The Glorious Empire of Naasha

This factbook is currently incorrect, there are political revolutions ongoing in the country and I will be migrating to NSwiki once all is concluded. For now everything but the map should not be considered accurate.

Country Name: The Glorious Empire of Naasha
Often shortened to Naasha.

Population: Over 9 million.

UN Category: Police state, with few political freedoms or civil rights.

Economy: Powerful and high tech manufacturing industry, which exports all over the world, many mining operations have left the eastern mountains of the country as little more than pits of ash and slag.

Citizens pay an income tax of only 6%, but the government supplements this in many other ways, such as huge fines for crimes, corporations pay few taxes, but make large donations to the ruling party for favorable treatment.

The currency is the Naashan Standard Unit.

Geography: The Naashan Empire is located in a large bowl, with mountains to the north, east and south, and the sea to the west.

The northern mountain ranges are impenetrable, towering and snow-capped all year, the southern slopes are gentler, and have three wide passes into neighboring Surdun, known as ‘the Devils Jaws’ by superstitious Surdunni tribes. The eastern mountains, are highly toxic, covered in ash and molten slag, many mineral extracting operations are ongoing there.

The capital of Naasha is the city of Sandya, located on the central plains of the empire. The capital holds a million of the nation’s populace, it is a sprawling metropolis of dark buildings and moonlit gardens, the Imperial Chambers used to lie in glorious parklands in the centre of the city, however they have been reduced to mere piles of rubble.

Other notable cities are Samkur, the main port city of the empire, located on the western coast, and Naash, a modern, pre-designed city that also doubles as a military garrison on the Surdun border. Rosaa is a heavily industrialized city in the east of the Empire, hidden mostly under a cloud of smog.
The 'green triangle' of agricultural cities, made up of Vogrost, Forstvir and Morgur is situated in the fertile and sunny south-west of the Empire.

Of the nation of Surdun, Naasha currently controls six of the seven provinces:
• Samwe – Borders Naasha, it’s inhabitants are more ‘civilized’ by Naashan standards, it is directly in the north of the country.
• Gunwe – Is a coastal province in the north of Surdun, bordering Samwe and Yaskr, its cities are all located on the western sea.
• Teremr – Is in the north east, it is mountainous and mostly uninhabited.
• Ungul – Is located in the centre of the nation, it is the industrial and political heartland of the country, and contains the capital of Fyrr.
• Yaskan – Consists of rain drenched hills and countryside, it is located in the south of the nation, bordering Yaskr, Ungul and Yaskip.
• Yaskip – is in the south east, it is mainly dry steppes, with windswept plains in the west.

The final province, Yaskr, is in the south west of the country, bordering the sea, it consists mostly of dry hills and deserts, with scattered tribal villages. The huge Te-Yaskr ridge seperates the region from the rest of the nation, making a great defensive line for SPLA rebels..

Government:
Naasha is ruled by the Jade Empress, who appoints a council to run the country as she sees fit, dissidents against the Empress, or the council are dealt with swiftly and brutally.

The Jade Empress
The Prime: Oversees the council, has ultimate authority, other than over the Empress herself.
Minister for Defence: Is responsible for the armed forces.
Minister for Economy: Is responsible for Naasha’s considerable economic power.
Minister for the Empire: Is responsible for other needs of the Empire, such as education, health and transport.

Military:
10,000 trained soldiers:
1st, 2nd and 3rd Infantry Regiments.
50,000 conscripts – military service is compulsory in Naashan, hence, disproportionately large numbers of conscripts can be raised quickly and are spread between battalions and Local Defense Units.
Empress Guard elite/special forces, 2 divisions totalling about 500 combat troops.
5 Armoured divisions.
8 Mechanized Divisions.
5 Advanced AA Cruisers.
2 Anti-ship and Sea to ground Battle cruisers.
2 Hammerhead patrol submarines.
6 Multi-role fighter squadrons - J-10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J-10)'s
2 Long-range bomber squadrons.
6 Interceptor squadrons - MIG 31 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mig_31)'s
12 Attack/Support helicopter squadrons - NA-3 Attack helicopters, NA-4 Tactical helicopters (including medivac variants).

Rosaa a typical Naashan City

Lockdown hadn't been initiated here yet, obviously both the government and the invaders - whoever they were had overlooked this place. Or maybe the cloud of black smoke, thick enough to feel almost solid, that hung over the place had masked it from hostile eyes.

The citizens neither knew, nor cared, for them, life was simple, if hard. The majority lived in apartment buildings, towering monstrosities of concrete and iron, with wide front entrances, gilded in black, looking more like the maws of some great beast than a welcoming home.

The Naashan Raven, posted on the wall in every room, by law, watched over them. The beady eyes of the soot-black bird promising a lifetime of torture and terror, should they even speak out against the Empire.

That same Raven leered down from the walls of the Imperial Palace, which, while not of the same size or grandeur of the Imperial Chambers in Sandya, still dwarfed the surrounding buildings, a lasting testament to the greatness of The Empress. Her soldiers patrolled the streets, average, normal citizens, who were taken to the training camps and came back as these; dark uniformed, blank faced stormtroopers, willing to die at Her will.

No rain falls in Rosaa, just a constant flow of ash from the mines to the east, no rain falls to clean the dirty streets, streets clogged with cars, an odd luxury it seemed, but every citizen owned one, almost identical ones, produced here, under the smoking chimneys and the crash of the machinery.

Noone cries out in Rosaa, despite the pain and misery, for to speak out of place, to be seperate from the crowd, was to die.
