Newsflash; IndyMedia Atopiana:
With the statement from the Central Council for Population Information that today Atopiana passed the billion mark in people, the Atopian People's Space Agency (APSA) has launched the first of a projected forty missions to construct a crewed space station in geosynchronous orbit above Atopiana.
Scientists say that the scheme is projected to take a decade at best, with four launch windows a year being exploited by APSA's two space centres. Skeptics argue that the scheme is "far-fetched" and "a pointless waste of workscrips", but in a nation-wide referendum carried out last week, 94% of Atopians voted for the construction of the space station as the "first step to the moon", according to APSA's chief scientist.
"It begins, comrades."
"Indeed it does, comrade, indeed it does."
"To freedom!"
"To freedom!"
