Mari Velasca

The Revolution began in the mid 1960s, to free the bound people of Mari Velasca, whom languished under the plight of the Corporations. Two groups, known as the Redshirts and the Telhesks fought side by side during the ten year war of liberation. However shortly after the last shot of the Revolution was fired, the Telhesks exterminated all known lesser members of the Redshirts. Their officers and ringleaders were paraded before the public, stripped of any decency, they deserved none, for during their trials, they confessed to atrocities commited against the Velascan people during the War. Beheadings, looting, rape, mass murder, all blamed on the heads of the Redshirts. after long, drawn out trials, they were sentenced to labor camps for no less than 20 years. However, in actuality, they were shot in the back of the neck in the darker chambers of the Ministry of Love, the Department charged with Internal Security of the Nation.

In Velasca, you have three types of people, the Inner-Party, the pampered and rich, accounting for only 4% of the population. These are the creme de le crop of the Corporate echalons, CEOs, Executives, the higher-ups of the Ministries of Love, Truth, and Plenty. They live in the upper-quarters of the Cities, walled sectors which are protected by troops of the Ministry of Love. inside the walls, Inner-Party members enjoy the wonders of their labor, condos, skyrise apartments, beautifully tended walkways and parks, all the greatness that Velasca has to offer. An outter-party member cannot enter these sectors without proper identification, and only for official business. Proles are arrested on sight.

Outter-party members are those that serve lesser duties. They are the middle-class. Most live in the long, three storied apartments which are always out of sight from the Inner-Party sectors. They live in relative comfort, yet not too comfortable. They are paid just enough to survive, they adhere to a strict code, they were grey overalls between the hours of 6:00am and 10:00pm, unless in their homes. There is a curfew of the same hours. Those that seem too intelligent, known as "intellects," or those that are deamed malcontent, often disappear, and large rewards are given to those that "Weed out" such undesireables. "Love Patrols" often prowl the outter-party quarters, armed with AK-74s and billy clubs, they are only seen in Mission Oriented Protective Posture suits, their protective masks fitted with smoked lenses.

The Proles are the common laborers. Football, beer, gambling, making babies, working untill they die. That is their law. City planners always place their quarters at the North side, as that is also where the majority of factories and lesser services are located. They are seen as almost less than human by even the outter-party, whom find their squaller and shabby quarters the places of crime and vice. Some outter-party, and even a few Inner-Party, are drawn by this. However, most of these thrill-seeking individuals disappear after only a few visits. The Ministry of Love blame gang violence for these happenings.

The government isn't headed by a single person as such, however, a never changing, never aging personification of the Party, known as Big Brother, is plastered on every wall, every storefront in Velasca. Television screens posted on the more congested street corners show a vague, dark face, an older man with a fatherly appearance and a bushy mustache constantly makes speeches about how well the economy, education, and work conditions. How the cost of living is going down, worker satisfaction up, stock-market reaching all time highs. CCTV Cameras and microphones are the eyes and ears of Big Brother, the Love Patrols, his teeth. Every well-being citizen loves Big Brother, for their own sake.

The Ministry of Love deals in War and Internal Security.
The Ministry of Truth is the department in charge of public and private records, articulating Big Brother TV speeches with over 500 different facial and bodily postures. The dissimination of propaganda is their game.
The Ministry of Plenty, trade, agriculture, production, and economics.

The Valescan Military is largely made up of Proles, as this is seen as the only true escape from squaller. Glory in battle is almost the only way a Prole can step up into the outter-party. Outter-party members fill the Officer Corps, while a prole can at most expect senior-enlisted, NCO rank. The mandatory term of service is six years for voluntary enlistment.
