Timeline
2007: Canada begins withdrawal coalition troops from Iraq along with American soldiers. Soldiers are also withdrawn from Afghanastan.
Late 2008: After terrorist leader Osama bin Laden is captured, valuable intelligence indicating a possible attack on Canadian capitol, Ottawa, is delivered to Canadian intelligence services.
Early 2009: A dramatic increase in police and intelligence funding occurs due to the realization that an attack in Canada is a very real possibility.
2010: After a large number of suicide bombings in Israel, Canadian government begins an intense crackdown on suspected terrorists and detains people who are even suspicioned to be terrorists.
Early 2011: French-Canadian radicals in Quebec begin lobbying for the independance of the nation. Several riots occur in Quebec City due to demonstrations becoming violent.
Late 2011: Canadian parliament passes several measures which begin to grant individual provinces more and more power.
2012: Protests become more violent as police forces start to be forced out of Quebecian cities. Citizens begin to purchase weapons in preperation of a possible uprising. A state of emergency is declared by Canadian government and Canadian military forces are brought into Quebec to keep the peace. Several minor street battles occur as more and more soldiers are shipped in.
Early 2013: NATO is disbanded.
July 14, 2013: In memory of the beginning of the French revolution and Bastille Day, the province of Quebec declares itself independant of Canada, and becomes the Republic of Quebec. A group of Quebecian citizens form a militia and take over a Canadian military base, which has several armored vehicles and an armory of weapons, which form the basis of the 1st Quebecian Army. These men and women travel across Quebec during the rest of the year, driving out Canadian soldiers. By the end of the year, all Canadian soldiers and loyalists have been driven out or killed, and Quebec is officially sovereign. The current government is a republic, under President Jacque Constans.
2014: After Canada signed the Pacific Rims treaty, RoP decided to halt further offenses against Canadian soldiers in Quebec and allowed them to evacuate freely in order to prevent a war with the United States and 3 other nations. Quebec applies for UN and is accepted.
2015-2019: The nation builds up its economy and government as things settle down from the seperation.
2020: The UN is disbanded. Noting that it is now no longer under any treaties or restrictions from the UN, it begins to explore several previously closed areas in research.
2020-2034: Quebec stays under the radar. Only slightly dabbling in several fields of technology, it draws no notice to itself as conflict in Asia and South America continues to grow.
2035: Quebec, noticing its aging military arsenal, begins a program to research and develop a new standard infantry weapon, a new MBT, and begin planning of a navy.
2035-2050: The Fifteen Years of Silence. Quebec is relatively unaffected by this time and approaches completion of a new standard infantry weapon.
2051: Quebecian researches complete and test successfully the new standard infantry weapon, the XF-51. It is a 6.5*48mm battle rifle, using a new caseless system that was developed specifically for the new weapon. Weighing in at approximately 4.5 pounds unloaded, it is fairly light and the infantrymen take to it quickly. It is of the bullpup configuration and each clip can contain 21 rounds. It has single fire, 3 round burst, and fully automatic capabilities. It is accurate out to about 500 yards, thanks to the 2x scope that is mounted on the upper sight rails on all rifles issued. The weapon can be manufactured in an SMG configuration (MP-51), marksman configuration (TF-51), squad automatic weapon config (M-51), or standard battle rifle (F-51). A pistol using a similar caliber but shorter round (6.5*19mm) was also developed, known as the P-49, as it was completed in 2049. It is expected to have the entire infantry force equipped with these weapons by 2060. Until then, they will continue to use the M-16's and M-4's that were manufactured up until that year.
2051-2056: As war rages on in South America, Quebec sees this as an opportunity to develop more black projects.
2057: A prototype for Quebec's MBT position is created and fails. This marks a major turning point in the project, as the technology they had been using was similar to that of the outdated M-1 Abrams tank. About this time, the objective changes from that of developing a new main battle tank to that of creating a force of mechs. Starting from scratch, researchers begin to look into quadrapedal vehicles.
2058-2070: Quebec continues. Further progress is made into quadrapedal mechs, but there is yet to even have a small scale model of one for testing purposes. Still navyless, they purchase Russian equipment and field a small navy with 2 destroyers, 6 frigates, 12 gunboats and 2 submarines. Although there is no airforce either, they had developed an excellent anti-air and detection system that surrounds most cities. Using a sensor based technology that scans all wavelengths and combines it with visual information, it is capable of detecting most aircraft before they reach reach maximum strike range.
2077: A working scale model of a quadruped mech has finally been developed and tested. Officially named the Q-1, it is nicknamed Le Défenseur de Quadrupède, or the Quadruped Defender.
2078: After witnessing the power of the orbital bombers by PAC against the RFSFR, some funding is diverted into research into an effective countermeasure against such an attack, along with increased production and distribution to civilians of NBC suits in the case of a bio-chemical attack.
2080: The Ragnarok Year. Partly due to the fact that immigration and travel outside and into the country was cut off, and partly due to the NBC suits that everyone donned, Quebec was mostly unaffected by the deadly diseases that had been going around.
2081: The first full-size quadrupedal mech is constructed. The first test is more or less of a failure due to a tracking problem in the legs. They were mis tracked and collided, causing the mech to trip and crash. Researchers look into possible causes.
Early 2082: The first successful testing of a quadrupedal mech. Tracking problems had finally been solved, and it performed up to full movement standards under a full load that would be carried had it been a weapons platform.
2098: First official Q-1 introduced into the Quebec Army. It is equipped with a 120mm cannon similar to that of the M-1 Abrams tank and 3 M-76 .50caliber machine guns. It is remote controlled from a bunker in Quebec City. It has a running speed of about 50 mph on flat, level ground. More realistically however, it can run up to 25 mph on uneven ground. It weighs 50 tons and is transportable by under aircraft chains on most cargo helicopters and is easily transportable in a cargo plane, due to its ability to fold itself into a more transportable shape. There is expected to be 30 of these by 2107 along with trained operators.
2100: Birth of the 22nd Century. As citizens and government officials alike observe the advancement into space, plans are starting to be set into motion to start a space program.
