Debt and Loyalty

Snide and quiet the silver sphere crossed the cosmos like a creeping tide. Its form synomonous with destruction, its name chilling the very bones of those who dare oppose the Emperor eternal. The Death Star and her battlegroup were entering the newly crowned sector of Mationbuds.

Within the command section was not the emperors personal hound, or lax slaves in the form of a Grand Admiral or two. But it was he himself; Darth Sidious, dark lord of the Sith.

The empire is vast, its boundaries stretch into infinity and beyond. Surely there is no greater imposition than the emperor himself. All know that his hand stretches far, all are aware of its grip pointed and unrelenting. And in the sector of Mationbuds, at the heart of the new order, the gauntlet was needed. Rebellion is stirring.

Within the spherical bastion, Palpatine rested on his opulent command chair, its soft leather and myriad of buttons gave him the knowing comfort of power. Some thought they knew what true power was, some believed that it was obtained through tyranny and destruction, yes, a little. But the ways of Palpatine are far more subtle. Power is obtained by the hand of mercy, by pulling those too weak to defend themselves into debt. For life, for eternity.

The star lines collapsed into a flurry of white speckles each one glittering in the distance.

"Sector Command; the Emperor demands you make ready for his arrival."

The emperor studied the holomap of his empire. Great sections lay in blue, multitudes of planets and systems sworn to the New Order and feverent in the belief of the Siths superiority over the Jedi. The hazy blue image faded for a moment as it refocused upon the sector of Mationbuds; deeply clothed in red.

"Ignorance is desired in pawns of the throne. But outright defiance of an edict; now that is bold." Palpatine almost smiled at the arrogance of his new Moff.

"It may be that the rebellion has infiltrated this sector, if so drastic measures will have to be taken." Tarkin moved from behind the hologram. "The Coredians are currently attempting to coerce the Twileks, and have been refused by the Hutts. They seem rather intent upon plunging the Galaxy back into civil war."

"I have felt no such actions here." Darth Sidious stated with fact. "The schemes of the Jedi are not at work."

Tarkin paced slowly towards a wall console. "Perhaps then, we have a simple traitor in our midst's?"

"Perhaps. Which is why it is time to remind our citizens the price of treason." The emperor flicked a small switch on the rest of his throne. "Commander, alert our guest that I desire his presence."

"Cabot?" Tarkin asked perched next to the emperor.

"Yes, I believe a Chronosian vessel is already in orbit. It will be necessary to secure their delegation before I proceed to the planet. In the meantime admiral. Deploy my honour guard."

Below the ominous sight of the Death Star, a flight of transports and shuttles swarmed from the endless bays and hangers of the fleet. Ship after ship descended each one bearing the emperors personal legion. His honour guard numbering into the thousands. The capital of Mationbuds would soon resemble the Imperial Palace in preparation for the emperors descent.

From deep within the immense battle station, the Primarch of the Wolfsbane Legion came upon the Throne Room, bowing lightly as he came before the Emperor. He was built like some feral God of slaughter, built and bred for war. Blonde hair adorned his head, drawn into tight dreadlocks at the back of his head, his flesh was tanned and well-scarred, showing the marks of battle as proudly as medals. His armor was red and gold and brass, like the ancient armour of some gladiatorial champion, or a warrior from distant lore. He was an imposing figure, made more so by the gilded and bare skulls that decorated his armour, whether lining his belt, plated into his shoulders, or mounted upon the spikes that lined his back and broad shoulders, a mantle of bleached bone.

He had been appointed, in his glorious role as Chronosian Warmaster and Remiel's chosen Regent, to act as the link between Empire and Imperium. He was Remiel's voice to the Emperor, and the direct tool through which military decisions would be dictated. A great, terrible and intimidating figure, the Primarch had been declared as the perfect tool to enforce the divine will of the Emperors.

He smiled, bearing ferally sharp teeth, gleaming white enamel. "You have need of me, my Lord?" He bowed his head. "What would the throne of Coruscant ask of the Imperium, its brothers in arms?"

I need your sword Cabbot, beside me upon the surface of this wretched world. The sector is in open revolt, their leader in direct objection to my will. It is, unacceptable.” Palpatine nodded to his favoured Admiral.

“We are proposing a direct diplomatic envoy to appeal to the planets sense of self survival. The Death Star in orbit should cow any direct attempts of insurgence while the newly bloated Imperial garrison will see to the security of the capital itself.” The Moff clicked a small control and the holoimage changed. “The Emperor will descend in a cloaked shuttle securely held within the hanger bay of the Imperial Star Destroyer Raven, from there onwards she will depart and land here in the newly formed theatre command post. We anticipate the sectors current Moff Darth Matter to meet the emperor upon his arrival.

Intelligence has confirmed Coredian cells operating on the planet, thusly security must be tight. We recommend the withdrawal of your delegation to the Raven until the sector has been pacified.”

The Emperor rose slowly. “I will require your assistance in my personal protection Cabot. Are you capable?”

"You have my blades, Lord Emperor. These fools have defied you, and my own Emperor. They have defied the joint wills of Empire and Imperium and turned their faces from the Emperor's light. They deserve only the mercy of fire that is the ruination of Heresy. They shall see the folly of their ways, or they shall die."

He smiled softly, hefting his great chainaxes as he looked down upon the world which they had come to. A rebel world. To think of such a thing within the Empire was to think of the Masaki's and their taint, to be reminded of rank and arrogant defiance, and the mouldering stench of Heresy.

"As you will it, so shall it be done. I shall be at your side, and we shall bring this world back into the fold.

As the Death Star approached , 4 massive Super Star Destroyers were dispatched ... to escort the Death Star .

As it approached , the Planetary Superlasers and Superlaser Platforms swung their massive cannons at the Death Star as a standard security measure .

The Emperor's flagship was also activated and all superweapons on stanby , including the much dreaded Resonance Torpedoes lest they dare do anything foolish .

10 Imperial Star Destroyers guided the Death Star to an docking station and requested all shields and weaponary to be powered down . Massive Ion Cannons swung to aim at the Death Star if it did not do as ordered ...

The Coredian cell in question was a small number of operatives that managed to sneak into Mationbuds using Imperial craft in response to the Mationbuds assaults a while back. Their orders were to gather intelligence on Mationbuds and report back to the High Council.

But today, that order was rescinded when the Death Star appeared in orbit. The operatives could do nothing but watch and wait for the Empire to finish whatever it needs to do today. Their only hope was that they would survive long enough to report back to the Council...

The Death Star did not power down, nor did her weapons cease to aim. Instead the Emperor immortal dispatatched several transmissions around the sector alerting all Golan V platforms of their duty. The Mationbuds were gifted these stations for protection, but they had agreed to keeping them under Imperial control. With a simple transmission, the vast stations altered their firing solutions to the Mationbuds planets, installations and shipyards which they protected. Controlled by Imperial battledroids, and without atmosphere the stations were the perfect sector control tool.

Hardcoded, and still in Imperial hands, the guns turned towards Matiobuds units and installations.

"This is Imperial High Command. By direct order of his Imperial Majesty you are ordered to deactivate all weapons platforms, and dock all starships. Lest you suffer the consequences."

The fleet disperesed to Intercept the Super Star Destroyers, and the Death Star herself charged to full power in defence of the Immortal Emperor.

OOC: The Golan V stations are still under my control, under our MSN agreements. And since you ignored the Coredian war they are in fact still fully operational. Return your ships to your dock, or we will exterminate your nation. This need not be a military affair Mationbuds.

The commlink gently activated eminating the fastidious tone of Moff Telat. "The Maten sector forces have been cowed before you Majesty. Their ships and weapons are being laid to port and ground. The planet, I am happy to report is now secure for your descent to the surface."

The throne swivelled gently as the emperor turned to Cabot. "Warmaster, I feel it is necessary to demonstrate our unity. Prepare your terminators and mechanised forces. Your warriors are now charged with my protection on this troubled world." The frail emperor rose from the throne. "Come my friend." His arm extended for an aides support. "Let us descend to the planet. Let us restore unity to this broken shard."

Shuttles, ships, swarms of Tie Fighters and frigates each darkened the skies of the trembling world below. The emperor immortal escorted by fighters, gunships, Victory Star Destroyers and World Devastates from the mighty Death Star swarmed his political opponent with military suppression. The Dark Side of the force was with him, the currents, the tide of power flowing in tandem with Palpatines will. Flowing through him, as through he were the chalice of life.

The landscape came into view of the Emperors shuttle now drifting gently towards his designated landing platform. Standing on his right, was Cabot, rigid and at attention his face showing no visible sign of emotion. And to his left was Mas Amedda one of Palpatines oldest advisors.

The gentle craft rocked to its landing and the emperor rose, contorted cane in hand. With Cabot at his side, and advisors closely flanking Darth Sidious left the Imperial shuttle for the Maten city world. Before him the honour guard were prepared, a vast corridor of terminators and storm troopers each holding their arms at ready in visible respect for conquest. From the gathering on Coruscant whereby Cabot had sworn his position of trust as link between Empire and Imperium, he had come, along with his finest. Upon the surface of the world, the immense Terminator Marines dwarved even the conventional warriors of the III Legion, more akin to the hulking might of their Primarch. The Terminator armour gleamed, blood-polished plate alive with dedications and oaths of fealty to the Blood God. Each carried an immense Chainaxe, larger than the conventional Wolfsbane issue, and had a Combi-bolter grafted onto the other.

Cabot oversaw their deployment, Terminator,Havocs and Devestator Marines of the First Company at the side of Dreadnoughts that had fought since the time of the Fall and great Predator Battle Tanks, each lining the path that the Emperor would take. At the side of the Emperor's shuttle there stood a Imperator Cruor Vult pattern Battle Titan, immense beyond reckoning, almost 150 metres high, it stood as a symbol of the Emperor's wrath and the divine fire of Khorne, a gift from Remiel to his bond-brother Palpatine, offered by Remiel's Blood Brother and Warmaster, Cabot.

Cabot who now stood at the right hand of Palpatine as the thunder-faced enforcer. His armour was ornate, gold and brass lined the red of his plate, a great black and red eye set into the breastplate. Across his back were strapped the two immense crimson-edged chainswords, Gorefiend and Wrathchild, weapons that had killed on a hundred worlds. As Remiel was a figure of dark awe and silent fear, so Cabot was the obvious symbol of the Imperium's fury, a name whispered on a thousand thousand worlds in evident fear and screamed warning of his passing.

Cabot, Warmaster. Cabot, Primarch. Cabot, Battle-Brother. Cabot, Warmaster-Elect and Castellan of Coruscant.

It was obvious that Darth Matter ruled his sector with military fear and reprisal, the dictatorship easy to topple and the subordinates always ambitious. If it was necessary, a change of leadership could be implemented easily...

Cabot accompanied the Emperor, ever at his side, while his own retinue went with him. His First Captain, gleaming in Terminator plate along with those Chosen Terminators who served as his Honor Guard. In black and red armour, adorned with runes of Khorne and the Eight Pointed Star, there came Dark Apostle Avitus, grasping the staff of his hissing crozius, its dark blades hungry for blood. And finally, adorned in a regal blue, standing out amongst those proud and feral warriors in scarlet, came the Sorceror. He had no name, deserving none in the service of the Warmaster, who frowned upon the use of trickery and magic save in the interests of drawing forth Daemons in the name of Khorne.

As they took their positions at the Emperor's side, mingling with his own aides, forming a key show of unity amongst brothers. The Imperium backed the Imperial Truth with a brute force and a sadistic cunning, its iterators as much skilled in preaching compliance to Palpatine as the worship of the Gods. Remembrancers of later ages would see the show of power as an affirment of the Imperium's commitment to the Empire, and the ancient bond of brotherhood from the dawn of the First Age, echoed now by the new blood and power of Remiel.

Slowly, they waited for Matter's response. Guardians before the new Master of the Throne.

As they walked to the throne room , he answered his superior's question .

"You are here to ... sort things out . I presume ."

"I see your delusions have not clouded your insight." Palpatine smiled. "But your judgement...." The thought trailed for a moment.

"Darth Matter, your sector has fallen under consistent attack, your efforts have continued to deplete the strength of the armed forces under your charge. And your obedience towards my commands.... is non existent. The penalty of refusing your emperors commands in your very own sector is death. Tell me, why should you be demonstrated mercy? You have slighted Remiel De Drakan, ally and Warlord of the Empire under my express wish. His position is my will. You are an instrument of my will, and so far, you have been found faltering. Your refusal of the Warmasters commands and forgiveness has not gone ignored. We are here, at this moment, to decide if you are capable of the honour of Moff."

"Of course I assure you that Imperial regulations are upheld here . We had only slighted Remiel because of his ... remarks which were inflamatory ."

Cabot chuckled softly, unable to contain it as laughter split his scarred, tumutuous features. He grinned, a feral sneer dripping with power and disdain, alive with his superiority.

"My Emperor, my brother, saw fit to chastise only on those points obvious to him. When ones commander speaks his mind, one listens, one does not run off his mouth and physically assault him. Had any troop under my command tried such a thing, they would lie dead before me, food for Khorne!" He seemed as though he were about to step forward, but remained stationary.

"If the Emperor had not agreed with Remiel, would he have come here to chastise you for your actions? I ask you now...Will you beg forgiveness for insulting both the Empire and the Imperium? Or may I indulge my intent?"

"Of course we shall sincerely apologize for our actions and compensate the victims in all possible manners but a Sith shall not loose his dignity by begging for forgiveness . This I must insist upon .

A sith would rather fight to the death rather than loose his honor and dignity . I am sure both of you know that by now ."

"I could care less for your Sith ways, they reek of trickery in the eyes of Khorne! I am Warmaster of the Imperium because I do not yield to scriveners and bureaucrats nor abide by treacherous magicks and powers...You live on lies and deceit with no conception of marshall pride and honor. We have seen Palpatine fight with honor, leading from the front and through his warriors, as any servant of the Blood ought.

Where are the conquests wrought in your name? Where is the victory?" He snarled, before restraining his mighty fury, turning to Palpatine. "The Emperor has issued me strict instruction that should this...Sith fail to repay the Imperium for its insult, then the Imperium as a whole shall..." He paused, as though savouring the words "Withdraw our support from all matters of Empire. Not only shall Chronosian forces no longer aid in military affairs, nor lend any might towards your armies, but the Warp Gate shall be destroyed." Cabot smirked, turning back to regard Matter from his position of vantage from upon the Dais, his Terminator guards close to him, his sorceror whispering in tortured madness, the Chaplain remaining inert, impartial, content merely to watch through the bloodied Skull Mask.

"What then, Darth Matter, do you have to offer the Imperium for the troubles you have caused it?"

"Of course the Empire on the whole values the Chronosian support and in return for the troubles caused to the Imperium , we will offer full monetary compensation to any ... physical and emotional injuries sustained by Remmiel . We will also issue a full statement of apology in which we would apologize for our misconduct .

Otherwise than stated , we do not have anything else in mind , unless you have a more ... interesting offer ? We do wish for continued and improved relations between the Empire and the Imperium ."

"If you held the interests of the Empire at heart you would not mewl and squeal at the glory offered to the Emperor, that he who reigns in Chronosia should be as Warmaster in Coruscant is a glorious undertaking, and you sully all that could come of it...We could offer you enlightenment and understanding beyond the scope of your fleshy form and meagre mind, we could forge your armies anew into steel where once they were but clay. We could array the might of the Imperium before you and you would be in awe of our scope and power."

He chuckled.

"We have waged bloody war across the cosmos since before you could crawl from the soup of your making, we can trace the glory of our lineage to Terra itself. We have forged worlds into compliance beneath the eyes of the Gods and deal with a thousand species who were easily the equal of what we find here.

I would hear apology and fealty from your lips, your sworn oath to serve the Warmaster and through him serve the Emperor, to place your armies at the beck and call of the Imperium in the name of the Empire you claim to be a part of. This is your penance. This is your judgement."

Palpatine savoured the humility of his servant. The lowering on one knee, the bowing of a head in submission to his power. "Darth Matter. You have repented for your crime, but justice must have her way. As a result of your failure as a leader, it is inevitable that your people must suffer. You are to execute five thousand civilians at random, publicly upon the holonetwork.

You yourself shall slay the first new born child as an example to all. The price of failure in the Empire."

"Of course my lord ."

He turned to face Stormtrooper Commander 0102 , also incharge of Palace Security .

"Bring up 5000 random civillians up now ."

"Immediately , most esteemed one ."

5 minutes later the crowd of 5000 civillians were dragged to the Public Square . It was cordoned off by Imperial Security and only a select few were able to view what was about to unfold .

Following his orderes , Darth Matter used a Sith Blade instead of his lightsaber to slay the firstborn .

After that he turned his back away as he gave the order . The sky lit up a eerie green as laser fire errupted ...

"Such treachery is deserving only as an offering to the Master of Change, but it pleases that the wretch bloodies his hand in the fount of his own" Cabot chuckled as he spoke to Palpatine, watching the glorious slaughter unfold.

"We ought to take a stronger hand in their affairs, those Golans have sat too long in idle hands, and I'm sure you're aware what they say about those sorts" A wry chuckle, his choler bubbling below the surface of his demeanor. "We deserve the respect that only fear can cow into his people"
