I was wondering. What are the defenses for a Nuclear Attack on a nation on Nation States?

OCC: Most nations have ABM's which are missiles that shoot down ICBM's and other nations also have space and plane-bourn COIL lasers that can also intercept these nukes.

what it have experienced is for that the most parts you don't need any defence against a nuclear attack. In most cases the whole RP seams to die after a nuclear attack.

I personally use a brilliant pebble system, with some bomb-pumped space-based lasers as well. Not really a fan of plane-based laser systems, as their effective range is rather short, requiring them to be within SAM/interceptor range of the silo to take down an ICBM. That and Brilliant Pebbles can allow for ortillery usage if you make your pebbles large enough.

It all depends on what form the attack takes, although the most common means is by the use of Inter Continental Ballistic Missle (ICBM) and it's brothers the Intermediate Range Ballistic Missle (IRBM) and the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missle (SLBM).

Since most upto date ICBMs use some form of Multiple Independent Rentry Vehicle (MIRV) system you really have to kill them during the launch segment or "boost phase" of thier flight which is very difficult to do using straight modern tech equipment where you are limited to either interceptor missiles/gun rounds launched from close to the launch point or some kind of airborne laser system which again has to be fairly close to the launch point.
If you move to PMT then space based directed energy weapon (DEW)systems can be used to engage missiles during the boost phase.

Your next opertunity to engage the missiles is just as they leave the atmosphere about the time that they release thier MIRVs, it is here that MT space based energy weapons come into play.

The final opertunity is as the MIRVs enter the atmosphere and descend to thier targets, here you would use the same weapons as during the boost phase but things get a lot more difficult as each missile launched has split into 10-20 different targets.

This is just a breif summary and there are a few more unusual means of defence but it should give you a breif overveiw, for RL background look up the US "starwars" and Ballsitic Missile Sheild (son of starwars) programs.
