Blub Colony, Juno VII - Juno System

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Blub;
They are trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
They hath loosed the fateful lightning of their terrible swift sword;
I have seen them in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have built a city in the evening dews and damps;
I can read their righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
The Blubs go marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The Blubs go marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with contemners, so with you Blub grace shall deal”;
Let the Heros, borne from space, crush the serpent with their tentacles
They have sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
The Blubs go marching on!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The Blubs go marching on!

In the beauty of the stars Blubs were borne across the sea,
With a glory in their bosom that transfigures you and me:
They are coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
The wisdom to the mighty, and honor to the brave;
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The Blubs go marching on!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The Blubs go marching on!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The Blubs go marching on!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! The Blubs go marching on!
And the Blubs go marching on!

In the capital city of Juno VII, a great procession was underway. Long columns of Blubs were on the march, leaving the mustering grounds of the Blub Army HQ and moving in formation over the Great High Road Bridge and into the city.

Lining the streets were civilian Blubs, males, females and little ones. Many of them waved Blub flags in the air while singing along to the marching music being played over the emergency broadcast system in the streets.

Indeed, war had been coming ever since the Blubs arrived on Juno. Back then, they had been a tiny clutter of Blubs living in huts and communal buildings out in the Emerald Plains, far from the forests which threatened them so. However, the Blubs in their efficient, hard-working ways and with outside help, had developed technologies, aquired weaponry and supplies, and developed cities all over the Emerald Plains.

They had run out of room however. Without passing through the forests they could not reach the lush and fertile ground of the rest of the planet, could not establish larger farms, could not harness and harvest more of the natural resources.

But in the forests.. there lurked a terrible foe. The Blubs had encountered them rarely, but they still resided there. The Blubs called them Lenfolk. They were semi-intelligent humanoids. lizard-like in appearance but walking upright. At some point in the past they had aquired their own outside weapons, and together with the vehicles they had designed themselves, they had a dangerous arsenal.

Beyond that, there were a lot of the Lenfolk to deal with. Millions of them. Their warrior society produced near-psychopathic dedication to the martial ways, contrasting starkly with the Blub's smaller, but fiercely patriotic military.

The time for talk was done.

The time for war is now.

Eastern Forests, D-Day

Rhino Company, Striker Batallion
A platoon of Mobile Blub Deployment Vehicles (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11677273&postcount=7) chewed their way through the tall grass towards the edge of the forest. Escorting them was a squadron of M1 Blub Hover Tanks (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11703496&postcount=8) which quietly floated along in formation, their turrets slowly turning left and right as the gunners examined the treeline with enhanced optics.

In the lead M1, the gunner paused his sights on an odd-looking lump of .. something just inside the trees. When it moved, he squeaked to the tank commander, "Movement!" And when the object moved forward, the camo netting fell away, exposing a dual-barreled vehicle with tracks. "IFV or MBT, Two-o-clock!" The gunner pushed a button on his aiming handles, and an infrared laser beam reached out, bouncing off the enemy vehicle to determine its range. "Range six kilometers! Load HEAT!" The computer acknowledged by ramming a 225mm HIGH-EXPLOSIVE-ANTI-TANK round into the revolving gun feed.

The tank commander was chattering away on his radio, relaying information back to HQ as well as tapping at his computer screen with tentacles, adding 'contact' markers to Striker Batallion's integrated computer system. The contacts were flagged immedietly, and showed up on the screens of the other tanks.

Less than ten seconds after target identification, the gunner in the M1 squeezed both triggers, sending a round downrange. It made a bright orange streak as it made a ballistic arc, smoothly intercepting the hybrid Lenfolk vehicle. The round punched through the frontal turret armor, and exploded inside.

From the back of the hybrid ran a dozen of the Lenfolk, tall, muscular lizardpeople carrying rifles and other weaponry. A few seconds later, the vehicle detonated as fire reached its ammunition rack.

All down the line, contacts were made and fire was traded back and forth as other Lenfolk hybrid-tanks showed themselves. From wolf holes dug here and there, rocket-armed Lenfolk sprang up and opened fire.

Inside the MBDVs, the first wave of Mobile Blubs took their places on the air cannons. They double-checked their equipment, then armed the ejectors by flipping a switch. In the cockpits of the MBDVs, the vehicle technician made sure the cannons were aimed correctly, then hit his firing mechanism, which was currently slaved to all 10 tubes.

With heafty 'whumps!' the tubes fired, ejecting ten Blubs out of the vehicle, firing them through the air into high arcs. The Blubs flew outwards and upwards, then at about 25 meters off the ground, fired jetpacks. Lifting their gyrorifles, they began firing at the Lenfolk infantry.

All over the field, Blubs were falling out of the sky, cushioned by streams of jetpulse. The M1 tanks were still firing and now the MBDVs were firing their rocket pods while the second wave got into position inside of each one.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties and so bear ourselves that, if the Blub Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.' - Blub Churchill, Minister of Defense

Eastern Forests, D-Day +3

First Platoon, Rhino Company, Striker Batallion of the 1st Mobile Division
The MBDV (Mobile Blub Deployment Vehicle) rolled along through the sparcely wooded forests, still moving east. The MBDV's nose bore fresh armor plating, showing where it had taken a hit the day before. The left side of the vehicle had pockmarks, evidence of a near-miss from an enemy rocket.

In the back of the APC were twenty Blubs checking their jetpacks and other equipment. Several of them wore bandages over rapidly healing wounds recieved yesterday. 1st Platoon's objective today was to move forward until they encountered a suitable position to establish an OP.

The fighting had stalled out somewhat after the rapid progression made during the first two days. The Lenfolk had turned out in massive and overwhelming numbers. Each one of them insane with their warrior fury, throwing themselves at the out-numbered Blubs in suicidal frenzies. There were an estimated six hundred thousand Lenfolk in this forest alone, and slightly further south and west, Boxer Batallion and Grappler Batallion had been forced to stop and dig in against the fierce counter-attack.

On the northern flank of the division, Striker Batallion was still moving forward however. And at the very tip of the spearhead was 1st Platoon.

All at once, rockets errupted from the trees towards the APCs. The APCs blew defensive chaff tubes and went to jamming, while the Mobile Blubs inside began launching out into the forest, jetpacks flaring while they fired away with their assault rifles at anything moving which wasn't a Blub.
