Frozopia

The frozen mountains had seen the birth of the Frozopian empire, and in all likelyhood would one day see the death of it. Towering miles above plains to the south, these giants of the past were believed to be the protectors of the empire, sent by the gods of life to protect the humans of the region from the burning wrath of the sun god Rah and his demonic legions.A strongly religious people, the Frozopians based all their ancient beliefs and customs upon these mountains, and today the most important custom of them all would come to pass. Prince Richard was to be crowned king. The celebrations would not yet come to pass however. First he must scale the mighty chest of the giant, to stand directly above its heart, or at least to the point the druids proclaimed to be the giants heart.

Richard hated druids. He had always held disdain for them, but now they were really beginning to piss him off. Prancing around with their irriatating chants and wild laughter, he was unsurprised to find his hand resting heavily on his blade, hung in its leather container at his side. His anger was not helped by the biting winds, nor the steep path he followed. Quickening his pace, the bodyguards of the prince had to jog a little to catch up, beating aside a couple of druids who came too close.

Richard had lived a spoiled life, a life that was beyond the law and beyond morality. This did not make him a bad person: but it certainly didnt stop him spending his teenhood taking whatever the Frozopian country side and cities held: whether it be the finest horses or the finest women. And thus the discomfort of the walk should of been a nightmare for the spoilt young man, enough to crush him. In truth he should of taken the path of many of his ancestors, a path that lead to a spot which would probably be closer to the Giant's reproductive organs than its heart. But he was made of sterner stuff, and this decision had pleased many: The druids had taken it has a sign of religious man, easy to manipulate and someone who could be used to increase the Druids weakening grip on the country. His generals had taken it that finally he was ready to be a strong leader. At last the Druids called the procession to a halt at the top of the rise, revealing a breath taking sight of Frozopia, even glimpsing the green plains to the south. And at last the druids were silent. Standing back, they watched the prince pace confidently forward, holding his great weapon to the skies."I WILL RULE THIS LAND!"
He roared passionately, feeling new strength flow into his harm as he held the heavy blade untremblingly straightThe Druids burst into louder chant, the bodyguards cheering adding to the din. The reign of Richard had begun.

Frozopia factbook:

Name: The Kingdom of Frozopia

Leader: King Richard

Capital: Ragthoros

Population: 3 million

Climate and geography:
Frozen in the northern mountainous regions, the country eventually forms a mixture of rolling grasslands and forrests to the south, where at least 3/4 of the population live as well as the capital city Ragthoros. However the winters are savage all across the country. A large country, it borders Angermanland which is positioned due west.

Religion:
An odd mixture of the old gods, lead by Druids, and growing Roman Catholicism

History:
A harsh people, the Frozopians actually migrated further south from the northern end of the country and formed their first city Ragthoros at the top of the highest hill they could find, perhaps favouring the higher ground of their past. Slowly growing in culture and power, the country learnt to favour its unusual (and nameless) religion, as well as military strength and of course a simple monarchy. Over recent years Christianity has spread among the common people, at first stamped upon by the Druids before King Richard's own (older) sister became one, offering protection for all who followed the true faith of Jesus Christ.

Military:
The Frozopian military is incredibly well disciplined and skilled, which considering their culture is no surprise. It is a great honor to serve in the armies of the king, and greath wealth is earned by those who are successful during war time. During peace time the force is 15,000 elite professionals and 35,000 mountain men of which half serve various nobles within the country but all of whom are sworn to serve the king if he calls. Of the professionals:

5000 Swordsmen, equipped with heavy mail armour, using a huge 1 handed sword and a large shield they form the old shield wall, an effective formation suitable for any occasion if slightly lacking in mobility.

4000 Pikemen, again equipped with mail and pikes 17ft long. Often they combine formation with the swordsmen, making a compact wall benefitting from the shields used by the swordsmen (who are often unable to use their sword, instead supporting the pike with their other arm).

3500 Heavy cavalry, more lightly armed than the infantry but still mail wearers and spear/sword users, alongside their shield. (most carry both).

2500 Archers, using light leather and small round shields for protection, daggers as a last resort.

35,000 Mountainmen are a assorted bunch, ranging in ability and experience. The toughest are the swordsmen/axe men from the mountains, and thus this is where the name is derived.

Thats all for now folks!
