The bees, the bees! (FT Intro)

They came out of nowhere.
Surging through a freak wormhole came a force like none other. They called themselves... Goonswarm.

Realizing where they were, the Goons began to build a new nation. Within a week of their arrival, they controlled multiple (uninhabited) star systems, and were building space stations, harvesting the asteroid fields, and in general prospering.

This ended with the arrival of a pirate fleet that attacked the fledgling nation. Or it would have, had the goons not unleashed their classic attack method on the pirates. The last words of the pirates were reputed to be,
"Oh G-d, the bees, the bees!"

OOC: Goonswarm is a player alliance in the MMORPG EVE Online. I am going to do my take on Goonswarm's nature - they will be insane, powerful, and quite fun. All ships and weapons will be taken straight out of the game.

OOC: Actually, I'm a veteran. Now-dead nations include Maeri, Shalaam, and New Jovia. Current alts are Mirkana, the Far Realms, the Alaskan Federation, and Tanal.

The Galaxy's Hand, though scattered across the galaxy by the Draconic Order, was still strong enough to engage in lucrative pirate activity. The loss of a fleet to an unknown weapon was a heavy blow, but one that afforded another opportunity. If there was a weapon powerful enough to stop their fleets, then it could be used to fight the DO. A group of three corvettes jumped into the system where the fleet stood frozen, a day after the attack, to assess and secure this weapon from the graveyard.

OOC: There was no 'secret weapon', the goons just swarmed with overwhelming firepower, combined with innumerable drones. They have a lot of small frigates and destroyers, a few cruisers, and at the moment, one battleship, along with several non-combat vessels. The pirate fleet was simply outnumbered.
I'm going to assume that your corvettes are the equivalent of one of my frigates. When you scan my ships, you will detect only one (very healthy) biosign on board, as capsule technology means that you only need one man to pilot even the mightiest of warships.

IC:
The corvettes were spotted by an Iteron-class industrial that was picking up scrap. The pilot, a goon by the name of Bloody Elisa, asked to open communications with one of them.

((Right, well the pirates said bees... so they thought that there was a weapon that had something to do with bees. Info on DO. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8381392#post8381392)))

The lead craft opened the comms channel and waited silently.

Meanwhile, in celebration of their victory, the Goonfleet aired one of their favorite propaganda videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D1sgHzfSTA&mode=related&search=).
OOC: This will give you an idea of what Goonswarm is really like.

Transmission to GoonSwarm

We are the lost tribe of Caldari, the Achura that disappeared during a wormhole collapse to our section of the galaxy. We open our arms to our brothers that have returned.

Informal chat being the norm among the Goons, Bloody Elisa got straight to the point.
"Who are you, and where are you from?"

Informal chat being the norm among the Goons, Bloody Elisa got straight to the point.
"Who are you, and where are you from?"

The lead ship responded, its translator sending out the message in galactic standard.

<We are mercenaries who have heard that the pirates we were pursuing lost themselves in this system. We came to find out who slagged our pay.>

"Oh, they entered our space and attacked a few miners. Command sent out the fleet and we destroyed them. So if you're looking for whoever destroyed them, you're basically looking for half of the combat pilots in the nation."

After that, Bloody Elisa had another thought.

"Does your contract state that you must specifically destroy them?"

There was silence for a moment.

<Bounties are never that specific, just proof of the deed is required...>

On board the vessel, they were trying to absorb that the system has a lot of ships.

"OK, so if I were you, I would simply tell your employers that you wiped out the pirates. Show them the debris field as proof. No need to mention us."
OOC: Giving advice in this manner is pretty common on EVE.

On the edge of the system The Federation starship USS-Ykele dropped out of Warp. In command of the Ykele was Captain James Hughes. The Ykele is a Sovereign class Starship.

"Sir we've just dropped out of Warp. I'm picking up a number of unknown ships."

"Open hailing frequencies. Helm move to intercept."

"Aye Sir."

"Hailing frequencies open to all unknown ships."

"Unknown Craft. This is Captain Hughes of the Federation starship Ykele. We come in peace and wish to make contact with your government. Please respond."

Eldemar, CEO of Goonfleet (the military wing of Goonswarm), sent the following response:
Captain Hughes, I am the commander of Goonfleet. Welcome to our space.
Meanwhile, Eldemar sent a recon pilot to scan the incoming ship. Results came in soon.
"Judging by the size and defenses, I'd peg this as a battlecruiser. Pretty impressive shields, but only four weapons mounts - two beam arrays and two missile launchers. She can probably dish out the hurt, though."
OOC: I know what a Sovereign-class starship is like. I am trying to judge it by EVE standards. Four weapons mounts - especially on a battlecruiser - is considered pretty low."

The Leviathan class Cruiser pulled out of warp space near the debris field of the pirate fleet. Captain Abramov surveyed the carnage with awe and longing. "Send out the scavengers, we can salvage some of this debris and pick up ssome good profit."
At that moment the comm officer reported, "Detecting unknown comms in the area captain, opening hailing frequencies... Sir we have visual."
Captain Abramov looked at the forward view screen. In the distance, even at maximum magnification, he could only see what looked like thousands of little bees, but at that range, they would be small frigates.... thousands of them. "Oh dear... well, since they may buy some of this salvage, let's go introduce ourselves."

Noticing that the weapon, was in fact, hundreds of small frigates, the ships turned toward out-system.

<We shall do so, goodbye.>

The ships move to leave.

Daily intel briefing, Starbase 69
Command Level Restriction

"One of our deep space probes detected something interesting today, Sir. The data is only coming in now, but it looks like there was a battle between a number of unidentified vessels... here, just a short time ago and there are a number of ships, all with different energy signatures, converging on the location" an intelligence officer said, pointing to a red dot on the star chart in front of the Admiral.
"Dispatch a vessel to clandestinely observe that area, If there is a major conflict begining I want it covered." Admiral Vrelck ordered.

The only vessel in Starbase 69's attached forces with the capability to reach the site in a reasonable amount of time, observe from a distance, and remain undected was a unique surveillance vessel from a forgotten project. Stationed in a ground based hangar, the ship and its crew had been placed on standby for an inagural mission since the program was cancelled and the lone prototype was commisioned as a corvette into the fleet. Minutes after the order was recieved, the crew launched thier vessel, the "PHX Popcorn" and started heading for the cooridinates in deep space. Once they broke orbit, the entire vessel glimmered and shimmered for a half a second before dissapearing in space as the cloaking device was activated.

As the Cruiser sped towards the massed ships in the distance it became clear that in fact, these ships were frigates, little frigates. Same weaponry as a frigate with about 1/2 the size. A marvelous design.
