Dune Universe RP [Possibility and signup]

This idea has been awhile in coming. Being a Dune fanatic, I would love to do an rp set in the backdrop of the Dune universe, a universe where overt brute force takes a backseat to politics, backstabbing and subterfuge. Where feudal Dukes, Barons, Lords, and Emperors reign, and primitive hand-to-hand combat becomes the standard once more.

My idea for a time setting would be near the beginning of the first Dune book, or the ending of Dune: House Corrino. That basically means that Ix is under control of House Vernius again, Emperor Shaddam IV is disgraced because of his Great Spice War, and Duke Leto Atreides is the rising star of the Landsraad. House Harkonnen still narrowly controls the quasifief of Arrakis, soon to be replaced by House Atreides.

There are very few Major Houses that actually matter in the books - In the original six, the important houses are:

Atreides
Harkonnen
Corrino

That's not a whole lot. If you include the prequels, the list expands to be:

Atreides
Harkonnen
Corrino
Vernius
Richese
Moritani/Grumman (The prequels weren't specific about what this House was called, really)
Ecaz

Non-House important factions are:

Spacing Guild
Bene Gesserit
Bene Tlelax
Fremen of Dune

That's enough for my liking, really. If one wants to create their own House, Great or Minor, they can do so, within the restrictions of the Dune canon. The richest Great House is still Corrino, and the Sardaukar are better than any individual army, until the Fremen smack them down.

You don't have to abide by canon, after the RP gets going. Some restrictions being..

If you're Vernius or Richese, you can try to create replacements for Guild Navigators. Keep in mind that they are thinking machines and will likely get you smacked down by the Emperor or the Tlelaxu.
The spice reigns supreme. The artificial spice program failed miserably, resulting in the crash of a Guild Heighliner, after all, so Arrakis is the most important planet in the Imperium. If you're the Tlelaxu, you can try to research artificial spice again, but it'll require much more money than you have, seeing as 90% of the Tlelaxu Masters just died on Ix to the Atreides invasion.
The Spacing Guild may have contracts of neutrality with everyone, but they can be bribed. Keep that in mind, Spacing Guild, and everyone in general.
Everyone: War does not always solve your problems. Subterfuge, politics, backstabbings, quiet assassinations, stuff like that.
CHOAM is roleplayed by the Spacing Guild, because CHOAM is too insignificant to have as a whole other faction.

Sign up on this thread, with the House you want, and I'll add your name to the list. If we get enough people to start, I'll start making threads (Landsraad General Court, stuff like that)

Oh, and Spacing Guild and CHOAM are different entities. CHOAM wouldn't be playable, as all the houses would control shares in it.

Yeah, I know. No Endorse kept complaining to me about the lack of CHOAM as a playable faction, so I bundled them together with the Spacing Guild.

I'll take the Atreides.

This sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

I know someone who does a good job oplaying the fremen. I will contact him. If He isn't around, I will take them over, as they are eventually my allies.

and I will not use any OOC: knowledge about Harkona's plans. Nothing more than Leto knew.

I'd rather you not take them over from the start..but be warned, really, the Fremen don't really like outside influences. from the beginning of the book, most Fremen were distrustful of the Atreides, and most of them saw any subject of the Imperium as suspect.

Very good point. I was hoping to find Me Li still active, but he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Will look for other Fremen Rp'ers for now.

okay, none of those I know to be Rp'ing as Fremen are around anymore, so gonna suggest you RP till the aliance is formed.
