project. Destroy the equipment and documents. But he must die! Documents can be rewritten. Machines rebuilt. But if he is gone, so is their program for good" he said in a stern voice, to emphasize the importance of this part of the mission. The mood was stark. Even those planning the mission knew of its high risks.
"Sir, we will accomplish the mission" Collins said in a confident voice, which masked his true feelings about the mission.

Wolfgang was in a bakery next to the coast, he spotted a ferry taking men and equipment to Emden. He knew the ferry was always heavily guarded. He walked back into his motorcycle and headed back home. He arrived and went into his room, grabbed the Welrod and went outside locking the door. He went to the woods and hid it with the rest of the weapons. He had a string of piano wire, perfect for what he was going to do. He headed to a local whorehouse visited by German officers. A resistance member, who worked was with a German colonel. He enter the place and headed to the room she was in, she told the German officer she had go for a minute. Wolfgang then entered the room and threw the wire and choked the officer. He left his body for the hooker to get rid of and went home.

The SdKfz 7 8 Ton Tractor drove down the muddy, slushy road towards Emden, Sergent Braun sat at the front smoking a cigerette watching the town get closer as they approached....

He then spotted the Cossacks,

"Driver, head that way...there!" He gestured towards the Cossacks grouped around a dead body..

The Vehicle pulled up and the driver let it idle...

"Put him in here!" Braun yelled out recognizing "Toll-Pjotr" with some of his men on horseback..

The cossacks had just managed to tie the dead resistance fighter to Scharführer (sergeant) Arimov's saddle with a four meters long rope, when Melehov noticed the sound of a vehicle coming at them. He thought for a second whether he should order his men to dismount and prepare, before understanding that they weren't in Bosnia, where the partisans had vehicles too. This was GERMANY, for Christ' sake! In here, those pitiful terrorists held bicycles as their heaviest equipment.

The tractor turned to the street, stopped, and a couple of their comrades from the Facility Garrison jumped out, starting to walk towards Melehov's 15 men strong patrol.

"Sieg heil, Wilhelm!" he shouted, greeting them with the ordinary army salute instead of the fascist one.
"There's no problem anymore, we caught the bastard. These dutchies are damn fast with those bikes of theirs, our donskayans got almost swetty!" he continued, laughing.

Outside Emden, Germany

An man in an SS uniform walked through the corridors. It was dimly lite, the walls were made of plain concrete. He made a left and opened a door. Inside, several chalkboards, tables with stacks of papers and several machines. An older man sat at a desk, smoking a cigarette. His bifocules sat on the desk, he was rubbing his eyebrows.
"Dr.Falhert" the SS officer interrupted. Dr.Falherst looked up, eyes drained.
"Yes?" he asked.
"You have a letter" the SS officer walked up and dropped an open envelope on his desk and walked out.

Life sprung back into the doctor as he took out the letter. It was from his wife and children whom the Nazis were keeping somewhere in Emden. He read over it, a smile on his face. Then, he read it again. Hearing from them brought color back to his skin. Fpr the past two years he hadn't seen them and only recieved a letter here and there.

Melehov stopped his horse in front of the brothel, jumping down and handing the bridle to one of the two men who were to stay and guard the horses. Arimov led some 5 men to the other side of the building, while Melehov entered the building with the rest of the patrol, 8 cossacks all armed to the teeth, with sabres on their sides, weapons ready. The lobby was almost empty, with only couple of girls jabbering nervously in the corner.
They went completely silent when the cossacks kicked the door in, and the burst Melehov fired to the roof seemingly scared the living shit out of them.

"Where's the leading bitch of this entertainment platoon!?" he roared,

staring at the girls, gesturing to the stairs that lead up to the rooms in the second floor. Six of his men obeyed immediately, storming to the pointed direction.

One of the girld managed to summon enough courage, and pointed at one of the doors with a shaking hand. Melehov took a few steps towards the door, but it opened before he reached it, and an extremely ugly, fat lady in his late 40's rushed to the lobby.
"Stop, good sir, stop! Don't shoot! I'll show you where the body is, but you must believe me, not me or any of my girls had anything to do w-" she explained desperately, but was violently interrupted by Melehow's right straight.

"Shut up, old sow! I don't want to listen your lies now, you will be dealt with later, now I just want to see the colonel and the girl who was in shift when he was killed." he said, with an ice cold voice, to the old women, who had staggered few steps backwards, her nose broken and bleeding badly.
She reflexively glanced towards the group of young whores on the other side of the room, before quickly turning his eyes towards Melehov. It was however too late, for he had already noticed the glance.

Two of cossacks rushed towards the whores, aiming at the girls.
"Who was it? One of them?" Melehov asked, staring at the fat woman.

"N-n-no, dddon't... I... No, no it wasn't!"
she mumbled, panic growing in her.

Melehov wasn't fooled.
"You're lying. So, I guess we will have to shoot them all, and you too, then.."

The old lady of the house kneeled hastily, tears running over her cheecks. "No,no,no, I beg you, no...! It was Miriam, she... she was in shift... but, she couldn't have known... there was nothing she could have done!"

One of the girls, blond, short and skinny, not more than 17 years old prostitute started to cry too, but it wasn't fear that the cossacks saw in her eyes. It was anger, and hate.
"Yes, you bastards! I did it! I killed that old nazi! For liberty, for Netherlands, I KILLED THAT FUCKER!" she screamed from the top of her lungs, with a distinctively dutch accent.
Untersturmführer Pjotr Melehov nodded, with an expressionless face.
"Very well. Tie her up, boys. And this old bitch too. I have a plan for them."

The young, beautiful freedom fighter Miriam stared at Melehov as the cossacks tied her hands behind her back, her eyes flaming the fire of teen's determination and idealism. Old brothel's hostess screamed, cried and begged, and was beaten silent.

OOC: They're still in the brothel. No one knows about this yet, the building has been surrounded by the cossacks, no one getting in or out. Except your fellow, who flew away withing seconds (I really think you should start to write longer, more detailed posts Brydog. It's silly to do 7000 things in two sentences.) like you said. There's no hurry, man. Everything doesn't need to happen in two posts and five minutes.

He seen the Cossack's had captured the one responcible along with an older fat woman, Braun rushed foward with his lugar out and grabbed the younger girl by the throat throwing her against the wall, when she hit the floor he pushed the barrel of his pistol into her forehead,

"Stop that, Wilhelm!" Melehov barked sharply.

"I have other plans for her... I'll let my boys, and your if they want to, of course, to have some fun with her, before we take her just over the border (OOC: I assume people can't be hanged just like that in Germany, but SS officers hjad the authority to do so when in occupied territory) and put her to the rope next to that fat bastard." He grinned.

"Or, if you really want to, you can shoot the sow right here. I won't stop you. Just don't slain the girl yet, I wan't to test her **** before the execution..."

Wilhelm backed off when Melehov ordered him to do so, he looked over at the fat woman and raised his pistol,

**POW**

He shot her right in the forehead, blood splattered all over the all behind her, other girls in the whore house screamed at the top of their lungs watching as the woman slid down the wall to the floor...

The other SS men in the Sturmscharführer's sqaud looked away quickly,

"Jawhol Untersturmführer!" Braun replyed...

"You heard him men! you will take this one after the Untersturmführer's men do! understood!"

The soldiers looked un easy, but replyed..

"Jawhol"

One of the younger ones looked at the dead woman on the floor,

"Do you have a problem?"

"Nein Sturmscharführer" he replyed,

"I know you do, wait outside at once!"

"Jawhol!"

The soldier turned and went outside, Braun laughed...

Melehov's cossacks laughed too, and when they moved out, pushing the poor girl in front of them, Melehov slammed Braun's back.
"I like you, comrade, I really do." he said, smiling.

The cossacks lead the way towards the border, Braun's lorry following them closely. The girl sat in it too, and the cossacks glanced towards it constantly, joking in Russian about what they would do once they got over the border.

Braun sat in the tractor quietly puffing away on his cigerette, he glanced back at the girl where two men from his squad sat on either side of her both smiling, the younger SS man sat near the rear of the vehicle staying quiet trying to ignore what was going on...

"Don't look so depressed private" Braun joked..

The soldier looked at him and nodded, Sturmscharführer Braun knew that soldier seemed like he was going to give him alittle trouble possibly...he could tell just the way he was acting...
