The M41 Walker Bulldog was named for General W. W. Walker who was killed in Korea. Replaced by the M551 Sheridan in U.S. Army service.

The driver sits at the front, left side of the all-welded steel hull. Three periscopes are mounted in front of the driver, and another one to his left. Beneath the driver's seat is a hull escape hatch.

The commander and gunner sit on the right, and the loader on the left. A hatch cover opens forward of the commander's cupola, which has five vision blocks and a 360° traversable periscope. Another periscope that can be traversed 360° is provided for the gunner.

The gunner also has a telescopic sight for aiming the 76mm gun. The loader has a single periscope and a hatch cover that opens forward. A light sheet-metal stowage box is mounted on the turret rear. A dome-shaped ventilator is on the turret roof toward the rear. The driver operates the ventilator blower.

The M41 is divided into three compartments. The driver's compartment is at the front, the fighting compartment is in the center, and the engine compartment is at the rear.

Standard equipment on all M41s includes a heater, deep fording equipment, and electric bilge pumps. The M41 is not equipped with an NBC system.

ANTI-TANK VEHICLES
The term "anti-tank" originally denoted systems specifically designed to destroy tanks. The term now includes weapon systems designed to defeat armored combat vehicles. Anti-tank weapons which cannot penetrate tank armor can still be a formidable threat if they can defeat or damage more lightly armored fighting vehicles.

Although there are unique anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launcher vehicles with unique ATGMs, most launcher vehicles are military and commercial vehicles adapted with pintel mounts for portable ground launchers, with ATGMs manually loaded and launched.

The tank destroyer is a self-propelled anti-tank gun. The main gun is sometimes mounted in a rotating turret, but is more often mounted in the upper glacis plate with limited ability to traverse and elevate.

The self-propelled recoilless gun uses gas vents to counter the recoil of a low velocity projectile.

The platform vehicle is a BRDM-2M/GAZ-41-08.

A variety of ATGM mixes have been seen with 9P148, between AT-4 and AT-5-type ATGMS. The primary benefit of adaptability is increased launcher load and adaptability to user countries' inventories of ATGMs. Most common ATGM is AT-5. As AT-5B is produced, it is likely to replace AT-5 in better-budgeted country inventories.

Reload time for the launcher is 25 seconds.

Russian firms have developed countermeasures, such as encoded-pulse beacons for ATGMs and counter-dazzler adjustments to the 9S451M1 guidance box. Filters can be mounted in front of reticles.

The 1PN66 thermal sight is available for the ATGM launcher. Acquisition range is approximately 2,500 meters.

Russian KBP offers a drop-in one-man turret, called Kliver, with a stabilized 2A72 30-mm gun, a 4 Kornet ATGM launcher, thermal sights, and improved fire control system.
