(OOC:
I had a bit of a revelation today. I havent made a serious effort to get back into NS in some time, and for a LONG time, Ive been making ads for offsite forums.
Now I see that NS is steadily losing membership and activity, and I feel somewhat guilty, and responsible for what is happening here. Agree or disagree as you will, this isnt an arguement thread :P
So, Ive decided to put some real effort into NS, a payback of sorts.
This RP is open to anybody, provided they arent total idiots and can do things like hit the 'enter' key and know where to apply quotation marks.
Most importantly, I REALLY want this to be a newb friendly RP. I look around NS and note a distinct lack of newbie-friendly RPs, lots of 'CLOSED' and 'Earth (whatever)' type stuff, and a few other threads which imply that 'outsiders' arent welcome.
If this goes well, which it hopefully we can get a whole string of events springing off of this RP.

This post, of course, assumes that there are still some Chaos worshippers out there. I know they were popular last time I was around, so there should be a few left ;))

G'oaway was silent. For a city of over one hundred million, this was quite a feat.
Of course, it was the silence of a million people in the crowd waiting with baited breath. A million people assembled in the cities main square, along its various roads, and on the roofs of a number of buildings. All with their gaze fixed on a single spot, on a single man.
The Tsar.
Those that could see him knew that he was not a handsom man. He had a snub nose, and his head was slightly too long, as if it had been pressed between two boards. His skin was tanned, but it was the slightly artificial looking tan of one who was only tanned during public occasions. You could make exceptions for some people though.
But it was the face of a God, to these people at least, the face of the man who had taken a broken, bleeding nation and forged from its ruins a mighty Empire, containing a hundred worlds. Sure, other Empires had more, but what did that matter?
"Dontgonearthere, welcome!"
A massive cheer rose from the crowd, amplified by the dome over the city.
"Dontgonearthere, for a long, long time, our nation languished under petty warlords, eeking out their pathetic kingdoms throughout the decades, thinking in their folly that they were making Dontgonearthere strong!
That era has passed. The warlords are dead, their armies disbanded, and their capitols leveled.
"But, we are not finished. Out there, across the galaxy, across the Universe, agents of the enemy, heretics and traitors, sit in idleness, having grown weak in the past centuries, thinking themselves mighty in the absence of greater power!
"Forces of Chaos, rouge nations, many threats face the civilized nations of the Galaxy.
"We will, through our collective effort, purge this galaxy, and the next, and the one after that, of these rouge elements, these chaotic fiends, and any who oppose this Crusade!
"But, we face challenges in this effort. Our allies of old are either fallen to the temptations of Chaos, or have vanished from the universe. For this reason, as Tsar, I have announced the recommissioning of two of the mighty Piledriver class of battleships, the IDS War and the IDS Pestilence, with these ships, as well as many otheres of the Dontgonearthere Imperial Navy, our first target, secret as yet, shall stand no chance! A million men stand poised to descend on our foes and smash all resistance to dust, to bury our foes beneath tombs of their own houses and the corpses of their allies!
"People of Dontgonearthere, Citizens of our mighty Empire! We shall rise again! We shall defeat any who oppose us!
More cheering, more adoration. The Tsar, supreme in all matters, gave a final wave before retiring into the palace.

S'alais Jirex was, in the grand scheme of things, a relativly innocent person. Sure, sometimes he overcharged for produce, and maybe slipped in a few items that were past their due date, but, unfourtunatly for him, he was in the wrong place the day the sky caught on fire.
The world labled as M-1688-6 on the Dontgonearthere astrographic charts, known as Makal to those who lived on it, was a haven for Chaos worshippers. Infesting every village with their seemingly-pious ranting, they had gradually integrated the Dark Gods into the local religion. The effects were not prominient yet, but the infection was permenant. No longer could the clergy simply be cut away like a gangernous limb, for the whole body was infected now.
Jirex was taking a break from tilling a field, the local equivalent of grain. As he admired the excellent vista provided by the combination of the mid-summer sun and the mountains. Then, as he watched, one of the mountains disappeared. A beam of light, so bright that it dazzled him, remained in its place. A huge colum, reaching from the foundation of the mountain up past the sky, into space.
He looked up just in time to see the flames of a DGNT assault pod before it landed on him.

(OOC:
As noted, this RP is wide open. Whether you use Warhammer, Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, something else or your own inventions, as long as its not blatant godmoddery, it works for me.)

OOC: DGNT! How well I remember you! And yes, let us ally against the scourge of Chaos! Let us learn each other's abilities and strengths so that together, we can rule the galaxy! BTW, what's your MSN and/or IRC again?

IC:

The fires of war was well-stoked inside the belly of the Coredian Star Destroyer Vengeance and its escorts. The ship, an upgraded version of the already-powerful Imperial MK II, slid through the darkness of space with all the graceful ease of a Naboo sea monster as it happened upon the system that was currently being punished by DGNT.

"Hello...what's this?" The Captain asked, turning his head towards one of the many sensor suites on the bridge.

"Captain, we're detecting Chaos influence, plus a nation that we sort of met long ago named Dontgonearthere or DGNT for short. It appears to me that Chaos is getting its ass kicked here. Pretty bloody way of doing so, if you ask me."

A wan smile appeared on Captain Helios' face. "Very well. Hail the DGNTs. Ask them for an audience and if they need any assistance in crushing the enemy."

"Yes, sir!"

"Dontgonearthere ships! This is Captain Helios of the CSD Vengeance! We were wandering by when we can't help but learn that there is much Chaos around here! Do you need assistance?"

IC:
The Piledriver IDS War sat in orbit, in much the way an asteroid does before smashing into the thing it orbits, wiping out all life. It, like the Tsar, was not a handsom ship. A huge rounded rectangle nearly thirty five miles long, with four huge cannon (nearly a mile long in themselves) protruding from the front end.
Admiral Sergei Petrov, however, thought it was the brightest jewel in the galaxy. He liked it so much that he had paid, from personal funds, to have it painted blood red, like its namesake. It was still ugly, but it looked really cool.
The ship shuddered again, and Petrov smiled.
Another few square miles of planetary surface vanished, another potential stronghold was vaporized.
"Admiral, incoming transmission. Another ship is now in-system, Ive got the Boyar covering them. Theyre asking if we need assistance."
Petrov alllowed his grin to widen, "Patch them through, the Tsar noted that this is a...public crusade, haha." The coms officer held up a thumb, "CSD Vengance, this is the War, we do not require your assistance for this particular operation. However, we have a galaxy to cleanse as well, and while our fleet is large, it would take some time to cover that amount of space. We would be pleased if you would join our Crusade."
The War unleashed another blast from its main guns at that point, vaporizing a city.

Sergeant Kuril kicked in the door of the local chapel. He was an imposing figure by himself, but the addition of powered armour added fully a foot to his height, and the rather large gun he was holding only added to the aura of fear.
It appeared that the entire village had gathered here.
Not hesitating, Kuril stomped to the altar at the fore of the church, where the priest was cowering.
Sure enough, he was wearing the raiment of a Chaos worshippper, and when he spoke, it was even more obvious.
"Whispeeeeeers in the daaark! Chaos is strong, Chaos knows you are here!" He fumbled with something under his robes, drawing out a long, thin knife, which he proceded to draw across each of his cheeks, giving himself a permenant grin.
Kuril rolled his eyes and shot the man in the head.
He then turned to look at the rest of the worshippers. Mostly there was fear, but the taint of chaos was on them, and one or two were showing open hatred now.
After exiting the church he signaled two of his fellow NCO's, whose powered armour was somewhat enhanced over that of the average recruit. These uprooted a moderatly sized tree and used it to seal the churches door.
"Fire cleanses all, and let us hope it can cleanse the souls of these people!" Kuril said, he did not need to shout, the com system of the suit was enough to carry his voice to everybody who needed to hear it.
Shortly thereafter, the fires were out. The combination of plasma and standard flamethrowers reduced most structures to carbon in a matter of minutes. Not a stick of timber remained, no nails or bolts. No bones either.

This event was repeated across the planet, mostly at the 'official' churches and shrines, but on a number of homes as well, where unnofficial 'shrines' were discovered. These were often more 'developed' than their official comrades. Sacrifices were discovered in these places, both the locals and animals, no doubt the few who activly opposed Chaos had been killed in this manner, their souls consumed by the Dark Gods.
It took fully three weeks, but the planets cities were reduced to rubble, the population reduced to a few thosand, and all traces of civilization wiped out.
Within three weeks, the world was considered 'sanitized'. Not a trace of Chaos remained.

The fairly ambitious captain grinned. "Very well! Where do you need us?"

The CSD continued to scan the battle, taking in information on DGNT and enemy forces. The High Council, while officially they dislike the idea of killing civilians, even Chaos, would still be interested in how to deal with such evil. After all, the #1 enemy of Coreworlds is Chronosia...

Ooc> Ok, let’s try this again.

Ic> Just barely within sight of Makal’s sack, a sleek, black ship floated silently through space, simply observing and collecting data. The vessel was a deadly Hunter Destroyer, a class of ship often employed by the Gronde Navy. This particular ship had a number of noticeable modifications, such as extra missile pods, shields, and differently shaped engines. The ships head officer collected data in the observation room and sent them back to locations within the Warp.

“Are you guys getting all of this?” asked a quiet, dark voice. A few moments of static followed.

“Affirmative, Commander” replied a female voice from the Comm. screen. Head back Christoph, we’ve seen enough. Oromov is calling a meeting.”

Understood, Commodore. The brown-haired man nodded and the destroyer seemingly melted into space without another sound.

Within the deadly vortex Warp, protected by a shielded bubble, a modest formation Great Forge warships sat idle. The center of the fleet was occupied by a four KM long Battle Barge, clearly the command ship, two carriers, and a few Battleships and Dreadnoughts of varying sizes and classes. Surrounding them were a collection of cruisers, Hunter Destroyers, large Frigates, and, finally, a screen of smaller support class capital ships; it was a standard Naval Group according to Gronde organization. They were all the dark burgundy of the Elite Exhibitioner Fleet. The only vessels not fitting into this structure were three jet black ships hovering just above the main grouping. One was a modified Battle Barge, and the other two were Hunter Destroyers. All three displayed license decals of private military contractors; mercenaries.

All the important officers were currently discussing the situation via comm. screens.

“…And you’re sure of this?” asked a stern faced grey haired man.

“Yes, Admiral,” replied the brown haired commander. “I heard it myself.”

“What do you propose we do, Oromov?” asked the female Commodore.

“I’m not sure,” replied the older man. “You know as well as I do that our government doesn’t give a damn about this ‘chaos infestation’ in the galaxy. We may as well stay out of this.”

“True,” chimed in a black haired mercenary officer with a strong chin. All eyes were on him now, because he wasn’t simply a mercenary. He was Captain Shryker of the infamous Deathsting Squadron, arguably the greatest fighter band of the age. “But they do care about money, territory, manpower, and raw materials. We’re not due for a refit for another few months. I say we assist these crusaders and do our best to turn a profit.”

“An interesting suggestion, Shryker,” replied the admiral. “But it’s risky. How do you plan on making this work?”

“Quite simply, my good admiral…”

***Transmission to DGNT vessel “War”***

Greetings, I am Admiral Oromov of the Gronde Exhibitioner Fleet. We have heard of your mission and wish to offer out assistance in this venture.

"Thank you very much." The Captain said. "We shall be at the planet momentarily."

With that, the Star Destroyer and its posse of escorts gracefully slipped into hyperspace. Momentarily, oddly enough, would mean at the same time as the DGNT fleet due to a tiny quirk in the hyperspatial physics of the hyperspace wormhole.

To Admiral Oromov,
Assistance may be required at planet M-2066-3. You can find it in the DGNT astrographic database if you are interested. Most of our funds have been alocated to military buildup, however, if you wish, you may take whatever loot you want from the planets themselves, as their occupants will not have any use for them once the work is done.

Planet M-2066-3, the Idedes System
The silence of the void was briefly interrupted by more silence, only this silence was accompanied by a flash and some unpleasant bendings of reality as void gave birth to mass.
Unlike M-1688-6, this was no 'warm up', this was a real assault on a heavily fortified Chaos world, as the poisonous tint to the atmosphere and the rivers of blood testified, even from space. To those in command, this world was a scab, a blistered sore on the face of the universe, whose inhabitants lived soley to summon forth more chaotic energies and beings.
The DGNT battle group was here to put a stop to that. Twenty ships, including the Piledriver Pestilence and two massive fleet carriers, with enough drop ships and fighteres to subjigate an entire system.

CoreWorlds ships, nice to see you. We advise you take the anti-spinward flank, we will move forward at %12 lightspeed once the fleet is in formation, and stop five hundred kilometeres from the planet. Is this acceptable to you?

OOC: Just a quick couple of questions:
What MSN and/or IRC sig do you possess?

Which way is the planet spinning, east to west or west to east?

IC:
"That is acceptable." The Captain answered with a nod. Five hundred kilometers? Pretty low orbit if you ask me...the task force can handle it though.

The Vengeance taskforce (Consisting of the ISDII, two Strike Cruisers, three Nebulon Heavy Frigates, and one Victory Star Destroyer II) began maneuvering as the DGNT fleet commander suggested, and battlestations was called as a major Chaos influence was detected on the planet. Weapons were primed, shields were raised and ECM stations prepared to jam enemy communications.

After having been silent since their single message, the Gronde fleet formation arrived at the Idedes System a few minutes following Coreworlds. The trio of black ships were at point. The reason for this was, given the heavily defended and entrenched state of the planet, air superiority would be important if losses were to be light; Captain Shryker planned on making sure this happened.
