The simple barracks were constructed. The fence was lain and the guard towers were erected. Within a couple of days, the first shipments of food supplies and dilapidated vehicles that would serve as targets. The ncame the weapons. Soon, the most important arrival would arrive: warm bodies.
General Bryan Castle of the Tactical and Logistical Solutions Mercenary Army stood, with a division of the military advisors. Each one of them was hand selected from The Grand Army of the Community. The majority had seen combat, and some had even went straight from their tour of duty to a mercenary job. Sergeant Dion McKay, the man who would be the lead DI, was a reservist in The Grand Army, and had just returned from his tour of duty in the pacification. He had been a decorated officer, but was never comfortable away from the battlefield. Most of all, he looked forward to taking these men and making them into something powerful and awesome.

The young man, shook his head sadly as he changed into his uniform. He made many mistakes with his seventeen years of life but no greater one than this. Not even a month ago he got his girlfriend pregant, and with the passing of a new law, Trent Fox found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because of the new legislation he was now required by law to join the military to support his new child, now on the way. He finished jumping into his uniform and stood up straight, holding still at attention in the locker room. He awaited his first orders.
The men were lined up and issued their weapons. They were each issued an AK-47 and a 10 mm USP and a kbar knife.
Dion McKay stood before the recruits. "These are your weapons. by the end of the day, you will know these inside and out. You shall live and die by these weapons. By the end of today, you will be able to tell us the strengths and weaknesses of each weapon you have. You will know how to use these weapons in every conceivable manner..."
The period of indoctrination began. For the next several weeks, the soldiers were subjected to brutal excercises every day. They ran five miles, were forced to perform backbraking labor and were subjected to psychological torment day in and day. Anyone who stood up to the drill instructors was broken, physically and mentally for all the world to see. These men were going to be shells of their selves.
After the third week of brutal excercises, the men were assembled. They had not had food in two days. Each man was led into the mess hall, but there were no tables. Instead there were chickens. Pecking a scratching across the floor. They cocked their heads and looked at the group of men entering the room.
"You are no longer simply men. You are no longer simply useless denizens who take from your country without returning anything. Today is the first day of being a soldier. Your body, the body and blood that flows through it is not yours. It is the state's. Your bodies are well oiled machines, and their sole purpose is to keep the homes of your fellow citizens safe. The first thing you must learn is that preservation of this machine is of utmost importance. You must keep this body alive as long as it needs to so that all your duties may be fulfilled." Dion McKay stepped around the men. "You will notice that I have stripped you of your weapons. I am sure you know what is in front of you. Now, I bet you are all hungry after today's PT. Soldiers, there are enough chickens in front of you for one chicken per person. The combined calories and vitamins of the meat, blood, giblets, and bone marrow is enough to quench all of your hunger. These creatures are living, though. I want you to know this. Each one of these chickens had a mother and a father it loved. They have siblings whom they also loved. And, I might also add that the kitchens will be closed for the next week. There are enough chickens for you to survive, but if you choose not to make the appropriate sacrifices, you will die from the next series of excercises you go through. I promise you, you will be dead and I will o nothing to stop it. Only you can insure your survival."
