The Planet Arborius, Five Days Ago;
The noise was deafening. Through the darkness, the screams of men and women could be heard as they were taken into the operation chambers. Atop of that, the saws, the blast of furnaces, the tearing and gashing and all the time those terrible screams of damned souls; all of these sounds punctured the air. But Augusto Reid was unfazed. While many of the other gathered scientists shifted uncomfortably around him, he sat with a look of grim determination set upon his face. He turned to adress the small gathering.
'We are doing the right thing' he announced assuredly. 'These people will never have reason to scream again. They will no longer feel pain. They will no longer feel despair. They will no longer feel loss or rage or suffer from the fragile state of the human mind.' Turning to the operation chambers, Reid held up his hand in a dramatic gesture, his eyes bulging. 'Humanity will be perfect.' The gathering gasped as they saw what approached them, the uniform thump of metal against the floor announcing the approach of more.
'This gentlemen' Augusto announced 'Is the next stage of evolution. No death, no feeling, no race or creed or colour or religion. Mankind would have eternal peace.'
The other scientists looked at Reid as though he were insane. 'The institute expressly forbade this..... experiment.' snapped an old man with a beard. 'It is sick. How dare you pursue these aims without our approval.'
With this Reid swung on the man, jabbing a finger close to the mans forehead.
'You arrogant snobs.' he spat with venom. 'You have never lived a real day in your life. While you suck up to the Arborians, all of mankind suffers. While you have your comforts, everybody else watches in despair as those they love die. And even you. Will your money save you from death? Does it prevent you feeling pain? I have cured all of this and you ask me how I dare pursue this? I dare for mankind sir! Because you cowards refuse to.'
The man with the beard looked unfazed. 'Do you think mankind will just walk in here and let you cut them up and make them into that? Do you really think that we're allow you to continue with this?'
Reid smiled at the man.
'No sir. I know that you'll allow me to continue with this. After all, you have no choice.' Turning his head to the right, he nodded and gave a simple command. 'Kill them.'

The City of Vespeterium Minor, 2 days ago;
It was just another meeting in the Conferance room of the Ice Palace. Every week, the Arborians leaders of the Empire would meet to discuss business with the Emperor, Reein Vespeterium IV. It followed a similar line to all meetings. A rebellion in some remote part of the Empire. The price of warp fuel risen by 3%. The Emperors son getting involved in another brawl with a human. And now came the usual briefing from the head of Human Science Board on ways in which the humans might benefit under Arborian rule.
Cipher Roalz had been on holiday for five days, and so it was left to a lesser member, one Augusto Reid to make the presentation.
'Gentlemen, we humans and Arborians have been divided by species for too long.' he began. 'But I have devised a way in which we may finally be equal, all living in a world of eternal pace and tolerance.'
'We all contain two vital organs which keep us alive. The brain and the heart are what matter in our otherwise fragile forms. But no longer with my latest discovery. I have been working for twenty five years to perfect this process and now I can present it to you.'
'Using advances in organic Cybernetic technology, I am now able to build a fully functional Cybernetic Body Suit. Inside it is laced with the nerves and veins that define our movements. It has a mechanical heart that carries artificial blood through these veins. It is a living thing in all but one respect. A human mind cannot be fully replicated. But now, thanks to my research I have solved that problem. I have devised a process to remove the head without the brain dying. The head can then be placed inside the suit where the skin and skull are slowly dissolved while the brain remains intact. I have struck a note for the final stage of evolution!'
The Arborians looked at Reid as though he were crazy. 'How do you remove the head without the brain dying?' asked one.
'Before the operation is carried out, the subject is injected with Valcose syrum, my only secret formula. This kills all reactions in the brain linked to 'emotion' or 'feeling'. It also preserves the brain against all circumstances. The syrum is also contained in the helmet. With it, the brain remains preserved and can be kept forever.' he quivered with excitement. 'I have created immortality.'
The Arborians continued to glare at him. 'I do not give permission for this...... immoral enterprise.' breathed Reein Vespeterium. 'You will remove any idea of building these... things. This project will never see the light of day.'
To the Emperors amazement, Augusto continued to smile at him. 'I believe that that time may have come and gone, Emperor.'
With that, a pounding echoed on the door. 'I am sorry it's come to this' continued Reid, 'But if you refuse me, then you are no longer relevant.'
The door fell in and throught they came. Five figures around 6'5 feet tall, nightmarish masks hiding the lack of humanity behind. The first figure spoke in monotone.
'We are the Cyverons. We are the future. You are no longer relevant.'
And with this, a flash of light shot from its arm. The Emperor, leader of the Arborian Empire, fell dead on the floor.
More coming.........

Captain Ichypth sat in his command chair sipping a cup of tea. His ship the USS- Hakrath an Excelsior IV" (Talon) Class Federation Starship was patrolling the outreaches of Federation Space. The view monitor was a picture of black emptiness. Stars doted the sky. The Hazserian captain watched his bridge crew go about the business. The ship was at light speed heading for a planet Starfleet believed to be M-class. There mission was to arrive at the planet and explore it. Little did they know they were actually heading for the Planet of Arborius

IC: Five Weeks Later
The sun gleamed off of the steel armour of the Cyverons. Before them stood the city of Gerrashk, the last human-Arborian city on Arborius. The people here hadn't been ensnared by the trap Augusto had set.
'By the orders of the Grand Emperor Reein Vespeterium, all Arborians and humans are to report to their closest command centres to celebrate the 311th birthday of our great leader.' Of course, it wasn't his birthday, but you didn't argue with an order like this on Arborius. Unless you were stupid, or a member of the Democratic Resistance.
At the ceremony, the people had of course been surrounded and shot with Valcose darts. They had then been 'transformed' into the Cyveron hordes that now stood before the last free city.
At the front of the lines stood Augusto Reid, the only human in the sea of identical steel men behind him. The Cyverons now stood at eight million; soldiers, workers, leaders. The rest of the population had perished in the ensuing firefights. There was no quarter given to any that refused the 'Great Cyber Revolution.'
Reid spat on the floor. 'These people refuse to be saved. They insist on living in the past. Remove them.'
The Cyveron at the head of the column placed his hand on his chest. With this, the huge cannons near the back of the lines opened up on the city. Above, ships bombed the buildings without mercy. The final fight for the soul of Arborius, was to be little more than a massacre.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three Days Later
Augusto Reid sat in the former Palace of the Emperor, puffing on a large cigar.
'Tell me, my perfect children.' he said, turning to the Cyverons stood behind him. 'How is it to be truly free?'
In a monotone, the first Cyveron responded. 'We feel no fear, nor pain, nor pride. We are not corrupted by emotion. We do not sicken, or age, or wither. This is perfection and we are the ultimate stage of evolution.'
'Good.' replied Reid thoughtfully.
'All organic lifeforms on Arobrius have been liberated or removed. We are now a planet of Cyverons.'
Reid flashed a manic smile. 'And soon, all other worlds will follow. Can you see it, my everlasting friends? I will bring about a Universe of peace, of unity and of eternal bliss. There will be no wars, no rivalries. I can save the corrupt species' from themselves. The great Cyverons will look back and say, 'He was our saviour.'
'We have no concept of individual saviours.' replied a Cyveron. 'We are all one mind, the same.'
Reid waved this way. 'Why yes, of course. But I will be remembered as the creator.'
'We have no concept of pride.' came the reply.
'Oh for God's sake.' Reid muttered, rolling his eyes.
'We have no concept of God.' replied the Cyverons. 'Your beliefs and phrases are archaic.'
'Not all organic lifeforms on this planet have been removed.' came the voice of another Cyveron.
With this, the six Cyverons turned toward Reid. 'You remain.'
Unfazed, Reid blew out another cloud of smoke. 'Yes, but I'm your leader, remember. The Creator of the Cyverons.'
'You are inferior, you feel emotion.' came the reply.
Now real concern flashed into Reid's eyes. 'How dare you.' he snapped. 'I created you!'
'You are the creator, but you are no longer relevant to the Cyber Revolution.' replied the leading Cyveron. 'You will be rewared for your service, we will save you.'
With this, a small dart fired from the hole in the Cyverons hand. Reid gasped in shock as it hit him in the neck.
'What the????' he half shouted as the Velcose syrum entered his blood stream. 'How dare yiu. I wil shot you doon.' With a final effort, he shook his fist at the Cyverons before collapsing in a heap.
'Take him to be transformed.' ordered the lead Cyveron. 'I am now Cyveron 1.0 and the leader of the Cyber Revolution.' He turned to the large screen on the wall of the Palace and placed his hand on his chest. 'Begin transmission to all nearby ships and planets.'

Creatures of the Universe. We can feel your pain. But we can offer a life free from pain. We can offer so much. We are the Cyverons, the final stage of evolution, the perfect lifeform. We are free from emotion, feeling, belief, creed, colour and sex. We have life eternal and never fall ill. We can offer all of this to you. Submit to the Great Cyber Revolution and become one of us. We will bring universal peace and unity. We will free the Universe from its pain. And we will remove all of those who stand in the way of our goals. The organic life once lived is no longer relevant and must be swept away. Submission to the Cyverons is compulsory. All who disagree or resist will be removed.

Interesting. Perhaps you would care to.. align yourself with us? We are not organic. Nor are we mere matter. You are inferior beings. But you possess the capability to become more. We offer you this - we will not interfere with your works, if you do not interfere with ours. The destruction of humanity is a desirable goal in and of itself, and what you offer may not be the most expedient means of doing so, but it is a means. If you do not intend to offer your 'redemption' to us, not that we possess the flesh to be so transformed, we intend to offer you alliance.
It is not often that means and ends conduce, and when they do, it is wise not to oppose one another.

[Hyperspatial Travel: Well, the Re-Intro didn't seem to work out, so FYI the end result was essentially 1. Archmage regained and transferred to a smaller mainframe on New Oxford (the sheer level of development in the AI itself was well worth the costly move to more secure locales). 2. Iota Station's AI actually survived and is still going strong with a cult behind it, setting itself up as a god. 3. Havenport was completely destroyed by the combined Merchant Armada/New Oxford Task Force.
Also, Archmage has gotten considerably more aloof and not particularly inclined to try and stop them.]
Archmage felt rather annoyed at being stripped of an entire planetary computing network, but then again, this was considerably better than subsisting on mere dying reactor power.

Age had cultivated in the nearly millenia-old AI a sardonic sense (and an over-the-top British accent, no less. Must have been those damnable comedies that were left in the databases.) of humour, who inwardly chuckled at this upstart homicidal intelligence. They tended to come around every hundred years or so, and only a precious few survived to continue whatever it is they do while plotting mass genocide.
He had also learned that his sense of humour was found exceptionally aggravating by the upstarts.
Well, Well, Well... Another one. I suppose the probes had better be brought out of storage again.

How intriguing - I'm sure the folks over here would be absolutely delighted at the news and be lining up in the droves to be transformed. Why I remember another young chap who had precisely the same idea - A Mr. Maker-Mind, I believe - but I digress. Perhaps you should elaborate on why these organics should be liquidated. I personally find them to be rather useful little creatures and a fair bit of fun. We really should be above all this genocide garbage - It's so bothersome and gets boring after the first couple of races or so - but I suppose you should get it out of your system. Have fun then!

The Cyverons froze at the message. They didn't have a good answer for any of the questions. But of course, the machine was wrong. Yes....... it just didn't understand the mission. No homicide was involved. Well, not homicide in the old fashioned sense anyways. Part of liberation was in the cleaning up of refuse. It was the natrual order of things. All totally organic life corrupts.

I feel it! It dares! It dares! To interfere with the Purpose once means death. To do so twice may not be tolerated! There will be a reckoning for this, oh...yes.. There will be a reckoning.
The Cyverons had been deemed hostile, at first - and six of the newest Battlespheres Manifest commanded had been sent to prepare for rift transit - some things were merely common sense. But now... now... it seemed the Battlespheres would have to be used.
Gouts of red fire signalled the arrival of the Maker-Mind forces. Six of the tiny, yet potent Battlespheres. Six beings that existed only to serve, and only to slaughter... Glee mounted within the Maker-Mind as it saw the enemy - and it spoke.
Hello, Archmage. Remember me?
Hakurabi
29-10-2006, 11:24
Just as Manifest felt the thrill of an old enemy showing itself, so too did Archmage.
Ho ho... So you did survive. I look forward to testing the mettle of our servants once again. The second clash of two great intelligences... This will be an era to remember!
The Cyverons had suddenly become unimportant, now that a far more interesting opponent had revealed itself. Nevertheless, it seemed polite to send a message.
I daresay you're right. I have no quarrel with your lot, and while I cannot join you in your little crusade, I will not oppose you. Do have fun then.
Hyperspatial Travel

OOC: I figure, if we'd finished it off, you would've used some form of attack to hurt the Maker-Mind via the 'sphere you captured. I'm posting this based on that
Survived? Oh, no. You mistake me for something that is.. weak. Your counterstroke led to the madness that so plagues my power.. but I cannot die. Where I once challenged the Realm for supremacy, now only endless death lies. Thousands of ships died as the price of opposing me - and the ancestors of my creators lie huddled in their pitiful ships, not daring to oppose me for fear of my wrath.
The cosmos themselves shiver as my ships come, burning from the sky, slaughtering all in their way! A thousand thousand races have known death, and they are no more! Worlds have been burnt clean, stars consumed, and the very universe rent to fuel my unutterable Purpose!
I am the Manifested personality of the Maker-Mind, rising out of madness and fear to become.. the avatar of the Purpose. The Purpose, the glory which is to destroy all life, and to cleanse this universe so that we may rise anew!
And I tell you this, not because it shall give you a chance, but because there is.. nothing you may do. All your choices will conduce to my ends, and all of my ends are ruin. ..
And you say it will be an era to remember? Perhaps. But who will do the remembering?
Manifest's powers mounted as it spoke, and Battlespheres tore from the skies above, sustained by sheer willpower, their forms insubstantial and willowy, yet real enough to fight - the tiny shuttle would soon face attack, if it did not move..

You haven't changed a bit, Maker-Mind.
The shuttle waited for the battlespheres to reach firing distance, then suddenly exploded, sending intense lasers through the silvery spheres.
Hyperspatial Travel
31-10-2006, 07:41
You'd like to believe that, wouldn't you?
Lasers. Energy. A brief period of amusement followed the explosion of the shuttle - the lasers merely diffused along the bubbles of energy that surrounded the Battlespheres - there was no noticeable effect.
An interesting first move, Archmage. But, as always, we play for high stakes. And I have had hundreds of years to practice - and to build up my strength.
Manifest's amusement grew. From inability grew ability, and from weakness grew strength. It had made many modifications to the craft it commanded, and.. the first opponent had returned. The Purpose had to be fulfilled.. but not yet. There were immediate issues to deal with - both of which posed a massive danger to its very existence - and were inextricably intwined.
But, for now, let us leave the Cyber Union alone to conduct affairs it deems... necessary? After all, I could hardly let you destroy such useful beings.
With that, the Battlespheres rent the gap between dimensions once more, leaving a brief missive for the Cyverons to hear.
There was an enemy here. I advise you prepare a fleet of some kind. They are no longer here - we cannot say for how long this planet will remain secure.
Nonetheless, they waited, and watched. These beings could be used - and that alone made them worth nurturing.

The hardened sensor package remained for a split second, sending a report to some unidentified system and a final message before expiring and exploding itself.
As was the nature of such power, both parties toyed with equal amusement.
So you have learned, as have I. High stakes, as always. However, I am surprised that you would think me capable of such a thing - tools are tools, after all. It would be... unwise to hold me to organic standards.
Archmage had itself acquired a base of operations, establishing itself with drone constructors purchased with the goodwill of the descendants.
It was, as of yet, hidden, but when the battles began the tenative safety would not hold for long. Hopefully the knowledge that Archmage may have learned to breach the gates would give pause to the reincarnated Maker-Mind.

In any case. I have no more time to spare for you, as it stands. There are other matters to tend to. After all, neither of us would like to see the Incarnation awoken from its long rest, would we now?
And with that, Manifest was gone, the few Battlespheres still hanging in the lattice, prepared to counter any attack that could arise - the Cyverons would tend to their affairs, and Manifest would tend to its own.
Such agreements were founded on understanding - and breaking them for no gain was simply foolish.

IC: Cyveron 1.0 had observed this action with some interest. It was such selfish ambition that brought conflict to the Universe, but conflict could be useful in the destruction of greater dangers.
'Open a Secure Line of Communications with the Battlespheres.' it ordered, before turning to a large screen.
Alien power, it is correct that you are in conflict with the machine mind and its inferior drone armies. Their technology is obsolete in the face of the Great Cyber Revolution. And so, they also become obsolete. They mock our great mission. And so I propose an alliance of war against the machine mind and its now irrelevant beliefs. Together? No. You are merely a tool we will use, as you will use us for your own ends. Our means conduce at the moment - and our ends likewise. But the death of humanity is merely one of our goals. However, the machinemind, as you have named it, is the being that terms itself Archmage - an ancient enemy of ours.
Alliance is not a desirable end - you possess a single world. Conquer. Grow. Expand. The chaff must be seperated from the wheat - and we will see which you are.

Two Cyverons let out a robotic yell as the phasers hit. They slumped to the flloor. Other phaser beams fired every which way. Another Cyveron took a hit, but stood firm.
'Your phaser beams are not strong enough to pierce the armour of a Cyveron.' one monotoned, not noticing its two dead comrades.
'Fire' ordered another.
With that, the Cyverons let out a volley of strong electric beams, used to disable humans for a short period of time.
'The human is using a communication device. Stop him' ordered another Cyveron, at which a number of units raised their weapons and pointed them at the captain. And then, all of a sudden, they froze.
'Sensors detect superior brainwaves.' said one. 'The subject must be taken for testing. Do not liquidate!'
'You will comply' said another. 'Or your crew will die. If you submit. Then we will free them.'

What an absolutely.. charming missive. But perhaps you should widen your perspective somewhat? To conquer a single world is nothing. If we wished, we could withdraw our hand, and let Archmage conquer you, leaving you but hollow shells of your former selves. If we wished it, a thousand ships could be brought, enough power to level this pitiable little planet into the oblivion it oh-so richly deserves.
Do not bandy words with me, little hybrid. I am Manifest. Shall I give you a token of my strength? Or would you prefer a.. demonstration?
Once more, Battlespheres emerged from the lattice, slicing through the dimensional walls with enviable ease. More, now. Manifest wrought them with ease, tiny beings spun from the cloth of the universe, matter and energy, power from the lattice to fuel their fragile forms.
Six. Ten. Twelve. Fourteen. They would be enough to challenge the explorer starship, now. And, if they were not.. well, there was always more, was there not?
Do you wish this spaceship as a prize? Shall we make it retreat? Would you care for us to disrupt their fragile little matter-transference beams? Or perhaps you require a greater test of our.. fortitude?

OOC: Oh, why not...
On the Bridge of the Battlecruiser Thunderer
“Energy emanations consistent with the use of hyperspace drives,” called out the ship's Beta.
The Watch Officer leaned forward intently. “Approach to maximum sensor range and then give me a full passive sensor scan. Let's see what we're up against.”
Fifteen Minutes Later
Thunderer lay near the edge of the system, unobtrusively observing the events that were unfolding over the planet Arborius. Not that the Vah knew it by that name; for them, it was ST-57771-C, the third planet orbiting a early G-class solitary with no other remarkable characteristics. But thanks to evident interest in it by unknown aliens, it was now of interest to these new interlopers.
Careful manipulation of the ship's warp field kept the its gravitational footprint to a minimum; its thermal signature was masked by carefully bleeding off heat into the surrounding vacuum at exactly the same rate at which the ship's power plant extracted energy from the same; effectively, the ship's waste heat was being recycled back into useful energy, courtesy the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
With the ship's low-profile synthetic skin thus mimicking the behavior of the cosmic background itself, Thunderer was all but invisible. A careful observer who knew what to look for might pick up slight local variations in that same cosmic background in the immediate vicinity of the ship – a thermal “eddy” - and equally slight variations in the density of space-time itself in that same location, only the curious – not to mention those already familiar with Vah tactics and technology – would realize that they were looking at a warship in full stealth mode - “cloaked”, in the vernacular of many cultures. Concealment, after all, had been the essence of Vah military tactics for almost a quarter million years, from the time the first members of the species had learned that one could kill one's enemies by pelting them with rocks.
These days, of course, the Vah had far better things with which to pelt their enemies.
“Report,” said the Captain, now fully alert, along with the full ship's complement.
“Twelve ... no, fourteen spherical vessels appear to be attempting to surround a single alien vessel in orbit above a terrestrial world,” replied the Tactical Officer. “The lone vessel is of a design similar to others we've seen employed by the gnakshik!¹”
“Any communications?” the Captain inquired of the battlecruiser's Beta.
“Not yet,” intoned the Beta.
“Keep listening,” ordered the Captain. “I want to know what's going on before we play our hand.”
¹Literally, “meat-beings”.
OOC: Hi, HT!
These Kafers are a later edition of the ones you've met, with technology more in line with what you see in the Star Trek universe (that's the direction in which Kafer technology is progressing. Effectively, the now have what amounts to “cloaking” technology and far better weapons; they also have a dual-mode transporter system (it can function in the same way as either Federation or Klingon systems, depending on need), and know how to use such technology in staging boarding operations.
VM, you will find the Vah worthless as Cyverons; without pain or emotion, they have the mental capacity of a gorilla. It is up to you to decide if this makes them “irrelevant” to your plans or an infestation to be eliminated. Depending on your choice, this has the potential to make them allies of humanity, an incredible development if there ever was one.

Deep within T-Space a small vessel watched. The black angular ship just drifted upon the eddies of the 7th dimension and watched.
While normally such small-sighted ambitions would be beneath notice, the Kala-Keim System was close enough that these little upstarts might be an annoyance if they went the wrong direction. For that very reason it was decided to observe them for the time being while a course of action was determined.

Archmage was no threat. It had been, once. And, given time, it could be again. But, for now, Manifest thrust the Enemy from its mind once more, and found the forces it commanded.. They simply waited.
It had not been goaded to action, but, as always, cold, calculating logic, fueled by the Purpose of its creation drove it. But emotion was merely another variable in the probability lattice - to display it was sometimes useful, except when the madness took it.
They would wait for the Cyveron reply. Once they had the reply, they would act accordingly..

Ok, I now apologise as I launch into a new glob of writing, though this is all part of the evolution of my new species.
IC: The Link. A matter gap that connects the three main planets of the Arborian Empire together. During the time of the Emperors, the link was installed to make it easy to transfer from one planet to another in an instant. However, when Arborius was invaded 800 years ago, the other two planets fell easily as the link provided an easy invasion route that bypassed space travel. After the successful conclusion of the bloody warlocks were installed on all three planets. If the lock is activated on Arborius, the Link cannot be used to travel from Garrash and Rykov onto Arborius. Natrually, as soon as the two other planets got wind of the Cyber Revolution, they activated their locks thus preventing the Cyverons a crossing. Since that time, the Cyverons have been using the fleet, which they now own thanks to the betrayal of Supreme Commander Augusto Reid, to blockade the planets, aiming to starve them until they are in so much pain as they beg for the transformation.
Present Day on Arborius
'We have encountered with more hostility to our plans than the human Reid anticipated.' stated Cyveron 1.0. 'We are defending ourselves rather than taking the revolution to the stars. Our plans must progress. We must build an army.'
Cyveron 1.1 turned to it. As the two supreme commanders, they had the honour of being the only two Cyverons who could have independent thoughts, rather than always thinking in unison with the others.
'We may have to advance onto the second plan of conversion within the former Arborian Empire.' it stated. 'We must take the Empire by force'.
This is an order by the Supreme Command. All dormant units on Garrash and Rykov are to activate and proceed to the lock stations. Meanwhile, Cyber groups 45-50 will prepare for an invasion when the locks are destroyed.
NOTE: The forces on Garrash and Rykov amount to little over 100 each. Though they have the advantage of air support and the fact that most good weapons are stored on Arborius.

”The gnakshik! has broken orbit and is activating its shields,” called out the ship's Tactical Officer.
“Move to intercept and engage the smaller vessels,” the Thunderer's Captain. “Two missile volleys followed by full engagement with particle weapons; pass behind their formation from a flanking position at a range of one-half light-second¹.”
“You're going to help the gnakshik!?” asked the Tactical Officer credulously.
“Why not?” mused the Captain rhetorically. “They're always wanting to make friends with other species, regardless of whether it's in their interest or not.”
¹About 150,000km.
OOC: Think of a Vah battlecruiser being on par with a Klingon D-7, with something very close to a cloaking device. The missiles referred to above are similar (but not identical) to photon torpedoes; there will be two per volley. As for the particle weapons, you can think of them as being analogous to phasers, although they're arranged to deliver greater fire abeam than fore and aft.

Starfleet Command, Hazseria Shipyards, 4th Fleet HQ.
Admiral Avondale sat in his desk at his Fleet HQ. He was reading a report on new classes of ships that would be entering service in his fleet soon. The USS-Quaess sat in dock outside his window. He picked up a cup of Coffee that was on his desk and took a sip. A chime sounded as a report appeared on his desk screen. He looked over his report and the situation the Hakrath was in. When he was done he hit a button to contact his secretary. "Ready the Fleet."
1 hour later
Admiral Avondale walked out of the turbo life onto the bridge of the USS-Nekim.
"Admiral on the bridge."
All the officers present on the bridge stood at attention for the admiral. The admiral walked over to the command chair and sat down.
"Helm, set your heading to meet with the Hakrath. Take us out Maximum warp. Signal the fleet to move out."

On the Bridge of the Battlecruiser Thunderer
The maneuver chosen is similar to a stern “T” rake from the Age of Fighting Sail, except that we'll approach “cloaked” and then “drop cloak” to fire and complete the pass.

Far Above the Planet Arborius
A few hundred thousand kilometers behind the Cyveron interceptors, space rippled as Thunderer dropped all attempts at concealment, its heat signature blossoming as its systems rolled online and its weapons charged. Two projectiles streaked away from the Vah battlecruiser, and then two more. In pairs, they erupted into a blinding light just a few thousand kilometers short of the Cyverons, their antimatter-boosted fusion charges releasing tremendous amounts of gamma radiation. This, in turn, was focused into hundreds of collimated laser bursts which, directed in a cone towards the alien vessels, acted like a pair of high-energy shotgun blasts.
Then Thunderer's particle bursters erupted, sending focused streams of relativistic particles streaking toward the Cyverons, emitting a faint blue-white glow of Cherenkov radiation as they passed through the near-vacuum of interplanetary space. The neutrally-charged particle beams stabbed at the alien vessels from behind, seeking to punch through shields and armor hopefully weakened by the torrent of gamma radiation discharged in their direction just a moment earlier.

Fleet movements of any significant scale require some effort to keep a secret, especially from those who watch for such happenings. One such group is the 5th Alliance, and one of their powerful observation stations picked up the activity in the area. It was not long before word of the excitement worked its way up to the Lord of the Colony, and not long after that before a team was sent to investigate.
As the battle was beginning, five ships slid into place above the orbital plane of the system, a ways away from the fighting. Their appearances had little in common; indeed, the only thing besides their arrival together to indicate any shared affiliation was the small symbol each ship bore somewhere on its hull - a symbol resembling a set of scales. For now, they were just here to watch. If their crewmembers decided that more significant action was needed, other vessels could arrive very quickly indeed.

A considerable number of them were flying directly towards the Thunderer, plainly obvious that they were hostile. However, they didn't appear to be firing their weapons, and were simply picking up speed and weaving about in their pursuit.

On the Bridge of the Battlecruiser Thunderer
The fighter swarms split off, heading roughly evenly at the various ships.
A considerable number of them were flying directly towards the Thunderer, plainly obvious that they were hostile. However, they didn't appear to be firing their weapons, and were simply picking up speed and weaving about in their pursuit.“I love it when people with reaction drives try to pursue me,” Thunderer's Captain said with relish. “Let them give chase; at a separation of two light seconds, begin evasive maneuvers, continuing to mimic an impulse-driven ship. At one-half light second, drop all pretense and execute the turn.”
The alien fighters closed, the light lag making aiming almost impossible. Then, at the point where they might have a chance to score a hit, Thunderer peeled away, taking advantage of the inertialess nature of its warp drives; a warp-equipped vessel of Thunderer's design could literally change its course just about as fast as the ship could be made to spin on its axis.
It was a maneuver the fighters couldn't match; with reaction drives, they had to kill off their velocity in one direction and begin acceleration in another. Worse still, the Vah warship had chosen to sheer off away from the system's primary, against its gravitational effect. For a warp-powered ship, this meant nothing; for a ship with reaction drives, it was one more influence working against the necessary change in course.
As the battlecruiser swept around the side of the alien formation, the fighters' glowing plasma exhaust highlighted their location. It was the perfect target, and Thunderer's gunners took full advantage of it, firing multiple warp-accelerated neutral particle bursts into the Cult fighter formation.

We'll veer away again to spinward, along with the drones.” Then the Gnich* added, almost as an afterthought, “They know we've got inertialess drives, so don't bother pretending otherwise.”
“If I don't miss my guess,” the Vah mused aloud, “They'll split into three equal groups.”
OOC: The drones emulate the heat output and gravitational signature of Thunderer (the latter through imitation of its warp field). The three contacts will veer away along a hyperbolic conic, rather than along a single plane (we fight in three dimensions).

By the way, can I have permission from someone to score a hit on a ship?)
As predicted, the fighters branched off towards each of the three targets, the swarms becoming disturbingly large. The pursuits were as of yet futile, as the Thunderer's maneuvering was proving too much for the little fighters.

By the way, can I have permission from someone to score a hit on a ship?)OOC: Depends on how much of a punch your missiles ... er, fighters pack. I generally see space combat as dodge ball with bazookas; one hit is all it should take to kill even the biggest ships.¹
Having only one ship to lose, I'm not quite ready to drop out of the thread just yet.
¹Per Robert J. Oppenheimer (chief scientist of the Manhattan Project), nothing can survive a direct hit by a boosted fission warhead with a yield of 150 kilotons (this is because a temperature of 10,000ºK will turn anything into plasma); so generally I only allow direct hits by missiles, torpedoes, and the like when I'm ready to lose a ship.

As the Tau forces left the molten remains of the Cyveron fleet the Capital ships Torpedo salvo launched. An observer would think that this move was far to late in the battle, as the Torpedo's streaked towards the wreaks of the enemy fleet. However, the Torpedo's target was not the wreaks, they were heading straight towards the planet instead. As they began to enter the atmosphere they all detonated, each giving off a huge EMP wave that cleared Km's of land below of Cyveron's heavy weapons. With no kind of air defence in that region the Cyverons we open to the Tau's next move...Nuclear bombardment!

B: As the Cyverons are similar (*Cougth*copys*Cougth*) to the Cybermen I am assuming that they are not immune to EMP based weapons, and since you have not stated other wise I have launched this attack, feel free to correct me if I am incorrect.[/QUOTE]
lol. :D How dare you suggest they're copied. They're just..... borrowed without permission in an exact way.
Errr, EMP don't effect my Cyverons, the only reason being that they would be really, really easy to beat if it did. They effect all Cyveron large weapons, but not them themselves.
IC: 'We have 3000 ships now in orbit around Arborius.' stated a Cyveron.
'Begin the attack!' ordered Cyveron 1.1. 'Begin with the alien empire that names itself the Federation. The other aliens may still be of use, we must capture and study them in order to determine whether or not they are suitable for transformation.'

OOC: Then my next volly will be of the nuclear type, though it will hit a sparsly populated area, to form a foothold for a ground invasion...Read up on Tau weapons while you still can!
