The United Federation of Planets, also referred to as the Federation or UFP, is an interstellar state composed of planetary governments and colonies. The various members of the Federation are organized under the unifying goals of universal liberty, equality, peaceful coexistence, trade, science, exploration, and mutual defense. Its territory encompasses at least several dozen sectors in both the Omega and Psi Quadrants, spread across nearly 8,000 light years of space. As of stardate 3219.8, the Federation was spread across more than 1,000 worlds. In 2268 there were at least 30 members (, and by 2373, there were more than 150 members of the Federation, and over 1,000 semi-autonomous colonies.
The Federation is one of the most powerful interstellar states of the Omega Quadrant. Unlike the vast majority of other major and regional empires, where power is derived from a single dominant race that subjugate other nearby planets and species, all members of the Federation joined willingly and coexisted equally with other members. Although its multispecies origin has caused it to be labeled a "mongrel" power by some outsiders, its diverse origins have also given it a unique strength over the past 200 years.
The Federation is also famous for its technological resources and personnel. In particular, Federation engineers were respected as masters of technology, repair, and modification, even by enemies of the organization, such as the Galactic Empire.
Government
The Federation Assembly, consisting of delegations from all member races, sends proposals to the Federation High Council consisting of the Full members of the Federation. The Federation government is mostly concerned with interplanetary relations, and leaves the day to day running of the various members to themselves. Only the High Council can amend the Federation Charter, and issue directives to Star Fleet.
Economy
The Federation has a massive economy, built around large scale, inexpensive production of almost all consumer goods. No money is used for basic expenses, such as food, clothing or shelter. However, there is a basic unit of exchange called the Federation credit, which is used in transactions with non-Federation members (alternatively, there may be several different types of credits, such as "transporter credits"). Advances in technology and a drastic shift in public attitudes towards wealth made traditional currencies obsolete in the 22nd Century, ushering in the New World Economy. The introduction and advancement of replicators during the mid-to-late 24th century also drastically changed the orientation of the economy, as matter-energy conversion reduced the cost of most small- to medium-scale objects to practically nothing. Large-scale construction was efficiently handled, as well.
As many would have it, the driving force behind Federation society was no longer the acquisition of wealth, but rather self-enhancement and the benefit of all. Perhaps ironically, entrepreneurship was encouraged. The traditional benefits of entrepreneurship, profit and personal gain were replaced by goals of personal enjoyment and improvement, often manifested in the form of a new service to fill social needs and expressions.
The various systems of the Federation are generally rich in natural resources, although their intrinsic worth has changed as the replicators reduced the need for most refined and semi-refined materials. Other materials, such as latinum, which were more time and energy demanding, were often traded for with non-Federation planets. One of the most valuable minerals was dilithium, which was critical in regulating the matter-antimatter reactions in the Federation's power generators.
Member worlds of the Federation who possessed resources unavailable elsewhere, were obligated to provide consignments of the substances in times of emergency. Such transfers were often facilitated by the Federation Starfleet, as in the delivery Ardanan zenite to the plague-ridden world of Merak II in 2269.
Members
* Humans: Originating from Rhoecat, Humans are the most numerous in Star Fleet, and in many ways the most aggressive, militarily and economically. Much of the internal stress within the Federation is from the other races trying not to be overwhelmed by the Humans.
* Hazserians: Very simmiler to humans. Only diffrences is they are telipathic.
* Rayenthbelian: Native to Rayenthbel , the Rayenthbels are a matriarchal society, born of a time when warfare had devastated the male population. While there are no laws or such restricting male activity, few join Star Fleet. Rayenthbels are biologically so close to human that they may interbreed and has led to speculation of 'seeding.'
* Fesercers: Red with while highlights skinned natives of Fesercer, they were appalled that some races outside the Federation were still conquering, rather than working with, weaker powers. As a result, while the Humans may have the highest number in Star Fleet, the Rigellians have the highest percentage of their overall population serving.
* Athverems: Perceived as humorless and easily irritable, the blue skinned, antennaed natives of Athverem were one of the last to give up their separate fleet.
* Vouphnys: Former Kzinti subjects, the people of Vouphnys became part of the Federation with the declaration of the border in Y102. A major reason for the Second Federation-Kzinti War was their desire to regain Vouphnys and its technological gifted population. Vouphnys became a Full Member during the War. The Vouphnys gift with technology is attributed to the visit of the Sky Fathers in their ancient history. As a result, the Vouphnys are the most likely to violate the Prime Directive as they seek to spread this gift.
Planets
All the planets in the United Federation of Planets are in the same system.
Rhoecat: Home of the Humans and the Capital of the UFP.
Hazseria: Home of the Hazserians. Home of Star Fleet. Main Ship yard.
Rayenthbel: Economic Capital of the UFP. Home to Rayenthbelians.
Fesercer: Home to Fesercers.
Athverem: Home to Athverems.
Vouphn: Home to Vouphnys.
OOC: Sorry for the star trek run off. I know some people are going to have a fit. But I'm a Treky so im going to try this out. [/I]
