The Long Patrol… (FT Intro Open)

The Ishtel System….....

The I.M.D. Xeno's Bane had been outside of Imperial Space for three months. The crew had not seen any action in the whole time they had been out here. They were starting to get rather bored with all the empty space….

Engineering Section of the Destroyer......

"Tell me again, why in all the nine-hells are we out here?" Apprentice Techno Mage Nakris Makos had asked the question to his superior Techno Mage Brakin Vrak. The Techno Mage was busy using his arcane powers to keep the engines running. The machines continued to activate while the Techno Mage used his magic to keep the computers and engines running. He looked over at his apprentice after a brief calculation was solved thus enabling the machine to work more efficiently. His body was mostly electronic and he looked more like a cyborg instead of a living breathing human. He replied in his metallic voice, "It is the will of the Star Empress to patrol outside of Imperial Space and hunt down the vile Xenos and to expand our Imperial dominion over the stars!"

The computers and robotics continued to run smoothly, so the Techno Mage began to make a pray to the Star God of Machines. The prayer was brief and to the point praising the star god for his great kindness to the inhabitants of one of his children the Destroyer Xenos Bane.

The Bridge…..

The Imperial Star Commander Castellin Alkasin sat in his throne like command chair. He looked around and wondered what could be out here other than Xenos and other human colonies that had to be reclaimed in the name of the United Star Empire. The Astro-Mage continued to scan the area of the Ishtel system ever since they left the Star warp. It was not very impressive there were no signs of life Xenos or human. There was nothing to gain and thus the Astro-Mage informed the Imperial Star Commander that there was nothing here to assimilate or exterminate.

The Imperial Star Commander was deeply troubled by this latest news. It seemed their hunt or patrol had thus far proved to be fruitless they were already a thousand light years away from Imperial Space and that meant that the crew and him would have gone all this way for nothing if they did not run into something soon.

The Imperial Star Commander after a few seconds of thought said in a most authoritarian voice, "This trip has proven to be a most disappointing one. I think we should make one more jump into Star Warp before we give up." He pushes a communication button and said out loud, "Star Warp Priests initiate Star Warp to the following coordinates. We have once again failed to hunt down the hated Xenos or bring more of our beloved brethren into the fold. I hereby command you to preform one last jump before returning home to Imperial Space."

***********************************************************************

The Imperial Military Destroyer powered up its engines and prepared to open a rift into Star Warp Space. It was a dangerous place to enter and the Shields had to be raised to protect the crew from the denizens that resided into that most hellish place. The process took ten minutes and then the Destroyer entered the Warp heading towards it's next target looking and searching for enemies to destroy and human brethren to join the United Star Empire…

Stars lit up the skies in the galaxy. An Imperial Bird of Prey dropped out of hyperspace on patrol. Imperial Captain Aughinia Ghacia sat in his chair on the bridge of the ships. He and his crew of 25 were on patrol by order of Grand Moff Avondale. There mission was to seek out any life beyond there system.

"Captain, we have dropped out of Hyperspace and are beginning the scan of the area."

"Very good, Helm holds the ship here and allows the scan to be completed."

"Aye, Sir."

Captain Ghacia waited in his command seat for the scan to be completed. Several beeps from the ships computer caught his attention.

"Captain we are receiving a transmission from Grand Moff Avondale Ship."

"Put it through."

The Captain bent down on one knee in front of the holo projector. An Image of the Grand Moff Appeared on the projector.

"Report captain."

"Sir, we have not picked up any life forms as of yet. But we are continuing our search of the area."

Several beeps began to ring.

"Sir, I'm picking up a reading on our scan. There is an unknown ship heading this way sir."

The captain turned back to the holoprojector.

"Milord, as you have heard we have picked up a reading of another ship. I will move in to make contact with them."

"Very well, you are dismissed."

"Yes, Milord."

The Captain returned to his chair and sat back.

"Helm set a course to intercept."

"Aye Sir."

The Bird of Prey began to move to intercept the unknown ship.

Recon Blub 009

Suddenly, a squat, fat-looking little craft appeared out of a FTL mode. It was painted dark green, somewhat bulbous and as it slowed down, the pilot applied the breaking thrusters a bit too hard, and it jerked to a halt. The craft wobbled slightly, then straightened out a bit, drifting slowly forward at an off-angle.

Garbbled transmissions went out, then the craft went into detection mode, recieving signals and sniffing about for the sources of said signals.

"Systematic activity, commander."
"Affirmative. Can you VID it?"
"Nearby, across the spacial debris."
"Any thoughts on origin?"
"Could be Noiglach, after abandoning their home system."
"Stay wary, then."

The Nova-class frigate Prowler led its two corvettes in the recon fleet across some of the space debris, slowly, cautiously.

"Lieutenant, move us to a sensor detection mask."
"Copy. Mask up."

The frigate and corvettes, though not entirely cloaking, sent a ripple of energy across their hulks, the sensor wands that portruded from the hulls now recieving and holding incoming sensor detections, to mask the identity of the three ships from sensor waves. They were, however, still visible.

"Report from the gravitic sensors?"
"Four gravitational bodies detected of ship-like size. No VID on any of them."
"Affirmative. Shields and weapons up, let's move in a bit."

The three-ship group moved forward, out into the open to see what was up.

It was coasting with no expediture of drive - indeed, close readings showed that the reactor was on warm stand-by and life support tuned to a low setting. All-in-all, signs pointed to a craft in distress.

Jent growled, "Doesn't sound very friendly to me at all, Ensign. Leftenant! Sound general quarters. Increase power to the sensors. I want them blinded by the amount of energy we're putting in their direction."

"Aye, aye sir."

Klaxons began to sound all over the ship as the XO's vioce sounded over the comm, "General Quarters, General Quarters! All hands man your battle stations!"

The ships shields began to power up as the crew raced for their stations. The particle and rail gun turrets began to recieve power.

Aboard The Grudge, Captain B’Louh was puzzled by the sudden message that they had received out of nowhere.

“Tactical, are we employing any Counter-Measures?”

“Negative Sir. We have only just arrived and just began scanning the area.”

“Are we sending out any emissions that might be considered Counter-Measures?”

“Negative Sir. We are clean.”

”Comm, open a channel to the ship that hailed us.”

“Yes Sir, whenever you are ready.”

Attention foreign vessel.

This is the Imperial Frigate, The Grudge. We have no idea what you are talking about. Accusing us of employing such cowardly tactics is an insult and we feel you should re-examine your sensors. I expect you will discover you have made a mistake and will take such actions to rectify the situation.

Thank you.

When the crew checks the sensors, they will notice The Grudge registers as having the mass of a small star and its energy readings are almost off the scale.

Grudge, we apologize. However, we have reason to believe that there are other vessels in system using ECM. That is not considered a friendly act, at least where we come from.

The three stealthed Amazonian ships kept lurking about, recieving both the message from the Destructor and the Birds of Prey, though making no reference to either. The Captain of the Prowler, Captain Michael Haynes, made no response, merely weeding out which targets seemed more or less hostile, and would be easier to take down should a fight be launched. The Nova-class Frigate was a powerful frontline cruiser, armed with up-to-date weaponry and a full compliment of gunships and starfighters, and the two corvettes were adept at engagement of light cruisers, as were in the vicinity. If need be, the Prowler could call in the 7-ship scout fleet near by, led by the Pinnacle-class cruiser Zenith, but the in-system recon fleet the Prowler led was likely more than enough, with three battle-tested and battle-ready cruisers. Haynes still wasn't confident enough in the cruisers alone.

"Lieutenant," called Haynes on the bridge, "signal the hanger and the other two corvettes. Ready gunships and fighters in case this little meeting breaks ugly on us. Power weapons to condition 2, shields to 1. Continue sweeping with the gravitic sensors."
"Copy, captain."

In the Prowler's hanger bay, two squads of fighters were prepped for any-time go, while a four-ship gunship squad lay behind the fighters in case they were also needed.

“Sir, I have detected hyperspatial signatures. It appears other stealth craft have appeared in the area.”

“I see, send out a Sensor Pulse. Get their attention and locations. Follow it up with my simple message.”

“Yes Sir”

A few moments later, a very powerful sensor pulse was emitted from the Imperial vessel. The strength of the pulse would at the very least cause the others in the area to take notice. The high energy might even overload a few systems but it would do nothing harmful unless the ship was of substandard construction.

Attention all vessels

I am fairly certain that will get your attention and as you receive this message, the Sensor Pulse data would be revieling your positions to our systems.

The three-group formation decloaked abruptly, a good distance still from the other ships but coming closer now.

Acknowledgement of your border recognized. However, powering down our weapons systems is a completely facetious demand. As Dominion ships, we shall not let ourselves open to the possible attacks of potentially hostile races or ships. And powering down our countermeasures is even more out of the question. You are asking us to lay down our first line of defense, along with point-defense cannons as weaponry, a demand we can not comply to.

Attention Dol Nar vessel:

We must also agree. I will recognize your border, but unfortunately for you, The Grudge is about 150 million kilometers on the other side of it. According to Galactic Records, I am sitting in International Space.

That means your authority does not extend across said border which is defined down to the meter as per international regulations. You cannot order this ship to do anything and you cannot take any action against us unless we were inside your borders. Doing any such activity is not only considered impolite, but can also get you hurt.

The captain was finished composing his message and sent it off toward the Grand Duchy’s borders a few light minutes away. He knew he was close to their border and the way ships were popping up like a plague he didn’t blame them for getting jumpy. But he was not about to allow them to dictate protocol on an Imperial vessel.

Now to the other four ships that appeared to be making a move on The Grudge.

Attention Dweladelfia prime vessels:

It is polite to have a single vessel approach another in a First Contact situation, unless you are taking hostile actions against this ship. You are already within our Medium Range and further approachment en-mass will be considered a threat and appropriate actions will be taken. This is your final warning.

OOC:

It is noted the 18 torpedo tubes have not yet been opened on The Grudge. And there are no visable weapon ports. The frigate has two Ion Cannon mounts but other than those and the torpedo hatches, you are unsure of the weapons the ship has.

Meanwhile, I want target locks on all four hostile vessels. Open launch tubes and have them prepped. Do not go weapons hot. They will make the first move and we will finish it. Defense, full field strength on all shields. I want the Bio-reflective armor layers fully energized. Heisenberg Shields at full, Dimensional Shields at full, and make sure the Adaptive Armor is ready.”

“Yes Sir. Offensive is ready and awaiting your order to go Hot. Defensive is operating at full capacity. Sensors is operating at peak efficiency and flooding the space between us with erroneous sensor readings.”

“Prepare the SGE for operation. I pray we won’t need that but the survival of The Grudge takes precedence over their ships. If it comes to push and shove, prep the ship for Deconstruction. The Swarm will take them out but I would rather keep it conventional.”

“Yes Sir, prepping the systems now.”

“Also, establish a Space Minus Transmission and relay all data in the real-time link to Command. They will want to know what happens here. Send all data that has already occurred so they can prove the actions we take are completely defensive.”

“Connection established Sir.”

Outside the ship, the eighteen torpedo tubes slid open silently in the void. The presence of multiple shields sprung into existence as layers of barely seen energy bubbles.

Captain B’Louh cut the signal and issued commands.

“Tactical, flood their sensors with our sensors. I want them to only be able to pick up our scans. Run the gain up so high it creates noise in their systems.
