Continuing where we left off...

I would prefer we conduct the excercises in your nation, as your soldiers would be more familiar with the terrain, and it would be more realistic. Roadblocks, any other element of suprise is good, as I want this to be realistic. I'm thinking about having 200 members of the 4th Urban Combat Division and 30 members of Special Operations Airborne Reconaisse and 40 members of the Siapian Intelligence Network Operations Detatchment Alpha. We would also like to test some of our light mech. infantry in this environment, and we will have light helicopter support.

OOC:Sorry for the delay I lost my internet connection.

Now to the business We have the perfect city. Solnosk. It was once a city with a large research center on it. Now the center is abandoned but the police force still inspects every car and there are roadblock in every road that leads to the city. The city will be evacuated but We are promising every citizen that stays a large sum of money. Individuals in a family count as one. The children and the elderly will be evacuated without exception. We won't hold You responsible for any civilian casualty but still please respect every life. I am thinking of:
About 150 Police (medium training, knows the city well)
About 200 Militia (low or no training, knows the city very well) (Militia will gather slowly)
About 50 Soldiers and 5 Officers (High training, doesn't know the city) (The soldiers are the ones that are garrisoned in a nearby fort)(Other reinforcements will arrive after a while)

We strongly advise that all citizens be evacuated. The Community will gladly pay the costs to rebuild portions of the city that are destroyed. Is this city near the ocean?

The city will be evacuated. Solnosk is not near the ocean it is landlocked but We will grant Your troops safe passage across Mllian soil. But there will be an escort legion.

OOC: I should mention that the last time I was involved in urban combat I flattened the city. Of course this time I will have no artillery support and very limited air support, so I probably won't be able to . But Siapian soldiers are notoriously brutal.

Will you gain more troops as time passes?

IC: Your terms are acceptable, however, we must ask for a significant plot of open land for staging, and that this position not be reported to those in the city, for the sake of realism. Our soldiers and their equipment are en route in several cargo planes, escorted by the 4th fighter wing. The fighters will pull off and return home before entering your airspace.

About 50 soldiers will be already in the city. Others will arrive in a few days minimum. Solnosk is built on a great plain so open land won't be a problem. The city will be able to communicate with the HQ (for requesting support and so on) but HQ won't give any information reagarding your troops. The city can be destroyed as it is very old. The evacuees will be sent to a new city that is being built .

Our troops should be arriving shortly. In the mean time, can you tell us more about the climate and terrain?

OOC: What is your timeline. Mine is GMT +2.

IC: Solnosk is located in The Great Plain of Norstin. The city is in the middle of this plain and there is only one river which passes about 5 km South of Solnosk. There are two small hills on the E and NE parts of the city but they are not elevated enough to grant some kind of protection against incoming attacks. Solnosk gets its water from underground wells that are under the city.

Climate is mostly temperate. Winters are usually windy and occasionally rainy. Snow is fairly rare, although not unheard of. The weather forecast states that the following three days will be Sunny with some showers of rain.

Also The Mllian State will lend you some portable helipads that can be used by your helicopters.

OOC: GMT-5

IC: Thank you for the use of the helicopter pads. Our forces should have arrived by now. The commanders of our forces are General Peter McKay of the Army of the Community and Specialist Paul Kesson of the Siapian Intelligence Network.

When the soldiers got off the plane, they were unarmed. As a sign of goodwill, their weapons were kept packed away in crates, in the same aircraft that the helicopters were in. The helicopters had been unloaded and were being assembled. They met with the force that would be escorting them to the battle site. A small but steady stream of APCs, HMMWVs and 5-ton trucks came from the airport.

McKay and Kesson remained behind to meet with the commanders of the legion that would be escorting them.

Police Chief Mumar was sitting behind his desk, looking at a map of Solnosk. One of his aides knocked, then entered. He was slightly out of breath.

"Sir" he said "we have completed the evacuation of the city. Few groups that were protesting disbanded without casualties. The city is now completely deserted."

This evacuation plan had came from the Police Plaza HQ three days ago. Mumar smelled something fishy. Why would HQ want to evacuate a small city like Solnosk? He turned to his aide and said:

"Double the security on the roadblocks. Then find the leader of the Solnosk Homeguard and tell him and his men to search through every house and to take every thing that can be used as a weapon, barricade or provision to the High School Gym. And start towing all the cars that you can find to the Police Garage."
"Yes, sir!" The aide bowed slightly and left.

Then he picked up a phone and dialed the Military Chief of Solnosk Army Force.
"What?" asked a gruff voice.
"We finished the evacuation. What about your men?"
"They are ready but we don't have much ammo or weapons. The heaviest weapons that we were able to find were one rocket launcher with five rockets and two heavy machine guns with about 300 bullets each. Also we have two old tanks but we don't have any shells for them. The nearest Supply Depot is 40 kms away. We have five officers that are pretty well educated but they do not know the city very well."
"OK. Report back in one hour."
"Yes"

He hung up the phone and started waiting. What more there was to do?

OOC: This is going to be an extremely busy week for me, especially later this week, so I will post as often as possible, but I may be able to post >once per day at the end of the week/beginning of next.

IC:

THe Siapian soldiers assembled their weapons. The helicopters that had been assembled at the airport arrived with the SINOD-Alpha team, and the two commanders.

"Initial intel has the local police increasing security around the city and hording weaponry and other equipment. We can't see any heavy weapons as of this time."

McKay faced the soldier. "Tell SOAR to get the UAV (unmanned airborne vehicles) airborne. Find out where they are hording supplies. Also, find out the headquarters of the local police. Find the local water supply, the local power supply, major telephone lines, etc. I want good pictures of all of them."

The small aircraft took off, and flew high over the city. Each was equipped with a single hellfire missile, but their main purpose was surveiliance.

Mumar was just about to light a cigar when Chief of Military Holman came in.
He was sweating and out of breath.
"One of my scouts told me that there are soldiers outside the city. He told me that he saw two heliopters and a few light mechs." He paused for a moment " Do you think that we are in a war?"

"Perhaps" said Mumar with an unusual calmness.

"We do not have enough people to hold Solnosk Mumar. You know this. Should we abandon the city? No,no... The research center is important is it not. What are we going to do?"

Then one of Mumars aides walked in.
"Sir" he said "We completed salvaging the city. The numbers are:

2 Hunting Rifles with scopes and 5 Cartriges for each.
50 Handguns of various calibers
50,000 Minor Blades including but not limited to Kitchen Knives
1000 Major Blades ranging from machetes to Butchers Knives.
We found about 1000 cars, 200 with full depots.
40 Fireworks
We found two tankers each half full with petrol

We also found a small compartement in one of the houses which led to a underground room. It looks like they were planning a rebellion because we found 5 tin cans full of black gunpowder. The rest of the room was a mess."

"Damn" Mumar said "That is not nearly enough. OK new orders: Holman you order your officers to begin training the militia and pull back the police forces from the roadblocks and start blocking the entrances to the city. Give the hunting rifles to your best marksman and allow them to shoot anybody who comes within 100 m of any soldier." He turned to his aide "You, start a mission to salvage the reasearch lab. Bring even the fire escape axes and tell our Chief Engineer to make something out of the gunpowder and especailly something against those choppers." They both left.

"First things first." Kesson faced his team. "We need to isolate this city. Group one, Split into teams of three. First two teams put comp 4 on all power lines, phone junctions and any other form of cable going into that city. Designated marksmen with 12.7 mike mike counter-snipers take point. Then, find all major roads and put down mines. If there are bridges, make them un-bridges. I only want one clear route to the city, and I want us to control that route. Group two, prep for choppers, fast rope decent onto buildings. Prep designated marksmen with countersnipers and 7.62's. Keep your G36A's, but your P90s should be in hand, along with your SSF blade. Prep for CQC."

The men broke into their seperate teams. Kesson faced the general. "I understand we have new MLRS systems that need testing."

"Its this new missile. Its based on the concept of the formed charge. The warhead is about five kilos of RDX, with depleted uranium shrapnel. Wrapped around that is several thin layers of copper. It detonates airburst, the copper becomes..."

"I'm schooled in ballistics, general. I need you to soften up the police station for me. Also, have the UAVs fire their hellfire missiles at the research complex. From the looks of it, we'll need all those missiles to take it out. That, and we need to remove the high school gymnasium. It seems that's where they are keeping their munitions stockpiled."

"On it."

The Siapian Commandos made their way around the edge of town, counter-snipers focused on the town at all times. If anything moved, a devastating 12.7mm anti-armor round tore a hole big enough for a human fist through it. The Alphas carefully placed the C4 so it could not be easily seen. It was programmed to remote detonate. After the team set it up, the timer counted down thirty seconds and the proximity trigger came on. If anyone came within ten feet of it, it would automatically detonate.

The four UAVs swooped low and fired their payload into the heart of the research center. If there were any strong oxidizing agents inside, it would burn for a long time. The UAVs set their course directly back to the Siapian encampment, but at such a low altitude, they would inevitably be susceptbile to small-arms fire.

Meanwhile, the MLRS fired two rockets into the sky. They flew over the town and then their engines cut off. They began a rapid, silent dive at the police station. When they were about ten feet from hitting the walls, the warheads exploded. The shockwave itself would be enough to blow in all the windows, but the hot gas coursed over the Uranium pellets and rushed against the thin layer of copper metal. It soon superheated the copper, causing it to form into little spikes and pellets, which was propelled at the police station with enough force to go through a Merkava's armor. The Uranium pellets inside, much more dense, but less penetrating flew out as well. They could make it through dry wall, and maybe kevlar, and still have have stopping power of a 7.62 round. Afterwards, another rocket with a standard RDX warhead and a small charge attatched to its fuel tank flew at the gymnasium. The engine died, and as it came closer to the ground, the fuel tank and the liquid oxygen compartments were opened up, creating a fine mist of extremely explosive fuel in an oxygen-rich cloud. The warhead fell majestically into the building, exploding, and igniting the most above it into the equivalent of the Great Chicago Fire in 0.2 seconds. The increased volume of air would cly out from the explosion and shatter all windows, spraying the insides of houses and cars with deadly shrapnel. Four helicopters were already overhead, and in under a minute, they were above the police station. A total of twenty men dropped onto the roof of the building. Four men stayed on the roof, prone, with their sniper and anti-armor rifles, while the rest blew their way through the roof and proceeded into the station. The helicopters overhead broadcasted their radios at a range of frequencies to create too much harmonic resonance for radio to be useful.

Inside the police station, the Alphas held their knoves along a filed-off side of the P90. When they came to a room they either fired several bursts of the 5.7mm AP rounds through the door or wall, or simply lobbed a flashbang into the room. When someone stood against them, the Alphas moved in close quickly, firing the AP rounds through their kevlar, and then, upon reaching an arm's-length of the enemy, in quick practiced strokes, drove their knives into exposed vulnerable regions of the body. They then took the corpse and used it as a shield. If someone had entrenched themselves, one soldier would hold up the corpse and his 10 mm sidearm, while the others crouched behind him with their P90s.

Meanwhile, mortar fire descended on the first roadblock as three HMMWVs with 12.7mm MG mounts and two APCs with 20mm cannons lumbered toward the city.
