OOC: Greetings, I have decided to fix my population at 23 million... no lower, no higher. I do hope people dont mind.

IC: Five months ago...

The coup'd'tat in Belaivoc went off perfectly. Those military troops that did not join the coup simply stayed in their barracks, the democratically elected goverment of Belaivoc was quickly captured, imprisoned, and privately executed, soon the newly proclaimed President-For-Life, Karov Dragovic solidified his rule. For a further three months, civil and democractic rights in Belaivoc fell drasticlly and military spending surged. Chemical weapons and their manufacturing components were acquired via the Black Market. As were the Scuds to deliver them.

Also secretly acquired were the components to enrich uranium, as Dragovic had deemed a plutonium based bomb far too risky given that it needed an entire nuclear reactor to get the plutonium. The scientists had already drawn up a theoretical uranium based, gun-type bomb design, testing with computers confirmed it. There was one minor problem, there was not a single gram of Uranium in Belaivoc. Pruchasing more would be a severe problem, as Belaivoc had no nuclear reactors or any other industry requiring uranium, so they were stuck.

Until, that is, two months before today, Belaivocs neighbor, Belradiav, discovered a rich deposit of three materials, coal, iron, and-obviously-Uranium. To further compound the situation, Belradiav was ethnically Nerivochik, the ethnic enemies of Belaivocs ethnic majority, the Koradivins... of which Dragovic was one.

It didnt take a genius with this information to see where the whole thing was going. For two months, the Belaivocian Military, which was much bigger then the Belradiavan Military, quietly mobilized. The main offensive was to consist of four corps, two corps with a mechanized division and a armored division, the other two with just mechanized divisions. Given that each Belaivocian Ground Division consisted of 15,000 men(not including logistics), the total number of men deployed was 120,000... in the offensive arm alone. Following as garrison units would be four infantry divisions and two anti-aircraft brigades. The plan, however, never took into account outside interference.

OOC2: Please do not post yet, more to come.

OOC: CURSE YOU JOLT! :shakes fist angrily: I was supposed to post as this profile! Anyways, before anymore questions are asked, yes, Belrad is a NPC Nation. It will be roleplayed by me.

IC: October 23rd, 1:29 AM, Belrad/Belaivoc Border

The border gaurds who were not asleep were drunk out of their mind on Vodka, they didnt know that a large number, as in 600, Belaivocian T-80U Main Battle Tanks sat just 30 kilometers away, had they found out now, it would be too late.

On the other side of the border, about 40 kilometers actually, the general leading the attack looked over his assortment of BM-21 MLRs and 2S19 Mobile Artillery Pieces, all deployed and pointed towards the border. He raised the phone to his ear and said, "Fire..."

The poor border gaurds died without knowing what was going on. Some were awoken by the firing of the guns, others just turned over in their sleep, those few who were awake just stared at the flashing lights... and then were blown to pieces, their posts obliterated by a massive barrage of shells and rockets.

2 days later, it had come as such a surprise to Belrad that they didnt have time to defend themselves, those few centers of resistance that did pop up were quickly crushed by the onslaught of mechanized forces. It would be another day before the country was fully occupied, but by now it was obvious who would win. What people didnt know was that once the Uranium mines and their storage warehouses were captured, special, secret battalions quickly carted the contents away under the cover of darkness towards the border.

It happened so fast that the international community didnt really have time to react. But now that the nation was occupied, the counties that bordered Belrad and Belaivocan were nervous and angry at the same time. Calls were being sent out by these nations for intervention... and these nations were mobilizing themselves.

OOC2: Go ahead and post now.

OOC: Smells like... a Desert Storm. : D

Just a tag for now, even if it's just for reading this thread as it unfolds, in case you don't wish to have me involved.

IC:

President Moltke sat in his office looking over his usual assortment of reports from his many departments when an aide entered the room with a slight knock before approaching his desk, "Sir, this just came in from the Orbital Survaillance Centre in Arrio," He said as he handed off a folder with digital photographs printed off on gloss paper.

The president looked over them while reading the attached report, he spoke to himself as he read, "Belaivoc coup... consolidation of power, Uranium enrichment, shortage... Belrad discovery, 01:29 local, movements over border," He finished reading and turned to the aide, "Summon the Joint Chiefs."

Within thirty minutes, the military leaders of the Republic had been mustered into the war room at the Ebon Tor as President Moltke wheeled his own chair to the table, "What are our options, people?"

General Krist Von Mann leaned forward, "Mister President, you can't expect us to be ready to deploy forces to the troubled nation, with the fighting around Olympus becoming worse and the internal security measures, not to mention our commitments in our allies of TWSP, New Ausha and Cravan, any force we could send would have to be scratched together from a number of other units."

"We wouldn't be much of an example of protecting national sovereignty if we left a helpless nation to be occupied by a ruthless dictator," Started Moltke, "Assemble what you can and contact the neighbouring nations to see where we can airlift our forces to eject this Belaivoc aggression."

IC

"We have a situation on our hands. The nation of Belaivoc has been developing uranium based nuclear weapons, and they have just poured across into their neighbor Belaivoc. Intel is still coming in, but from what we can tell, Belrad has significant reserves of Uranium. From what we can tell, the Belaivoc forces will have secured the country within a matter of hours. From the satelite intelligence we have, estimates indicate that the infrastructure and economy of Belaivoc will be able to rebuld the necessary infrastructure of Belrad, and within two weeks, and judging by their current capacity, they should be mass producing weapons grade within the year." General Ambrose Park, the head of the Siapian Intelligence Network, faced The Council of Ten.

"This does warrant our attention, but most of our regulars are in the colonies, as is your most qualified Specialist, and your most competent spec-ops group. What do you propose?"

"If it may please the Council, I have a solution. It won't be clean, but it is the only safe way I can think to deny access to the Uranium stockpiles. We take pre-existing W54 warheads, coat them in Cobalt 59 foil, and..."

"Salted nuclear warheads?"

"Yes. We use our team to infiltrate with these low yield warheads, and contaminate all of the major uranium deposits. The gamma radiation will deny access for at least fifteen years."

"This is a grave and expensive solution, commander. We will need to consider it."

OOC: Do you have any OOC issues with me silently contaminating all of the known uranium mines?

OOC:Aquatio: You were actually sort of what I had in mind when I started this, although it was really inspired by the Balkan Campaign in the game Joint Task Force(as a matter of fact, Dragovic is the name of a general in the Balkan Campaign that you fight).

Siap: Dont really have a problem with it, mainly because there was already mined uranium that is already back in Belaivoc. Not much, just enough to develop 2-3 warheads at optimum(more realisticly, 1-2), and actually building the warheads will take time.

IC: The nation bordering both Belrad and Belaivoc, Nitsvostok, was the loudest protestor over the whole invasion issue. Not only did Nitsvostok also consist of mostly Nerivichiks, but some of the coal and iron deposits that Belrad had found crossed into Nitsvostok. This made them extremely nervous about another invasion... this time aimed at them. They did not know that Dragovic had no intention of moving against them, but they complained, condemned, and even declared they would allow foreign troops on their soil to both protect them and liberate Belrad.

Although obsolete by most standards, the Belaivocian Army still was a formidable force, on paper at least. The regular forces were moderately trained, moderate morale as-of-now, and the standard soldier was armed with Ak-74 Assualt Rifles, with a disposable RPG-29 rocket launcher issued like hand grenades, although not in as much quantity of course. The primary Main Battle Tank was the T-80U, with the BTR-80 Acting as the armies primary Armored Personnel Carrier. The elite units, known as 'The Gaurd', had somewhat more modern equipment, namely T-90 Main Battle Tanks and BTR-90 Armored Personnel Carriers. The airforces standard Fighter was Su-27s. The Navy was negligable, consisting of nothing more then a few PT Boats and a Corvette.

encrypted message to government of Nitsvostok:

The Community has decided, unofficially to intervene in the matter of this invasion. While we cannot send an actual army at this time, we are sending a special forces team to neutralize the risk of Belaivoc obtaining nuclear weapons. If you could allow us to use your airfields and provide us with the location of all known uranium deposits, and all known active mining sites, it would make the world a safer place.

"We do not know all of the deposits, but we can name the three largest ones. They are all close to Belrads Eastern border with us, closest one is barely 30 kilometers from the border, with the others 60 and 100 kilometers respectively. We can provide the airfields... just try not to make it to obvious, our armed forces cannot withstand an invasion of Belaivoc. We wish you luck."

Our men will be arriving in unmarked cargo planes. They will bear a transponder code which we will send to you when they approach your border. If anything goes wrong, the Captain of our forces, along with all of his men, will surrender himself to your police or military. We will then create a temporary extradition treaty, you will hand the Captain and his men to us, we will arrest him, he will sign a statement indicting himself as a defector/ international terrorist, and he and all of his men will face punishments ranging from twenty years of hard labor to death by firing squad.

Captain Tyler Kent of the Siapian Intelligence Network Operations Detatchment Beta was going through the equipment set before him. "Awright, we got six Davy Crockets, and six rising suns, our rifles, a general idea of the main deposits, and all the rest. I'm still not content with the intel we have, so boys, this first mission will be a little bit o' border jumpin'. Our first order of business is to get the engineers to construct a tunnel under the border, so we can move our men around, and then we need to find some local support, and then we need to pinch some of the occupiers, see if we can get some intel out of them."

OOC: OOC thread would be cool... The shear detail of my ORBAT isn't conducive to IC postings. Just to give an idea, the 3 naval groups have 8 Ravager heavy dreadnaughts and a single glorious class BBN (i.e. a smaller version of Quester's Renown)... perfect!

Capital Buidling, Mer de Noms, Mer des Ennuis
Minister of Commerce Maciej Yidzasch sat at a long, mahogany table. He had just put down his glass of water, and addressed the man who sat across the table from him, a high-ranking Commerce Department Officer from Belrad. Yidzasch was growing weary.
“Listen, I understand you have a lot of offers on the table, and that it won’t be cheap for you to construct the facilities necessary to extract the quantity we demand from even a small time supplier, but this is the best we can offer you! Global Tetrahedron even agreed to invest in your infrastructure! I’m not feeding you bull here either, I met with them not an hour ago!”
An army lieutenant entered the room, and handed a small folded piece of paper before turning and leaving. The message was simple: “Belrad has been invaded by Belaivoc, the country has fallen.” Keeping a cool face, he said to his guest “Excuse me, there has been a change in circumstances.” He stood up, shook the man’s hand, and left, headed for the office of the Arch Arsonist. After a 15 minute wait, he was permitted entry by the leggy blonde secretary. The Arch Arsonist, a man of medium stature with a muscular build named Carpathia Ziemowit, was finishing a level of the popular game “Hitman.” The two exchanged handshakes.
“Welcome Yidzasch, what can I do for you?”
“Sir, we have potential business dealings with a small nation named Belrad. They have recently discovered large caches of strategic materials, namely uranium. I was conducting preliminary negotiations with them, but they were invaded today by a small, hostile nation named Belaivoc.”
“What do you suggest then?”
“If I may be blunt, I suggest that we force the Belaivocian military out of the region, and seize the deposits ourselves.”
“That is pretty radical. The senate might approve, but I don’t think they’ll raise too much of an uproar if we do commence military actions. I’ll meet with some of my other advisors later, and we will come up with a plan of action. You’ll know what I decide later tonight.”
“Thank you, Sir.”

The minister left the Arch Arsonist’s office. Carpathia waited until the door was closed, before he picked up a direct line to Mer des Ennuis High Command.
“Yes, sir?”
“Get me General Wojtek. I want information on this Belrad situation”
“Yes sir.”

15 minutes later, General of the Armies of Mer des Ennuis Kaspyr Wojtek was walking briskly through the hallways. He waited another 10 minutes in the anteroom of the Office of the Arch Arsonist, before the secretary let him in. The two men exchanged salutes, and both men sat down.
“Hello Kaspyr, how is the family?”
“Good sir. Now, what can I do for you?”
“I want information on this whole Belrad situation.”
“Well sir, as you can tell by the size of these dossiers, we don’t have too much information on them. Historically, they, like other small nations, have been given to new members of the various intelligence departments, but that is obviously being changed. From what we gather, they have between 100,000 and 125,000 infantrymen.”
“Ha! What kind of arms do they have?”
The general flipped through a few pages.
“Looks like t-80s, a few t-90s, and some old artillery pieces. Classic former bloc nation; they have 74’s and RPG-29s, nothing we couldn’t trounce.”
“Ok, so, General, I’m wanting to move on this real fast. If we wait too long, we could lose any hope of seizeing the mines. Who knows, we have a lot of options here; we could seize the country, or both of them, prop up a puppet government, who knows?”
“All right sir, I took the liberty of checking this. We can totally mobilize the 35th and 36th corps of the 18th Army; they were just mobilized for active duty and equipment checks. The 18th is a good outfit headed General Bogdan Iwo out of Porte de l’Est.” They are part of the new expansions, but have been in training for the past two years.”
“Do you think they are ready for battle?”
“Yes sir! I wouldn’t recommend them if they weren’t. Once they secure most of the countries, we can move in the 9th Army to help with security; we don’t want a strong insurgency to develop in any event. I checked with the navy; they have a pair of amphibious assault groups and a carrier battle group on maneuvers in the area. We can do a rapid heave-off in two days time and land forces in a week from now.”
“This is good news! Alert the men to make ready for deployment. Have the air guys prepare for decapitating strikes on Belaivocian facilities. Let the navy know they are going to have some fun. Ready the cruise and ballistic missile arsenals, and get space assets over them ASAP. I’ll notify the senate in an hour.”
“Aye sir!”
The two men stood, and exchanged salutes.

It has come to our attention that you have invaded the nation of Belrad. This conflicts greatly with interests we have in the area. You’ll have to excuse me for being blunt, but we are big on unilateral action. Leave Belrad. If you do not, I will order the combined might of Mer des Ennuis to show you the door with as much force as possible. You have one week.

Dragovic turned angrily to his foreign minister.

"You told me other nations would not care if we invaded Belrad!" He shouted.

"... I did not know this would happen, Mr. President! Please, do we not have the military capability to take care of Nitsvostok?" The foreign minister begged.

Dragovic rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "We probably do, Marshal?" Dragovic said, turning to his Chief of Staff, Marshal Nurisov Kepinski.

"We can indeed take care of Nitsvostok, they primarily have older American equipment, M60A1s, LAWs, Redeyes, and the like. Plus they are numerically inferior." The Marshal said, "I suggest we move the four corps down to the Belrad-Nitsvostok Border in preperation for an invasion. Plus, we can send one of our two Gaurd Divisions into Belrad."

Dragovic nodded, "Very well. Do so now."

Gunnery Sergeant Chris "Hunter" Bishop was different than any of the other anti-tank gunners in the brigade's anti-tank companies. While most of the E-7s were suited to sit in one of the command Ferret humvees, he took the place in one of the gunners in a vehicle armed with the new BGM-225 Goblin anti-tank missile launchers and allowed the Marine to ride shotgun in the vehicle. He had the highest hit-and-kill numbers of all the gunners in the battalion's company and Captain James Younge could not object to the requests of a gunny. The brigade's vehicles were being transported out to the waiting assault ships in the smaller landing craft while the Marines themselves were being flown out on the large CH-47Z Super Chinook helicopters and CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. Once the troops were aboard along with their vehicles and equipment, the ships would be sent along with the carrier group.

We have become aware of your military's current state and wish to help in requipping your force with interim upgrades to your current stockpiles of weapons.

The most prominant upgrades would include the replacement of the ammunition for your M60A1 tanks' 105mm M68 guns with improved anti-tank munitions, such as the depleted Uranium M774 Armour-Peircing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Tracer (APFSDS-T) 105mm shell or (time permitting) the replacement of the 105mm M68 guns with the improved 120mm M256 smoothbore gun.

Another upgrade will be lend-lease FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS launchers and missiles to replace your FIM-43 Redeye systems and the procurement of M136 AT-4 84mm anti-tank rocket launchers to suppliment your M72 66mm LAW.

We will also provide add-on armour kits for your tanks and APCs, including the Aequatian-designed Helmet III explosive reactive armour system.

By now, the deployment of those four corps were becoming obvious, they were beginning to take positions for a new offensive, most likely into Nitsvostok. However, their logistics model was based on the 1960s Soviet-Era, meaning one thing, they would have to wait before launching an attack... wait too long as a matter of fact.

While the Navy's carrierborne aircraft would provide more than enough air power for the initial brigade, the build-up of enemy forces along the border prompted the Aequatian command to deploy additional aircraft units to the nation of Nitsvostok, to provide support to the nation's own forces should the enemy mobilize before the arrival of the Marines.

An Aequatian Republic Air Force fighter wing was deployed, the unit's F-1C Banshee and F-2A Abbadon tactical fighters would serve well in ground strike roles and air combat patrols respectively while the EF-2B Baal electronic countermeasures aircraft would engage enemy air defence and support other strike missions. There would be an additional close air support squadron with twenty BA-74 Arrow interdiction bombers, which had proven their worth in the campaign against Griffincrest mercenary forces, attached to the wing as well. The aircraft were deployed immediately, followed closely with their support units.
