OOC: Yes, I know this is a crazy, stupid, impractical idea that will crash my economy. Read the title. The president's a loony.
IC: President Dent has announced a commission for a new cannon which he calls Earthstormer. It will be capable of launching a ten meter shell out of the earth's atmosphere. President Dent was quoted as saying "This is what I like to call a preemptive lesson to stay out of our business!"
Work on the cannon has commenced in an unrevealed location.
In order to raise the necessary funds, the president has raised taxes for the rich and middle class, and septupled them for the poor.

OOC: Uhm, Hataria, cannons have fired shells into space many, many times, for many, many years. You even indirectly referenced some of the people responsible for a lot of that by talking about Iraq's super-guns. Not heard of the High Altitude Research Project, then?
Dra-pol orbits small satellites with a cannon called Dragon's Throat, and has anti-satellite munitions as well.
Still, that doesn't change the fact that a ten-metre bore (I assume that was the implication?) isn't going to work, as the original poster appears to be aware :)
