Today's Top Stories: Groznyj to Make Nuclear Weapons!
Earlier this evening the president of Groznyj, Ramzan Urmev, signed a bill to begin research and developement on weapons of mass destruction. He said quote:
"I think that with what is happening in the current global scene it is necessary for the nativeland to finally produce its own nuclear devices".
News of this bill has sparked protests in different parts of Groznyj; major rallies have been held in the capital city of Farbanti, Kanti, and Argun. So far no violence has errupted. Human Right's and Environmental orginizations, once strong allies with the current administration, have joined with the Socialist Party to create a petition against the bill. In an interview, (S) Senator Brockhelm said:
"...We have always been proud of the fact that we would never stoop to the use of weapons of mass destruction. The president has done well in the past when he was asked what he thought of the idea and scoffed at the very mention at it. Now it seems the old man has lost his head. I really don't know where the DemocraticRepublican Party is going right now it looks like they're really confused at the moment...My party however has always been against this idea..."
In an international address the president said that this decision had quote:
"...no consideration for offensive or imtimidating purposes..."
Here's the actual address:
"Greetings nations of the world. I have recently made the decision that the Republic of Groznyj will indeed begin research and developement of our own nuclear weapon systems. I have done all that I could in the past to not get to this point. I've always been proud that Groznyj has been able to handle its differences without ever giving a thought to Weapons of Mass Destruction. However this is a different world than the one twenty years ago and I weighed the consequences before making this choice. Groznyj will learn how to make its own brandof nuclear devices but I stress that we will never use them for the purposes of intimidation or first strike offensive action. I now beleive that to ensure the safety and ultimately the freedom of the citizens of Groznyj, we will have to join the ranks of the atomic nations."
