Just one shell and governments fall like flies
Ka-pow, Die
They stumble and fall
Bye bye
Backs to the wall
Aim high
We're having a ball
The tank and bullet ruled as democracy dies

~The Lady's Got Potential- Andrew Lloyd Webber

Keene stood on his balcony, adressing the crowd below. Then again, perhaps adressing was the wrong word. Keene said very little. He simply stood, letting the almost tangible charisma and serenity he possessed wash over the crowd as he led them in a silent prayer.

It was interesting, mused Colonel Vassar. The last time he had attended an adress by Keene, he had shouted at the crowd. Bellowed. The crowd had shouted with him, as he promised new glory for New Aeson. The crowd had loved it. But they loved this to. Keene was the Holy Father. He could do no wrong.

Or so the crowd thought. Mindless sheep that they were. Vassar knew better. That was not all he knew. He also knew that his life was forfeit tonight. In the service of a greater cause. For security reasons, nobody knew where exactly Keene would appear in public until it happened. Once anybody arrived, the Holy Guard watched intently for anybody breaking away to talk on a cell phone.

Bringing a weapon in was also nearly impossible. All in all, no assination attempt had come anywhere near fruition, although several had been prevented prematurely. Vassard, however, had had a GPS system implanted beneath his skin. And miles away, a massacre was taking place at an artillery base.

"Reports are still shakey, but we do have confirmation that it was a military shell which struck the area in which Keene was leading a prayer service. We have confirmations of at least fifty casualties, with as many as four times as many wounded. Authorities refused to comment on the condition of Keene."
***
"As of this moment, and pending a further investigation into the events leading to the attempt on the Holy Father's life, I, General Blak, have the unfortunate duty of declaring New Aeson under martial law. All major population centers shall tonight have a curfew of 2,200 hours, violation of which will be punishable by spending the rest of the night in jail.

The Crusaders marched in perfect rythym down Embassy Row. Though they did not approach any of the embassies, they took up positions all along the street, each squad of five facing the gate of a different embassy. Meanwhile, squads of Jötnar and Crusaders both moved throughout the city, enforcing the curfew, and supplementing the police forces.

Short Diplomatic Message
TO: Aeson
From:PROHT

Leader Milo offers his moral support in these times of great hardship.

If you need anything of us, all you have to do is ask.

In the meantime, we shall be conducting a readiness exercise roughly 500 miles from your shore.

Take care,

"Make no mistake. Keene was a good man. I'd even go so far as to say a great man. I had no problem trusting him to run the government unilaterally. Nobody else did either. At least, that's what everyone thought, though recent events seemed to indicate otherwise. But that's not my point. My point is, Keene is gone. Is he dead? Is he just missing? No one seems to know, or at least, nobodies talking. Bartender! Another drink! Anyways, Keene is gone, and we have to assume he's not coming back. And who do we have instead? General Blak. By Odin's balls, who is General Blak, anyways? We now next to nothing about the man, other than the fact that he's from Old Aeson, and he declared martial law. For all we know, he's not even an observer! Bartender! So why should we trust him? Because he has guns? That's backwards logic. What I say, what I say, is that we demand that he step down, and allow the church to choose an interm Holy Father, until we can figure out what happened to Keene, and then we go from there."
***
"Police today brutally dispersed a protest march, demanding, among other things, that General Blak recede the order of martial law. At least ten protestors are confirmed dead. The curfew has held so far, but in this reporter's opinion, it's only a matter of time until the next spark ignites an inferno."
***
"Computer, begin audio transcription, file name: Rain of Fire, Prelude.

Crusaders on main street, enforcing the curfew. The Odinson's disappeared from the campaign in Africa, and Tyr only knows where he is. Keene's presumed dead, although they still haven't recovered the body, so that's up in the air. General Blak declaring martial law. The next protest is likely to be met with tanks. Three college campus's in lockdown due to 'suspicion of terrorist activities' among the students. The church hasn't uttered a peep yet. And, on top of everything else, there's rumors that Janus isn't dead. It's a mess. A complete and total SNAFU. But it's going to get worse. Much worse. General Blak has plans to tear the stars from the sky, and rend the very earth beneath our feet asunder. All of New Aeson gone to Valhalla in one bright, glorious war. And there's not a single godsdamned thing I can go about it. Nothing except watch, and wait. Computer, end audio transcription."

OOC: Not in New Aeson. If you have a pulse, you're fine, especially if Keene is currently missing.

"A one hundred megaton nuclear weapon tested in Clandonia Prime. Apparentally The Transylvania authorized it, so we'll have to wait a bit longer. Meanwhile, civil unrest continues. This is where you come in. There's a group known as the 'Sons of the White Rose'. So far, they haven't done anything terribly wrong. Some slightly revolutionary content in fliers they distribute, but nothing we can hit them for. However, we have solid intelligence that is about to change. They are planning an attempt on General Blak's life. Your orders are to destroy this group utterly. Send a message that we will not tolerate traitors!"

The SotWR were based out of a large manor house belonging to one of the charter members. The gates fell to the rocket from a Jotun. The guards of the manor rushed to see what was happening, and were cut down by the same Jotun. Then four more Jötnar entered the grounds, and began firing rockets into the manor.

As the building caught fire, the Sons began rushing out. They, too, were cut down by the machine guns of the Jötnar. A few who exited the other way were intercepted by Crusaders. All in all, none escaped. Only one was spared death, a young woman who had served as a maid in the manor house. She was brought back to the Crusader Headquarters for interrogation.

"And, as the traumitized maid confirmed, the so called 'Sons of the White Rose' commonly engaged in massive orgies, forcing the hired help to join whether or not they were willing. In other news, General Blak has moved up the curfew to 2,000 hours. Any request from a Crusader or Jotun is to be complied with immediately, on pain of indefinite incarceration."

The Wanderjarian Embassy held a garrison of Twelve Marines, and five Naval GSG-9 Operators. Seeing the police brutality outside their windows, and the bother this placed on the Wanderjarians working within the Embassy, they relayed this information back to Emperor Baker.

Baker saw this, and upon reading the entire statement, sent a communique to The Aeson's Government:

Noble Allies,

We have become aware of a certain level of....discontent and trouble within your nation. As a close ally, we wish to help. Is there anything we might do?

Official Aesonic Communique:

No. There is not anything you can do. Stay in your embassies. There is heavy work to be done, and we must be the ones to do it. But thank you for the offer.

The massive figure knelt before the altar, his head lowered in prayer. Upon the altar rested two large blades.

"By the blood these blades have tasted, and by the blood they will staunch, I ask of you, Tyr, to bless me in my current endeavor, that I may not fail, but taste victory in the cause of the people.

By the right of vengeance, and of justice, I ask of you, Odyn, that you guide these blades to justice, that I may strike down those responsible for this."

He rose, picking up the two blades and turning, unconcerned, as the door was forced open from outside. Two men in Aesonic military uniforms stood at the door, both holding machine guns, and both pointing them at the massive figure.

"May Odin welcome you to Valhalla," said the massive figure, shortly, and then attacked. The first man never even saw him move. All he knew was that suddenly, the man whom he had been aiming at across the room was standing right next to him, and there was a sharp pain in his throat, and say, hadn't the guy had two swords?

The second man, still reeling from the sudden loss of his comrade was still turning to meet the new threat when the twin blades flashed, severing his head from his shoulders, and puncturing a lung for good measure. The massive figure quickly wiped the blood from his swords and sheathed them, even as the two bodies hit the floor.

"Your will be done, Father." He whispered.

Surprisingly enough, given his huge profile, and the way his two swords made the civilians scurry to the side of the street, he made it to the train station without being challenged. Even more surprising, at first, was the fact that the train station was guarded bya single Jotun. But then, this was a small town, and probably no more then one Jotun was needed to lend authority to the type of bully-boys who had broke down his door.

Or so would have been the case if it he hadn't been here. The Jotun spotted him and stomped over. "I am under orders to apprehend you, Od-"

"We both know who I am," he cut the Jotun off. "Now, are you going to let me onto that train, or do I have to go through you?"

The Jotun started chuckling. "Nice try. But you're outdated. We're the future now. The question is, will you come quietly, or..."

He never gave the Jotun a chance to finish. Drawing his swords, he leapt forward, pushed off the Jotun's chest towards the wall, and then pushed off of the wall. As he went over the Jotun's head, his sword flashed out, striking the Jotun in the back, and the neck.

The Jotun didn't even bother to turn around. "What? A sword? I'd think you would know better than that. This armor stops bullets."

"I helped design you," he replied. "I just hit two nerve clusters. Your legs should give out about now." As he spoke, the Jotun fell to the ground. He knelt, picking up the mammoth's rifle, and then calmly got aboard the train. Nobody had the nerve to remind him that he was a wanted man, or for that matter, that he hadn't bought a ticket.
