The German forces of Prussia, Baden, Bavaria, and Württemberg approach the French town of Wissembourg. They are prepared to attack any French located there. If the Germans arrive before the French the town is to be taken.

the local Gendarmes were the closest thing to a defending force but they had time to send a messenger out off the town as they watched the german forces cross the border and approach their home.

with no sign of the French army the Gendarmes did the only thing they could.

They ran up a white flag on the clock tower of the church so the towns population could be spared the shelling.

French forces now fully alerted went to their pre-arranged position in the case of an attack and a scouting force was sent into take a look. it was aided by cavalry on the flanks, infantry and snipers equiped with the new style rifle.

their orders were to determine the size of the German force and then withdraw so reinforcements could join them. At least that was the plan...

The cavalry scouts soon seen the German force near Metz.

With no real army strength to defend Metz it was a matter of time until it fell.

The scouts returned to their HQ with the news that the Germans meant business and now the French battleplan would swing into motion.

The Germans begin to siege Metz. However only half strength is thrown at the city: the other half is to guard against any French forces that may attack.

The scouts reports had now reached the French High Command and French forces all over the country were being mobilised.

Reservists were also being called up and men were leaving their women and familys.

However it would take time to assemble the armies and a scratch force was in the process of marching to Metz to aid the defenders in anyway they could and to keep the Prussians busy.

This was 2000 men with horse artilery and cavalry support. For now the future of France rested with these men.
