The Saviour of Men: The Cyber Union Declares Total War on Mankind (FT Open)

The sun shone throught the tinted windows of the ship. It was the first natrual ight that Captain James Parker had seen in twleve months during their mission into the deep darkness of space. His planet had been committed to space travel for most of the past 300 years; ever since they'd established first contact with another species.

Parker was the golden boy of space travel, a dashing hero who had fought off aliens, forged alliances and fathered numerous hybrid offspring with a series of alien lovers. he had been sent to study this new system and the power sources that had been detected here.

The mission had come to nothing, and the power sources had remained hidden, deep underground on a planet that the crew had named 'Gregor VII' after Parkers seventh child. Of course, the crew would return within a year and mine into the rock, discovering the sources and using them to power the newly forming empire.

But they had not found all.........

A sleek black ship cruised after them, concealed by the darkness. Many crew had seen it out of the corner of their eye, though the ship had vanished just as quickly and the crew had put it down to lack of sleep.
Parker and most of the crew were sleeping when it happened, leaving the AI to pilot the ship. A red beam caught the ship in the rear before hitting the engines. With the floor shaking, Parker awoke from his slumber.

Ten minutes later all of the important officers stood in the bridge as the red beams rained down upon their ship. 'What the hell is going on?' asked Parker. 'This ship is clearly marked as a neutral scout ship. Why the hell are they shooting us?'
He gained to answers from his crew. He had expected none, all of the men and women were equally bemused as he. Scowling, he turned to the large screen in front of him. 'Computer, take evasive action against this attacking ship. We can't shoot them down but we can avoid them. We're come back later and blow these bastards from the sky.'

The crew held on as the computer took the ship to its full speed, knifing between the asteroids with an accuracy a human could never match. All seemed well...... until Parker realized that they were turning.
'What the hell is going on!' he demanded. 'Computer, I ordered a course away from the attackers.' When the computer did not respond, Parker repeated himself again, and then twice more. Without a response, he turned to his pilot.
'Take control.' he ordered. 'The computer has gone haywire.'
The pilot, a small man of thirty three, nodded silently before hitting the switch to disengage the auto pilot. He then sat and placed his hands upon the controls as he always did.

But he was not silent now. The pilot screamed as electricity engulfed his body from the controls. Seconds later he dropped back, dead.
The crew now stared at one another in absolute dread. With the pilot dead and the auto pilot broken, they were now stuck, an explorers worst nightmare. And then, there was the ship above, the one that had fired on them. Where was it now?

And so the crew sat and waited for an hour while Parker attempted to discover a way out of the mess. All electricity was out, in fact the only functions that had stayed online were the gravity and oxygen. It was in this darkness that the humans first heard the voices.

They came from the floor above; rasping, pained voices spoken in a perfect monotone, yet embodying a fear and an anger that the crew now felt. And then the ringing sound of metal slamming against metal, all in perfect unison.
Suddenly, the lights came back on. Moments after that, the air was pierced by the screams above. The crew sat there, not daring to move, clutching the small plasma pistols that had been supplied to them. The heavier wepaons were upstairs, with whatever else was up there. Nobody dared go for them.

After about half an hour, the screaming stopped, as did the sounds of saws and metal against metal. The ship had gone silent. And then, the lift that connected the bridge with the armoury above came to life, making its way upwards.

It felt like an eternity. It felt longer. But soon enough, the elevator was grinding back toward the bridge, carrying whatever had called it. The crew all trained their guns onto the doors. The lift was only big enough for one, it could be killed if they concentrated their fire. The thud, and then the opening of the doors was followed by a volley from the pistols. A figure fell foward from elevator, dead. It was.......
'Gregor!!!!' Parker gasped with disgust and surprise. In front of the captain, his son lay dead, shot by him and his crew members.

Behind them, the doors exploded. A barrage of laser fire fell upon the people in the room, killing three of the crew and injuring eight. The figures that outlined in the smoke were at least six feet tall. And then in they stepped.

There were eight of them, Cyverons that is. Their form was massive and imposing. They were decked out in a full suit of steel armour, dirty and stained and a large metal helmet and mask to match. The mask had an expression carved onto it, each with the exact same features. Small eyes, no nose, and a twisted smile.

The small team marched into the room, with one Cyveron marching right up to Parker. 'We will use your transmission device to give a message to mankind.' it informed him.
Parker glared. 'You invaded my ship to send a message!' he exclaimed. 'You killed my people, my SON, to deliver a message.'
'Yes' the Cyveron answered simply. He then turned to the giant screen ahead of him. 'Boost power to 300%' it ordered.

People of mankind. We are the Cyverons and we come to save you. We know that you suffer, as all living things suffer. But this is not so for us. We are without fear, without pain, without age or death, without the destructive chemicals known as emotions or the debilitating ravages of age. We can save you from yourselves and liberate you from your imperfect human form. From this day foward, we declare that all human territory now belongs to the Cyber Empire and that all people within are to be saved. All ships will be captured and all humans that fall into our hands will be saved. Anybody that resists will be deemed unfit and removed. A new age now dawns, the age of the Cyverons. The age of peace. The age of your liberation.

When the message ended, the Cyveron turned to Parker. 'You feel pain at the death of you offspring.' it stated. 'We can end that pain.'
Parker glared at it. 'What the hell do you mean by that?' he snapped.
Instead of answering, the Cyveron simply extended its arm. From the wrist area came a small blade. In one swift movement, the Cyveron plunged the blade into his neck. Parker screamed as liquid flowed from the blade into his jugular. He turned to see that the same thing was happening to other members of his crew. 'What...' he began to say.

The necron cruiser Erisavenus cruised through the darkness at a stately velocity. It wasn't human, of course, nor were its 'creators' though some of those citizens were enhanced humans. Already cybernetic, albeit not to the same degree. Its own boarding parties and ground forces were curiously similar to the Cyverons, or at least, they had been, once. It listened to the message, and then contemplated it for slow mircro-second after micro-second.

It decided that it didn't particularly approve of this agenda.

Subject: Declaration of hostile intentions against humanity.

Hostile action for its own sake is illogical. Convincing humans to your cause will prove more productive. Have you ever lost assets in warfare? I suspect you have. Therefore, you can see why this is not necessarily the best way to gain recruits. If you truly have something noteworthy to offer, you would be able to convince humans to join you evangelically. This will drastically lower the chance of your defeat, loss of assets and minds in war, and the possibility of total extermination by a superior opponent.

If on the other hand, your actions are guided by emotions and irrational belief, well, I suppose I can't help you...

We are the Mechanicus cruiser Fleshreaver. In the name of the Dark Gods and the Imperium, we would know more of your culture based upon the colation of technical data and Humanity rendered in the image of the Machine.

We shall not submit, not till we have learned more of your peoples and cultures. We shall seek you out, and learn from you by force should the need arise. We have little to gain from conflict with fellow wayfarers in the land of human perfection and the emulation of the machine, but we might aid you and in doing so bend our dark knowledge to grander pursuits.

In the name of the Machine, we invoke the rituals of communication and diplomacy, that you might hear these offers of the most humble servants of the Deus Ex Mechanicus

The message in reply was short.

Humans are selfish, irrational and unwilling to listen. They clutch onto their weaknesses through death and through pain. They fight to hold onto them. We have had experience, we have tried to help them peacefully and yet they do not listen. Force is the only method with which humanity will be saved. Words and logic are meaningless to them.

Your design is similar to ours. We extend our hand in offer to aid us in our quest to save mankind.

Twisted is your concept, but twisted is good. You underestimate the ability of passions, such as the average human, weak-willed and stupid, can not use his emotions and passions for him. But those who feel the strength and power can twist those passions into a force, use those passions to feed the anger and hate that flows through all organic beings. Those without passion and anger can not learn of the power that one can discover from such insight. Though your quest to eradicate those who can not dwell on the power that comes from the mind, you will find yourself at a serious disadvantage of those who can use such abilities to their own benefit and strength. Those who can master their own, and bend it to their consent, achieve far greater power than those who can not achieve this very flow.

Savor your weakness, and build your hatred upon it, do not dwell. Such weakness can become a strength, when tuned to the pulse of the owner.

But the average human does not deserve such passion, such power, when they can not control it. They are nothing put slaves to their own thoughts and feelings, fools lodged in an endless vortex of torn emotions and sadness.

Though the mechanical also have their benefits. They do not experience tiring, do not experience loss. But those organic beings who first examine themselves do not feel such pains either, instead siphon such into an output. The machine can never feel such strength, can never achieve perfection, though designed in perfection. The one that believes it has is misguided and open to threat.

The Dark Side speeks through me, Dark Lord Marka Ragnos. Eradicate the scum who fall to their own passions through mental anarchy. Savor those who turn it to supremacy.

Suddenly the messages between the Cyveron and other nations that were sailing the stars.

"Uh, Sir it seems the MIN Clouded, a Mationbuds vessel has encountered the Cyverons..."

The Capitan of the NNS Curtain of fire was sitting in his chair starring at the sensor readings.

"What is the status of Shields and weapons..." He said softly to his ensigns in front of him.

The two typed quickly on their consoles "Shields are at 100% and weapons are on line but munitions down to 70%"

The Capitan stood up from his chair and sighed "We have faced them before, we vowed that they wouldn't succeed in there plans... Engage worm hole, prepare to enter the event horizon."

There was a loud crack that resonated threw the ship and the tear in space began to form. The caption typed a quick coded communique and sent it threw the worm hole all that there was left was the reply.

"Very well," answered General Maximus, "as soon as you hold your fire, we will engage. I would suggest though, that it would be more wise to capture the enemy ship instead of destroying it, thus enabling us to gain some knowledge of this races' capabilities."

Meanwhile the General gave the order to put all tracking systems on high alert...
Even if most tracking systems would fail, there was one which seldom did. It operated on a very simple fact; even the most advanced ship could not make itself completely invisible, and since space is full of stars in all directions, it was only a simple matter of comparing the light/spectrum that should be shining from a star with the light that was actually shining from it. Cloaked ships could only destort light to a certain degree, and thus, their silhuettes were clearly visible if one used this method of tracking...

As the MIN Clouded and the NNS Curtain of Fire held their fire, the HMS Impreza jumped into slip-stream and appeared a couple of seconds later beside the two ships, dwarfing them in size and armament.
"Engage tracking system!" ordered Maximus.
Ten seconds later... "We have a positive location of an unknown vessel, sir!"
"Good work, boys!" replied Maximus, looking at the screen. "
Can you make out the engines?" he asked.
"Yes, sir!"
The General paused. "I want you to launch 50 missiles targeted at their engine, then open up with laser-cannons, phasers, gamma-beams and plasma cannons. I want that ship dead in the water." "Yes, sir!" replied the weapons chief officer.

Pitiable. Where are your beliefs? Saving humanity? Why do you care for their pain? You are... corrupt. Ideals that had been wrought in purity seem to be reduced to naught. You seek to redeem that which is irredeemable. Nonetheless, you are amusing. Perhaps you had better seek your own survival, no? A united humanity could pose a threat to the Purpose. What you wish to do is forbidden, and, should you continue, we will not forbid with words. We will forbid with blades.

The message was sent. It was.. troublesome. Something that had been on Manifest's mind since the message was first received. But it was not the threat to humanity that bothered it. Or, to be exact, it was that threat. A united, logical humanity, a humanity, perhaps built of the frail biological forms that defined them, but with the capacity to understand the Maker-Mind.. that was a threat.

Any worlds infected so would be burnt. Indeed, all worlds would be burnt - but these first. It was a danger that could not be allowed to multiply itself. But.. Manifest suspected humanity was more than capable of taking care of itself, in terms of the weaponry it wielded. Nonetheless, the idiocy displayed by most of the nations it had seen must be perpetuated. Without it, the Purpose would be that much harder to achieve...

OOC: Yeah, I'm in the middle of a war right now (invasion and counter-invasion), so it's doubtful I'd truly pose altogether that much of a threat.. for now.
