OOC: Acceptance of Optics in MT

I am planning on coming back to MT, but I want to use advanced optics and lasers in the military. The only problem is, what would be considered acceptable for the bloated military budgets.

Current technology that works.
Prototype technology suffering from underbudgetting.
Theoretical technology using current/prototype technology.

What would be the limit for the general MT nations?

Well, what sort of advanced optics and lasers are you thinking of?

Using an inversion of optical longpass IR filters.....

OK Ok.... >.> How about prisms that trap light in the molecular state, rather then being asborbed and simply bend it around the object giving the appearance of invisibility? Works with microwaves...and thus can work with visible light.

The crystals though are amazing since it wouldn't need a population inversion to start the lasing for lasers, that means it could magnify the efficency and output of the lasers!

Sounds rather implausible to me.

There are solid state lasers in testing for a number of uses; among them, the JSF will be equipped with a 1 MW laser by 2012 or so.

As for camoflauge, you're much better off looking into metamaterials and OLEDs.

They are in use already, prototypes. The kill-lasers and other ones in military testing in 2012 are based on 1960's tech.

It can work in visible light, but so far only theoretically, and believe me, they're trying. But don't despair! There's a lot of Military technology that uses MMW radar which is just barely within the range at which the prisms you described have been experimentally proven to work with. Such a system could be used to conceal tanks from MMW radar guided ATGMs, or conceal missiles from MMW radar targetted defenses (mostly CIWS systems on ships)
