OOC: I tried to start a thread like this a while back and I never got a chance to finish, so I'm trying again!

With Nueve Italia rapidly recovering from the Nueve-Bandurian War (short-lived as it was), the Holy Imperial Republic announces that it has finally reached, after many arduous years of rebuilding, antebellum status, and is progressing beyond expectations on all standards.

To commemorate and celebrate the survival of the people and government of Nueve Italia, the nation is hosting a dueling competition, or Lotta diSpada as it's called in the country. All nations are allowed to send participants to engage in combat for the glory of their homeland, with the winner receiving a cash prize of 10,000,000 contantis (1 Contanti = $1.66 USD) and a gift they themselves request of the Emperor, Antonio Orsini Gori. The duels will take place within Cítta Santo in Isola Dorata, the mainland of Nueve Italia. Each nation can have up to two people represent them, no more.

The rules for the duels are as follows:

1.) There is NO striking to kill; any such attack or if the action is committed will result in immediate disqualification and possibly arrest by the Government of Nueve Italia.

2.) That being said, weapons used may NOT be lethal. This is a melee tournament and contestants can (and hopefully should) provide their own weapons, but weapons MUST be made of a non-metal (preferably Wood or Plastic) with no sharp edges/points. If a contestant is unable to participate because of this rule, the Dueling Entertainment Commission of Nueve Italia (DECNI) will provide a weapon for the contestant (similar to the Japanese bokken, it will be a simple wooden training sword).

3.) Combat is based upon a point system: a point can be scored by a strike on a person anywhere, which will be validated by 5 referees outside of the tournament area. Combat will continue until a point is confirmed. Each duel is to three points with a tie resulting in a one-hit sudden death match.

4.) To prevent (serious) injury, padded armor will be issued to contestants to protect the head, neck, chest, arms, hands, shins, and mid-body

5.) The combat area is 7 meters by 7 meters. It will be open, and stepping out of the combat area at any point will result in a point being deducted from your score. If you have no points to be deducted, a point will go to your opponent.

6.) Transport to Nueve Italia is necessary (of course). If this is unfeasible, Nueve Italia will provide aerial transport.

7.) Upon arriving, contestants will stay at the Imperial Palace in Cítta Santo throughout the competition. They will have the finest lodging, and food will be provided upon request.

Nueve Italian Competitors will be:

Emperor Antonio Orsini Gori
Age: 35
Weapon: Vestaglies Neres Training sabre, made of oak (blade is 2 3/4 ft. long, handle is 1 ft. long)
Combat Style: Volpe Astuto- literally "Sly Fox," the style is a mix of defensive and offensive maneuvers. However, it baits its opponent into trying to exploit what seems to be a mainly defensive style and attack without fear of rebuttle, only to recieve a swift strike in return.


1st Lt. Micci Ferrio
Age: 29
Weapon: Yew Staff (6 ft. long)
Combat Style: Divinita Feroce- literally "Fierce Deity," the form is aggressive, and does give up a bit of defensive capabilities for the ability to continuously attack and keep the opponent on their feet. Since Micci uses a staff, this style complements him well, for the added range of his weapon makes up for the lack of defense of his technique

~The swordsman faced his opponent, weapon extended outwards and held loosely with one hand. He feared not this battle; he had faced worst. With one step forward by pushing off of his left foot, the warrior drew his weapon arm back quickly, snapping his elbow to lock his arm in place, and then with his next step, used his momentum to swing himself to the right. He pivoted on his left foot, which had just made contact with the ground, and stretched out his right arm as he turned. The blade in his hand was slicing through the air with no resistance, and upon contact with its intended target, let out a *bump*; the resonance of which deafened all who heard it. . .~

ooc: Is this a 'bladed' weapon style competition or open-weaponed?
Also Bokken can kill.
Is the padded armour mandatory?

OOC: They can kill, but they're much less likely to. Oh, and Nueve Italia: What's your opinion on shock bokken? It's non-lethal, no sharp pointy bits, and is usually made of maple, IIRC. Now, if you dial the voltage up high enough, it can kill someone, but police models like the one I'd be using don't go that high.

Otagia: Shock bokken . .like a stun baton? Well, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to register a hit, and I'd have no real problem with it, as long as it still met standards (voltage would have to have a failsafe on it so it can't be turned up to cause major harm)

Theao: It's open weapon, anything you so choose. Yes, I know a bokken can kill, but like Otagia said, it's a lot less likely to than an edged metal weapon. Also, the padded armor is merely to prevent lawsuits, injuries, medical bills. If there is a major resentment against it, I can make it optional

Otagia: Yes, that sounds fine, as long as the weapon is kept to .001 amperes

Combat Style: A two weapon style that utilizes strikes from unexpected angles and powerful close range thrusts.

OOC: I entered a character in another dueling contest quite a while ago, but it died before the actual dueling started. I think I'll try signing him up for this one.

Age: 37 (due to some uknown temporal oddity, he hasn't aged since the last time I tried to enter him in a competition ;))

Weapon: Ghouti bladedancer's sword (A single-edged straight sword, slightly shorter and heavier than a rapier, but still light enough to move very quickly.). For this tournament, he'll be using a wooden version, instead of the unsharpened steel blade he usually performs with.

Combat style: Highly dramatic, with a strong focus on defense. As a bladedancer, he gets paid to put on a good show, and he will sometimes pass up an apparent opening early in a match. His endurance is very impressive, and he will often try to tire out an oppenent before going in for the point himself.

Ghout: Just one question: will Curnic have transportation, or need it?

Theao: A slight problem with your roster, I asked that each nation have no more than two combatans represent them in the tournament: I'm afraid you'll have to cut one, but if this is a problem, I can easily make the limit 3 fighters

Oh, yes... sorry, I forgot about that. I can provide transportation. He's the best at his art in Ghout; the Emperor is very proud of him, and would like for him to get some international recognition. What sort of transportation, exactly, will be needed?

Ghout: Since Nueve Italia is an island nation, you're probably going to need aerial transportation for the shortest possible travel time

Contestant: Kaivan Zikrellzon
Age: 24
Weapon: Vukas, four bladed sword (blade is just a term, the version he'll be using won't have a sharpened edge) Metal Cored, with Wooden blades (Basically only the handgrip is metal, is that suitable?)
Combat style: Zultiz, or Swift domination, involves swift moving attacks to better an opponent, maximises the full capabilities of a vukas, however it is somewhat difficult to master due to it requiring the wielder to be ambidextrus.

Confirmed that Kaivan Zikrellzon will be representing Novacom. Just a question, the Vukas, kinda like a cross-shaped weapon (I'm thinking, if you've played Final Fantasy VII, Yuffie's weapon)? Also, will Kaivan need transport or will he have no trouble getting to Nueve Italia?

If foreign parties are limited to a certain number of participants, these combatants are listed in order of priority. That said, each is the ranking melee duelist in each of Golugan's ruling houses. Due to the technological limitations of our transports, we have already sent the vessel carrying our representatives. Those who cannot participate, if any, will spectate. They are willing to fight one another, if the tournament requires.

Contestant: Kelgen Instalvel
Age: 41
Weapon: Broadsword and shield. Both are made of wood for the nonlethal match. He can go without the shield if neccesary.
Combat Style: Balance of Blows. This defensive style uses both items wielded for offense and defense, slashing and parrying with the sword while blocking and bashing with the shield. Essentially, it lets the opponent wear themselves out until striking becomes easy.

Contestant: Kwen Arlathal
Age: 26
Weapon: Quarterstaff.
Combat Style: Four Stars. Essentially, the combination of weapon strikes and kicking used by Darth Maul in episode one, except it's with the weapon that style was designed for.

Contestant: Archez Vidival
Age: 23
Weapon: Vidivali Cudgel. It's like Kwen's staff, but half as long and twice as thick.
Combat Style: Thunder Fist. Throw the weight of the weapon around, arcing the backswings to increase speed, and basically attack aggressively. He tends to have a hard time with defensive opponents, like Kelgen.

Contestant: Anar Kezzarel
Age: 25
Weapon: Dual punching daggers, a foot in length and made of wood.
Combat Style: Dancing daggers. A whole lot of tumbling in this style. Slips around strikes to get in at the weak spots. She tends to have a harder time with opponents wielding reach weapons or have good coverage, like Kwen.

Since only two competitors can represent one nation, the DECNI recognizes Kelgen Instalvel and Kwen Arlathal as the duelists from Golugan. Also recognized is the fact that they have their own transportation and have already begun travelling. They will recieve a hospitable and warm welcome upon our shores.

OOC: Never had the good fortune to play and of the FF games but after googling it, yeah it's kinda similar to that weapon she uses, and Kaivan won'#t be needing transport.

After a search of Russkya's varying dojos and other martial arts training facilities, one man has agreed to compete in the Neuve Italia Dueling Competition.

Name: Sergei Ruslanovich Sorikorov
Age: 25
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 97.5kg
Weapons: Wooden "Bo" (Staff, in the Okinawan Style with tapered ends) and black-rubber training knife for the purposes of this duel. If two weapons aren't permissible Sorikorov will opt for the knife.
Style: A self-developed mix of a number of Bujutsu and Russian Martial Arts forms.

Suitable air transport will be found for Sorikorov in plenty of time for the competition.

Could I make an ammendment to mine, and put in another contestant as well, Metelvan Zikrellzon, Kaivan's Brother, if possible I wouldn't mind doing what they excell at, 2 on 2 duelling.

OOC: Sure, I wouldn't mind you adding another character but 2 v 2 would be kinda tricky and an unfair advantage, as anyone who had two characters that they controled basically has two attacks per round, plus if no one else has a second character other people will have to be paired up. . . I just don't think it's worth the trouble. 1 v 1 will have to suffice, I hope it's not a problem.

Novacom: the 2v2 as an exhibitionary fight, I don't see a problem with that

OOC: I dun really care, probably be better to have a separate thread though, leave this one for OOC comments.
Also, good luck with college, make sure you pay attention to student housing, its easy to forget about if you've been living your whole life with your parents and hadn't had to worry about it, but its important.
