"You have proof of this, I gather?" President William MacKensie turned from the window to look at the Ackistanian ambassador.
"I am afraid so. Reconnaisance satellites do show Clandonian and Great Nari warships using that base you granted the Narites for refuelling. They are part of the force we believe is being arrayed against us." The ambassador paused. "Mr. President, the Narites have made a mockery of your peace offering. If you were to side with us in this conflict, we can--"
MacKensie raised a hand to stop him. "I am aware of the implications of the Narites' actions, Mr. Ambassador. I have no desire to jeopardize our good relations, but neither am I willing to take this country into a full-scale war. However, this is not something that can go unanswered.
"You can tell your government that we will deal with the base on the Quadrivalve Archipelago."
The ambassador bowed and left the office. Samantha, MacKensie's aide, checked her handheld. "I believe General Wellington and Admiral Carter are waiting to see you, sir."
"Thank you, Samantha. I'll see them now." General Eric Wellington and Admiral Yvonne Carter, the commanding officers of the Trivalvian military, entered the office.
MacKensie regarded them both. "I trust you are aware of the situation? Can we confirm the Ackistanian accusation?"
Wellington nodded. "Radio traffic on the northernmost island has risen dramatically, and radar stations at our own naval base in the Archipelago have confirmed ships of various sizes using that refuelling base in the past few days. Both Narite and Clandonian IDs were detected."
"Dammit." MacKensie sat down at his desk, glaring at the globe to his right. "We provided humanitarian aid for the Clandonians, gave the Narites that base... and this is the thanks we get?" He thought for a moment.
"Admiral, based on what we know about the Narite base, how quickly could we shut it down?"
Yvonne Carter frowned in concentration. "Knowledge of what defenses they've set up is sketchy, and with both Clandonian and Narite warships docking at the base... Perhaps the safest route is an airstrike, take the base out in one blow."
Wellington added, "We could have fighters in the air in an hour, sir."
"I'll keep that in mind as a plan 'B'. What about sending ground troops in?"
"That could be costly, if we move while they have ships and troops of their own. Our best advantage is that the island itself is only 9 kilometers across. We won't be able to use armour effectively but neither will they."
Carter said, "The biggest threat to a ground force would be the Narite's ships... those would need to be neutralized or we'd have to time it when they have the fewest amount of ships at or near the base."
MacKensie nodded. "I see. Admiral, I understand the first Asher class frigates have been integrated into our fleet?"
"They are; four have completed all tests and are combat ready. Two more are in shakedown, and we have another two that will be finished in the next three to four weeks. Also, construction of the first Guardian class cruiser is proceeding nicely - it should be ready for shakedown in about a month."
"All right then," MacKensie said, his decision made. "Put the Atlantic fleet and our airbases on alert; and have the shipyards accelerate construction of those frigates and cruiser. I'm going to meet with the Narite ambassador and see if we can get them to pull out peacefully; we'll reconvene in one hour. Thank you both."
Special Communique to the Ambassador for Great Nari
It has come to our attention that your government is aiding Clandonia Prime in its invasion of Ackistan. It has also come to our attention that your government is using the refuelling base in the Quadrivalve Archipelago to supply ships from both Great Nari and Clandonia Prime.
The Trivalvian government wishes to remind the Narite Government that this is a violation of Article 3(b) of the Nellisland Treaty, and that the Narite Government is in danger of losing the refuelling base. We ask that for the duration of the conflict between your government and Ackistan, that the refuelling base suspend all operations and all personnel return to Narite lands. We would appreciate a response to this request within the hour.
OOC: this will be a closed and limited RP between Great Nari and myself. It is linked to Clandonia's "Operation Reeducation" RP only remotely.
